So, Now You Know

... Why I wasn't around yesterday.  Christine was early-ish, and with an hour's drive there, then lots of wandering, it was a long, but lovely day.  So it was a good reason to not pop into LJ!

I had aimed to be here yesterday as I wanted to wish you a Happy World Giraffe Day
giraffe eating GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Today I have been into Exeter as I needed to pick up a couple of things for Tim's birthday ... I am going there on Monday so we can celebrate our birthdays.  We always manage to meet up, usually on my birthday as by the time it's Tim's 6 days later they are on holiday.  They go to the same flat in Cornwall, that they have been going to for 12 - 14 years.  It's lovely there, I know, but I prefer to go to different locations if I can.  After all, there's a lot of the world to explore.

Now, as ever, I won't be around tomorrow being Sunday, so ...

21. Can you do the 'downward dog' pose on International Yoga Day?
I can (I think) as I used to occasionally do it when I was at gym classes, but wouldn't want to do it as it always pulled on my back injury.

22. International Being You Day - a day to celebrate our differences, and our unique qualities. Do you have a unique quality you'd like to celebrate today?
I don't know, I think I am slightly mad, anyway. However I do quite like who I am, most of the time, anyway.

23. Board games - yay or nay? What's your favourite, or the one that fills you with horror at the memory of playing?
yay ... although not really a fan of Monopoly or Cleudo ... but do enjoy others.

Right, let's get this done and posted.

I will see you Monday x

This morning I walked into Exeter early and met up with Tim ... we then went to another solicitors ... so I could "swear" .... Now, Mum & Dad brought us up not to swear, so they won't be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it was to get the deed of Grandma & Granddad's grave transferred into Aunti Joyce's name. So I had to sign, and swear, that I am the next legal next-of-kin, and that our half of the family do not want to claim the empty part of the plot, and that Auntie Joyce was the person who had planned to be resting there.

So, maybe after all, Mum & Dad will accept my need to swear this morning!

On my way home I went via the shops for milk and some salad bits, now I am trying to do a few icons before heading off to work in a short while ... so ...

22 – Mathematics Day: Were you good at mathematics in school? How much of the math/s you learned in school do you use in your everyday life now?
Maths was my favourite subject at school, and an additional A Level that I di, even though I didn’t need it for the university course I was aiming for. But there again, Nick was a maths teacher, and Dad taught statistics within his Engineering/Management courses … so it must be in the family.

See you tomorrow x

Yes, I tend to be against phones so much. But, yes, I have one ... but what get's me are people who live by the phones. Anyway, the point of my moan is that I had a text from Tim last night. They are on holiday, and yes sent me a photo of Claire on a walk, but this was a request for me to go and collect a delivery for him. He has done some shopping, and had it delivered to a shop half way between our two houses. So ... I am off to go and collect it for him.

Honestly, when you are on holiday, beon holiday ... not still shopping etc.

Oh well, rant over!

But to do that, I must get on as I am working this afternoon ... so ...

12 – Simplicity Day: What steps could you take to declutter your life, both mentally and physically, and keep things simple?
Actually I think my life is fairly simple anyway ... the only clutter I have are things like books, ornaments, pictures etc. Other than that life is fairly low-key

Right, I'm off to the shop!

Oh Brother!

As many of you know I used to be an osteopath, and gave up my profession 13 years ago ... wow, hadn't realised it was that long ago until I worked it out to type this!  Anyway, I got back from clinic this morning to find a text from Tim asking if I could give him some treatment if he walked home via my place as he is doing a load of DIY and has hurt his back.  So much for an afternoon making icons which had been the plan ... I will make a few, but I have got to clean my lounge.  I had been planning to do that this coming weekend, but then with Tim coming over, I need to get ahead of my plans.  They have a very minimalistic place, so little to dust etc ... I am the opposite!

Still clinic was good - all 6 turned up, and although 2 of them were real add-balls it went smoothly.  I suppose it helped because we were the only clinic running in the urology team.

The other annoying thing about my brother is that I had a sports massage yesterday, so wanted the lazy afternoon to give the shoulders a real chance to settle.  I didn't get too much work done on the leg, but new exercises were given.  So positives all round.

Right, cleaning calls ... but before I head downstairs again -

6 – Chopsticks Day: Can you eat with chopsticks? If yes, how often do you use them?

Yes - in fact I was taught by someone who is Chinese. In fact, even if I get a take-away I still use chopsticks to eat a Chinese meal.

Right, I will try and catch up later, but possibly will end up having a lazy evening.

Hope all is well with you all x

Happy ANZAC day

holidays-1-1024x398

They shall grow not old, like we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.

So, today is ANZAC Day ... and yes I have just finished eating an ANZAC biscuit that I made yesterday.   I always take some in for work on this day ... but they are just so yummy anyway!  I didn't get up for a sunrise memorial as ANZACs do ... but still I ended up telling a couple of new members of staff why the day is special.  So that was good..
istockphoto-939484090-612x612

So, as I said I made the biscuits when I got in from Church yesterday, and text a picture to Tim & Claire who invited me over for a drink, and a biscuit.  So, in the afternoon I went over and had a really lovely afternonn ... eand ended up staying for tea.  Over all the weather brightened up nicely and we even ate outside.  So a truly lovely afternoon ...

IMG-20220424-WA0004

I won't tell you how much gin we drank ... but it was a good afternoon!  Actually I think part of the reason it was fun was that it was impromptu ... just lovely.

Work today was OK - last week working with Maya, and still wondering how she will actually cope.  But that's not my problem ... I have tried hard to get her to understand, and learn .. but ... !!

Now I have shopping to doand then plan a lazy rest of the day.  But, before I go -

25. If you were given the ability to reform how your country’s leaders were chosen and how they serve, what would you change?
I don't think I would change it.
One thing I would prefer would be that local councils etc were run by independant people, and not those of party politics.

Well must head off ... hope to catch up with you later

Icons etc

Wednesday, April 6th, 2022 02:53 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
This set of icons is made for round 8 of [livejournal.com profile] gen10in30 and the theme is Spring. I still used screen caps, from Star Trek Voyager and from Stargate Atlantis ... enjoy

1 2 3 4 5
1(22) 2 3(20) 4(17) 5(10)
6 7 8 9 10
6(5) 9(11) 8 7(7) 10(8)

As ever, all are snaggable, but credit would be appreciated. The credits are available over at my icon journal - [livejournal.com profile] d4s_icons

So, finishing those off, as well as the night before catching up with me meant I never did catch up with you all in the end yesterday ... I will try to do better later!!

Clinic was another good morning, although we ended up with 2 no-shows.  Maya still isn't learning and have tried to keep my patience with her, but it does get frustrating.  I am in for the next couple of mornings as well, but she is in another clinic, so it will be less stressful even if the patients themselves cause problems!

I don't think I told you that Tim tested positive over the weekend, and apparently yesterday ended up seeing a paramedic.  He is still at home and is having treatment that means that this morning he is feeling a little bit better.  I liked getting that positive text, but I then received a text from Brenda that her routine screening tested positive this morning ... so the family is falling apart.  Hopefully neither will be ill long, and won't pass on the bugs to other members of their families ... we were planning to all be together on Easter Day, so we shall now wait and see about that.

Now I have shopping to do so will head out, but before that -

6. What songs do you know only the chorus to?
Bizarrely I often find myself humming "Daisy, Daisy" ... what most people don't realise is that it is a chorus of a song, and no, I don't know those words.

See you later (I hope)

Still No Photos

I took a few last frieday and didn't get them sorted, so that is a task for soon ... and then posting, hopefully soon!

Hope you all had a good weekend - I had a nice lazy afternoon yesterday, although I also had a text fromTim to say he has tested positive for Covid ... mind you I then got a couple of texts in the afternoon of one happy boy ... his football team scored 5 goals..  Hopefully he will be sensible and sleep/rest ... not go back to work to soon (yes, he is very busy)

Work today was good (well I got home a bit early)  Mind you, one of the pateients we were unable to see, as he was 14 and had come by himself ... yes, a very "sensible" guy ... but the law is the law, and rules are rules.  He was fune, and I heard him phoning his mum who seemed upset (she was at home, so no reason she couldn't have been there!)

I am out this evening for a complete change ... an 80th birthday meal, so that will be nice (no washing up!!), although I do prefer to eat my heavier meal during the day.  However when I am on holiday I eat my main meal in an evening ... just habits, I suppose.

Well ... before I go and sort more photos -

4. Do you have any pets? What are their names? Now, what are the names you actually use for them?
Well you all know that I said Goodbye to Jiffy about 18 months ago ... yes, his name was Jiffy, although I often called him "Little Man", Dad used to call him "Bobbin" and Mum called him "Jiff-Odle"

Well that's me up to date - won't be able to catch up with you today ... a job for tomorrow x

It's All Tim's Fault

debris4spike: (Default)
OOOps - I didn't get caught up with you all yesterday ... I will try and do better today.  Actually I blame Tim!  Some months ago he challenged me to Scrabble on-line ... I now play against about 10 people on a regular basis, and with most of them I do pretty well.  If I lose it's not a suprise, but my win rate is higher, so that makes me happy.  However Tim is another matter ... he usually thrashes me.  He works as a lawyer, reads factual history books, and had played scrabble since being a teenager (he used to play against Dad) ... so I am not shocked I fail  However yesterday I managed to get a bonus for using all my letters (and hitting a double word score, as well).  So I ended up close ... he still won, though, but he had more of a fight this time.!!

Well, I did say yesterday I was going to do some icons and here are 4 I made for challenge #142 -- from [livejournal.com profile] your_favourites, with the theme of "Artificial Intelligence" ... and this has to be The Doctor from star Trek Voyager

1(21)       2(21)       3(19)     4(16)

I have some more to do, but that's for another day.

Later today I am off for a snack-lunch and an afternoon's talk from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission ... apparently there are a couple of people coming down from HQ ... so that hopefully will be interesting.

But before I head off to do some housework (see I can be a good girl) ...

31. Would you rather wake up every morning with $100 (or equivalent in your currency) in your pocket but not know where it came from, or wake up every morning with $50 (or equivalent in your currency) in your pocket and know where it came from?
£50 ... if I didn't know where it came from I knew it wasn't mine and so I wouldn't dare spend it.

Hope to catch up later xx
debris4spike: (Default)
And, had hoped to post a few photos as well .... but

  • The computer is on a go-slow for uploading the photos, so I shall smile sweetly, and hope to get to share the photos with you at some point!

  • Yesterday was not a good day, so after work, and a walk, I slept most of the afternoon

  • Yes, although not a football fan I did watch some of the England v. Germany match ... nice to be on  the winning sde!!

And now we are at today.

  • Today is my baby brother's birthday.  My memory of 54 years ago, is of being told off!!  My other brother & I spent time in the garden, and we went paddling in a large puddle.  Yes, I remembered to take both our shoes open, but forgot to remove the white socks Nick & I were wearing.  So, don't remember Tim arriving (he was born at home). just know I got told off.

  • For the 3rd day in a row we saw a boy who was aged under 10 (in fact yesterday we saw a 16 year old, as well)  All the boys were really nice, and makes life easier.

  • Other than our 3 year old patient we saw one other man, and the other 3 were no-shows!

  • I got home early, which was lovely ... and lucky as I had organised for a horologist to come at 1pm, or later ... he was 1/2 hour early.  So both my Mum's Grandfather's wall clocks are now off for repair.  Both are 1870's - 1880's, and Mum has had both since their wedding in 1952 ... so I inherited them a few years ago, as neither brother wanted them.

  • Had a great walk, and now am here to try and get some icons finished, as well as hope the photos upload.

But, as ever, before I do other things -

29. Did you go to your high school’s homecoming dance?
We didn't have one - but wouldn't have gone if we had

30. Who taught you how to drive?
Mum took me out for my first drive.  After that I had 2 instructors - Collin & Bob

Well that's me back up to date - hopefully I will try to catch up with you all this evening.

Bank Holiday Monday

I have just had a lovely 5 mile walk with Christine - again around the Newton Abbot area.  Amazing how much colder it was today than, Friday.  We even had a few spots of rain while we sat and ate our pasties.  Again. lovely areas to walk, and we saw Puritan's Pit, which was founded at the restoration of King Charles II in a collapsed limestone cavern - as you can see it is very overgrown, although Christine can remember it being used for a special service back in the 1980's

Yesterday we had a good service at Church - and I had a lovely roast lamb meal at my brothers ... yummy
Easter_Sunday_2021_(1)

I also have tomorrow off work (no clinic running), so have no excuse not to do housework :(  But when I have finished this I am going to do some of my jigsaw puzzle.  So, overall, I will have had a really nice Easter weekend ... and all without breaking any of the lockdown rules.

However, as ever, before I go -

5. What was your first pet?

The first dog was called Scrappy.  She died when I was 6 but sadly I have absolutely no memory of her.  I think I was probably very upset so hid her in my inner memories.

Our next Spaniel was my shadow when I was in my early 20's.  His name was Perry and sadly died in my arms of a heart attack when he was a month short of his 5th birthday.
debris4spike: (Default)
Tim's treatment went well, and he is OK today - so that was good news. He bought me a huge tub of Jelly Beans as thanks ... so that was really nice of him, and they are slowly disappearing!

I had a good morning - walking to the shops, and then once home doing some baking, so that was good. Now I have made a couple of icons, I'm going to post this then "switch off" for the rest of the weekend.

Before I do, though -

6. As a child, who was your favourite relative and why?

No favourite - it really depends on what the day was bringing. I loved one of my Granddad's when I was young as we always had a walk to the local cemetery when he was visiting. I got on really well with my brothers - Nick was great to talk to, and Tim was great to get into trouble with!. So, no overall favourite

7. What have you always been curious about?
Why some people don't have "the sense they were born with!"

Well you had Welsh at the beginning of the week and now we have another British-Celtic language ... Happy St Piran's Day

Having lived in Cornwall for 25 years I really couldn't ignore this wish to you all.

However today being Friday I have just had a walk round locally, not a long way, but I have to be out soon to collect my brother Tim from hospital ... he is having surgery on some fatty tissue that has developed in his leg, and with Claire not driving, I was "volunteered". However I took my camera for PhotoFriday, and thought I would show you some more Spring colour ... and just a few photos of my corner of this city I live in -

And quickly, before I head out here are the latest 2 questions (didn't turn on the pc yesterday)

4. What is something you want to learn how to do?

I would love to learn to play Bridge

5. How did you wear your hair as a child?

Points to icon ... the blond grew to ringlets until I was about 5 (think Shirley Temple), since then it turned brown and the style has not changed since.
debris4spike: (Default)
As you all know I love taking photographs - well it has been a 53 year hobby!  Yes, I got my first camera for my 6th birthday, and this is (probably) my 1st photo, with help from Dad ... thus a good photo!

My brother was a belated birthday pressie ... 6 days late!

So, happy birthday Tim - have a super day

Only Me!!

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 01:17 pm
debris4spike: (James - my name)
Off work again this week. Saw another GP (as mine is on holiday). This doc is actually a good friend of my brother, although I find him hard to get on with! However he is a good doc, and gave me a diagnosis of continued virus affecting my asthma - with an overall diagnosis over the last 2 months of "Unfortunate-itis" !! He has sent me for a routine chest x-ray, so I was able to speak to my department in person (and apologise, because even though I know I shouldn't, I still feel guilty).

Anyway, I am still being a good girl and resting loads. I have sorted some of my London photos, so will post them soon-ish, but while you are waiting for them, thought you might like to see this video. I heard about it on the radio this morning. I have never been able to solve a Rubik's cube, although my brother Nick could ... however, not quite like this -

So, get practising, folks.
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
As all of you probably know by now we had a terrorist related incident in London, and as ever random people walking through the city are injured or have lost their lives.  It seems small compared with other atrocities, but no doubt is meant to scare people away from the city.

No way - terrorists are not going to run my life ... or my country!

Anyway, enough of politics (etc) not something I usually even mention on LJ.

##########

I keep saying I am back and then disappear!  Last time I picked up a tummy bug (I think the kid who sat in front of me at Church the previous day was ill), and sadly my Chronic Fatigue set back in ... so I somehow lost a week.  I managed to work for 2 days, but that was all.

So, I need to focus, and get back on track.  There is no way I can skim back through your news, and I must yet again apologise that I have been a bad friend (I should get that sentence in the pc memory and that way just fill that line in each time! ).

So what I need to do is do a catch-up post incase any of you remember who I am, and want to know where I am and what I am doing! It's all about me - )

I do hope that you are all well ... any news, please let me know.
*group hugs*
debris4spike: (Dad)
I have this week off, and although there is lots I should be doing, I am going to take the advice of an amazing friend and rest more than work. In some ways it feels so wrong, but then I think of yesterday morning when I didn't wake up till gone 10am. For the first time in 3 years I haven't been tuned into my phone, and for the first time ever I haven't got to account for my time to Mum & Dad. It seems wrong on all sorts of levels.

I also hate the fact I still can't cry. Mum & Dad have been my friends, parents, role models etc, and yet I still can't cry for the absence I now have of them in my life. It feels so bad, and yet I know that when the time is right it will hit me ... I suppose seeing my teenage nephews in tears round Dad's grave on Friday made me feel that there was something wrong with me.

I am hoping to get someone to look at my fence today (waiting for a phone call), I had asked Tim some time ago, but he is "busy". In fact they are away on holiday this week, so hope the weather is good.

Sadly Nick is probably going to lose his job.  He has major health issues, including severe depression, and an ahour each ways drive is not helping.  He loves the job, but not the drive.  He admitted that he could have minimised his symptoms but realised that wouldn't have helped him.  So maybe he is learning to open up a bit.  For the 3 weeks Dad was dying he came every morning for an hour.  He and I did chat, mostly about "nothing", but it was good to be able to spend time with him.

Well, I am going to get sorted out for something to eat ... I am sure Jiffy will be happy to see me type that.

I will catch up with comments now - theye really helped.  Can't guarantee it will be today, but will be in the next few days.  I shall also start to get back to LJ properly, soon.  I have missed you - hope I haven't missed anything exciting in my absense.
