debris4spike: (Default)
We have just had Church on-line ... a lovely start to the New Year, thinking about guidance and the future. So, while I am witing for the oven to heat up (I am making a Toad-in-the-Hole) I thought I would do the next question ... and as the answer states, I know the answer to this one (and, no, you can't get me to change my mind!! Too many years of being bullied while a teenager has taken over!!)

3. What could make other people angry about you?

People hate it when I can't see anything special about me, especially my looks.

So it was something that I know upset Mum, which I hated doing to her, but I still can't see what people mean. Oh well, in a general term I do know that I am special, but when it comes down to it, no, I can't see it! Sorry - and don't get angry with me!!

Hospital & Vet Visits

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020 07:39 pm
debris4spike: (Essex Girl)
Sadly I ended up in A&E yesterday ... and Jiffy didn't want to be left out so I had to take him to his vets today.

Yesterday morning I had quarter of an hour of severe flashing lights in my good eye. So knowing about my retinal op in '88, and the problems of strokes I decided I needed to get things checked out. So lucky I live near the hospital, and it means I didn't have too bad an afternoon. However I did confuse the nurse practioner I saw. She asked about headaches, well I have had one off & on for weeks with this flu bug! She wanted to test my eye sight against the good eye (which is my bad eye with only 50% vision), she wanted to check the retinas (with my "good" eye badly damaged already) and her final test was to check the optic nerve ... colourblindness tests (great, unless you are badly colourblind!!). Anyway, she was happy, but took the precaution of speaking to the consultant ... and overall the diagnosis was that of an Ocular Migraine.

So Jiffy didn't want to be left out. He spent last night rubbing his ear, and today scratching his side. So he is on steroids, antibiotics and ear drops.

So glad to see we were able to make use of medically trained ladies.

And -
3 What city or other location were you born in?

I was born in Essex - for those who know what I mean, I shall say "Yes, I am an Essex girl". For those who don't know, Essex girls have a "certain" reputation. It mostly comes because from Roman days there has been a barracks at Colchester (the county town) and is used for recruits ... so on their weekends off, they head to town ... and ... !!!!!!

On a side note, my grandmother was also an Essex girl. She actually "picked up" a soldier in Trafalgar Square. Yes, my grandfather was a member of the Coldstream Guards.
debris4spike: (James - Exam time)
Yes, I am posting .... and doing #1, as well

I had aimed to get to work for a couple of hours each day this week - but have developed a bad cold. So annoying, but I daren't risk pushing myself having got this far. So hopefully, a few more days and I will get

1 Let’s do some pseudo-science! What’s your Enneagram type?
https://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/test
Test 1 is more comprehensive, but long. Test 2 is pretty accurate and much quicker.

Test 1 =
Perfectionists, responsible, fixated on improvement
Ones are essentially looking to make things better, as they think nothing is ever quite good enough. This makes them perfectionists who want to reform and improve, who desire to make order out of the omnipresent chaos
Test 2=
Conflicted between trust and distrust
Sixes essentially feel insecure, as though there is nothing quite steady enough to hold onto. At the core of the type Six personality is a kind of fear or anxiety. Sixes don't trust easily; they are often ambivalent about others, until the person has absolutely proven herself, at which point they are likely to respond with steadfast loyalty.

Yes I am a perfectionist, but know I am very insecure ... so maybe the tests are correct, after all

And here's the rest )
debris4spike: (Kindle Readers (7 & the doctor))
20 What’s a childish thing you still do as an adult?
Jigsaws

21 You’re making yourself a fruit salad with five different fruits. Which five fruits will you include?
Pineappl, Orange, Apple, Melon, Strawberry (and Grape, if I cheat) .... I love fruit

22 Do you prefer being left alone on a long bus or train ride or would you rather chat with a random stranger next to you?
I always have a kindle (or book) with me, so don't really mind either way.
debris4spike: (James - thinky thoughts)
As I was trying to catch up on my LJ earlier today I saw a post by [livejournal.com profile] jusummerhayes who asked a set of questions, and I decided to answer them here, so I could think about a few of them.  eta - it's now tomorrow, and I am only just getting round to finishing and posting

When was the last time you said, I love you?
I tell my brothers and sisters-in-law that I love them when I see them.  However I think I tell Jiffy I love him most days ... I suppose as I see him getting older, I don't want him not to have heard the words.

When did you last enjoy 8 or more hours of uninterrupted sleep? How did you feel?
Yesterday I actually had 11 hours sleep ... for me it's not unusual that my chronic fatigue knocks me out

Why do we save so little?
There is so much of the world to visit ... and as I own both a house and a car, there always seems to be a bill to pay!

Is wisdom to be found in books?
Depends on the book!  Although sometimes wisdom can be found by "living", so some of the elderly seem to know more about life, than can be found in books.

Can we save the planet?
If we all do a bit then we can certainly improve things .... so many people don't even attempt the basics, so sadly a lot of the problems will never be sorted out.  I hate how some people don't even do basic recycling, yet if you live in Britain, the recycling is actually collected from your house ... why can't people even do that?

Is work worth the candle?
I love work, and have hated these weeks of convelescence.  But I know there are people out there who do their job just to pay the bills.  But I think whether you love it or hate it, it gives you purpose and discipline ... it builds your character.

Why do we have so many experts but see so little change?
I suppose because too many people think they are experts ... people with only a few thoughts, think that they are correct.  I see it in the health service in all my jobs ... as an osteopath (and therefore a specialist in that line), very few of my patients asked my advise ... and very few did what I said.  So, if that happens in a personal way, then it will happen to eveything, and everybody.

Is coffee better than chocolate?
No, and yes!
I love Cadbury's chocolate .... that is the winner.  However some of the other chocolate companies, then coffee would be the winner

Why is politics like a war zone with so little collaboration let alone love and kindness?
Too many egos ... maybe  if they were pad less, they would be more normal and think about the real people they are representing.

What do you really care about?
My faith
My family (especially little Jiffy)

Why is nature falling into decline when our lives depend on it?
We have ignored it's long-term care.  Land needs to lie fallow, animals need land and space to "live" ... we don't do either

If the 1960s was about love and peace, what will 2020-30 be remembered for?
Chaos
Isolation - no one cares much aboutothers ... in fact most people spend so much time staring at their phone screen they wouldn't know if the person next to them had just ddisappeared

If we could go anywhere in the known Universe, where would we go?
Anywhere

What's more important art or science?
Science

What does "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" mean to you?
Family and friends ... I have heard it many times at the graveside.
It comes from the Bible ... when God spoke to Adam & Eve after he sinned ... the words are (from the King James 1611  version) - In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

One last one: if you could be anyone or anything in the world what would you be?
Me - life is complicated enough being me, and so I can't confuse myself further!

And, as it's now tomorrow I have todays question from the meme -
19 Do you think anger is generally a positive emotion or a negative emotion? How does your thoughts on that help you deal with your anger?
Actually in some occasions anger is better than sulking, but in most cases anger is seen in situations where it escalates out of control ... and that is a definate time of learning to count to ten
debris4spike: (Rain)
... as I start this it seems I have a few negatives to report to catch people up to date.

Firstly, my fence has decided to go exploring ... well, that sounds better than saying it has been blown away into th neighbours garden!!  Lickily it won't have damaged their garden as they rent and it's just grass, however when I get to see the damage (it's still raining) I had honeysuckle starting to look good.  Oh well, it's the first storm damage I have had in over 35 years of house owning.

I woke up feeling well, so went to Church ... but after half an hour I wasn't feeling great, so headed out during the next hymn ... glad to be back at home.  However was pleased that the pastor saw me ... since I was last there our associate pastor has been made the pastor, and didn't want him to think that was the reason I hadn't been ... he had emailed me last week to see how I was, and I do wonder if he had thought that.  He is young, and a great guy ... but will admit I am not one for clapping as I sing hymns and modern songs, which is something he likes.  However when he preaches I can truly focus, which for me, is the main thing.

As I said, a few negatives - the final is that my boiler sounded like it was going to explode one day last week when I ran some hot water, but hasn't since ... so looks like I may have another bill ahead of me.

Not great as while I am not working, I am not earning, and as I am on a zero-hours contract, that means no money.  But as I have always been self emplyed that is something I have always had.  The advantage is that I can have time off when I want, so just frustrating on months like these.

Well that's me up to date - except for the meme ....

14 Who was the first person you had a crush on? Was it requited?
A boy in my class called Mark. He had the most gorgeous eyes (that even at 13 I noticed!!), and a mad sense of humour, and no - he didn't know I was alive

15 What’s your favorite piece in a box of chocolates?
I like caramels, and the strawberry ones ... but they have to be milk chocolate

16 Have you ever won a game of Monopoly?
Don't think so - but there again I am sure my brothers used to cheat!!
debris4spike: (Jiffy - painting)
So much for the meme keeping me going!

Actually I wandered into work yesterday morning to drop some paperwork off, and by the time I came back I was totally exhausted. Mentally I am doing pretty well, but my energy levels are still non-existant. I am still coughing, but that is slowly settling, but after 6 weeks I am getting so, so frustrated. One of my friends at work said that my neighbour (who is a friend of hers), had actually heard my coughing!!

Anywa, I am getting there, but is just so slow, but I am trying to be a good girl and not push myself.

Anyway, on a more positive note, Jiffy is enjoying lots of cuddles. He is really slowing up (which has made my life easier for walking him), but hard to see him, as he doesn't want to walk very far at all, most of the time. He asks to play most evening, but after about one minute he has had enough. So it;'s sad to see - but as he will be 14 in May (DV) it's to be expected.

One thing I forgot to add to my post on the 2nd was that it was a palindrome day (whether UK or USA) ... 02.02.2020 ... it will be a few years before we have the next!

And, so to catch up -

3 What’s your favorite salad dressing?
I love salt, pepper and malt vinegar!
Although salad cream, or mustard-vinegar is OK

4 Is your home tidy right this minute?
Never!  My spare room is always a dumping ground.  At least with my convelescence I have a perfect excuse for the rest of the house being in a muddle (but just ask any of the family, I am never, ever tidy!!)

50 Q&A's

Monday, January 13th, 2020 05:22 pm
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
I love doing these, as I learn a lot about myself, as well as about other friends who play along. however, do feel free to ignore my ramble Q&A that I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly

1. What is the color of your toothbrush.
Green

2. Name someone who made you smile today.
Jiffy

3. What were you doing at 8 am this morning?
Sleeping

And even more questions )
debris4spike: (James - Q&A 2011)
Wow, it's the last day of August, how did that happen?

I am all behind with things ... anyway, here is the meme finished. I won't be doing next months as I will be off-line for the first couple of days as I am going on holiday.

27 Would you rather have an amazingly fast typing speed or be able to read ridiculously fast?
Seeing as I now work in a office with someone who types fast that was a possibility, although I suppose I am slowly increasing spead, with practice.
However as I type this I am surrounded by books, both fiction and non, which I say I would love to read ... so, reading fast (providing I can take it in) is the winning vote.

28 What's your favourite phone app? Should I get it?
I only have a basic phone - no apps!

29 What’s the weirdest conversation you’ve overheard?
I work in a clinic situation, and sometimes as I am walking through the waiting roomI hear two people discussing their problem ... it's amazing how much human biology gets twisted around!
However I suppose the winner would have to be my grandma, who was a hypercondriac, and when dad told her that he was going to have an op on his prostate did inform him that she had better get an appt with her doc to get hers checked out (I would have loved to have heard that conversation!)

30 If you could have an all-expenses paid trip to see any famous world monument or natural feature, which monument or feature would you choose?
Does Venice count?
If not, then the Christ Redeemer Statue, in South America

31 Who is your favourite Claire?
Well I only know one, and that is my sister-in-law ... and most of the time she is a good friend.

It's All About Me!

However, I have been on the roof of the tower of Exeter Cathedral (but it has a wall around, so I could cope)

I will aim to do better ;)
debris4spike: (Yoda - Keep Calm)
I am still alive ... I know that I sort of disappeared, but it is a set of vague reasons, that I can't seem to think as to where these last couple of weeks have gone.

Hope I haven't missed much ... do feel free to link me if I missed something vital. I know I have missed a few birthdays, so sorry if that was you.

Bizarrely I am going away for all of next week, as well, so I am popping in to catch up, before going into hiding again. I am actually writing this at work as I am having a weird morning. We had a full clinic, but only 3 turned up. The first was a 6 year old, who has already completed all his tests and gone; while the other 2 are both "hard work". The physiologist had trouble getting a history from them, and they keep asking me the same questions. Everything else I need to do is up to date, so while I am waiting for the next test to begin I thought I would type this on my work's email, and send it to myself, and copy and paste.

So, let me catch you up with me ... under the cut, so you can skip if you want.

Here we go ... if you want to bother )

Aren't I a good girl ... 2 questions, in 2 days!

Day 2. What’s your middle name?

Jacqueline ... the female equivalent of James, which was Dad's middle name.

Saturday ...

Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 02:38 pm
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
... Yep great, as it means Chicken & Chips for tea tonight!!

Will admit I had a really lazy morning (especially as I had planned to go to the gym!!). I didn't set the alarm, and when I woke up I stayed in bed and read my book for some time.

Lovely,

Jiffy was equally happy as he had a busy afternoon yesterday. It was his 6 weekly haircut. He loves going to see Jackie, but this week one of his regular doggy friends who he sees there was in season. Even though he has had his op (!!), he still was alert, and apparently even weed on the side of the caging she was sleeping him!! Marking his property!!

Typical man!

Oh well ... I am slowly continuing with the boxes in my spare room as I promised myself, so that is making me happy. It will take ages, and I doubt it will be done by Easter as I set myself here, but at least I am continuing on. So that's the main thing.

Well I had better do day 3 of the meme that I am doing. (The full list is here) ...

Feb 3 - Have you done any art this year?

Yes! I have made one set of icons of Hercules; am half way through a set for [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo and started a set of icons of Jack O'Neill (from Stargate SG!)
debris4spike: (James - silhouette)
I am (as aver) sorry that I (again) disappeared. The flu that started at the beginning of this month is still with me. I have spent the last 2 - 3 weeks sleeping. Over the last couple of days I have been able to stay awake during the day, so progress is being made; however I am still sleep a minimum of 12 hours overnight. Jiffy is happy to have me around, and as he loves sleeping he is quite happy to snooze the days away. I feel guilty about the work missing me, and I have missed a few birthdays here ... so all in all I have had a fuzzy time!!

On another note it is weird to think that it was 2 years ago today that Mum died. Can't believe that it's been that long, but as Brenda pointed out when she text me this morning, Mum is still very much alive in our hearts and minds.

I am not around much, but had spotted this meme that [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee and [livejournal.com profile] hobbituk have been doing. I liked the look of it, but have recently started too many memes only to abandon them. However [livejournal.com profile] manoah has done the whole thing today so thought I would also give it a go .....

70 questions and answers, more or less. )
debris4spike: (Flashing lights with my name)
Wow home a couple of weeks already.  How did that happen?

I suppose the washing kept me busy!

I finished off my hand written journal, as I had got a bit behind and finished off the holiday blog, so there have been things that have kept me busy.  I have been back at work, but not as often as normal as the clinics are empty.  So that means I have been at home more, which makes my lack of LJing even worse.

And Jiffy has had to go to the vets a couple of times as he has got a nasty skin infection.  Tomorrow he goes for a haircut, so I hoping that will help things finally settle, as with 2 weeks of antibiotics and steroids don't seem to be helping much.

So no real news - but I have photos to share ... they will be up soon.

Group *hugs*

debris4spike: (USA)
I am back - and to say that the last month was amazing is such an understatement.  Brilliant, fantastic .... etc, etc.

I still am not up to date with my holiday blog, but am getting there.  For those who didn't follow it, but want to have a look, the first post is here .... it will save me having to import my photos. However, as I took over 3,500, if anyone wants to see more of anything, they only have to ask.

Hope you all had a good month - sorry I missed birthdays etc, but was staying off-line as much as I could so people who know me wouldn't realise my house was empty.

Did I miss any vital news, if so let me know ... otherwise, it will be a day or 2 before I am fully organised, then ... watch out!
debris4spike: (Christ is Risen)

Just got back from evening communion at Church, and this was our final hymn. A lovely reminder that today is Easter Sunday ... Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, Hallelujah. It was also one of the hymns that my drothers had at their baptism back in 1984 ... so another reminder for me!

And, this final hymn was the last hymn of our morning service ... people often ask how I have coped with these last 5 years, well, there is your answer.

Happy Easter

... since my big update of last week.  But thought I would at least type that as I have been missing so much over the last couple of years!

So nothing new on any of those points, although I have had a bit of a rough week with the chronic fatigue.  I fell asleep last Sunday evening and missed Church.  Then on Thursady I left work early, and fell asleep for the whole afternoon and missed Church music group.  However I have been a good girl and not got upset over it.  Today I am feeling quite a lot better, although got up late and am missing the gym.  Still I have made some spicy biscuits and aim to do some more knitting of my cardigan this afternoon, or evening.

One other thing is that I joined www.photocrowd.com which is free ... thought it might challenge me more on the photos.  Although if I am as bad with that as I am with [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger it won't help at all!

Oh well, as I said, no news ... so hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  You never know I may get some comments answered today!

What a difficult question? I am mostly an optimist, so often find the positive, or the bizarre in anything that happens.

i suppose one problem I often have, is the same as most women in the Western World ... getting a bra to fit well!
