Well back on Thursday I did do a walk locally - I am so lucky, as I was actually only out of the house for 45 mins, yet this is where I was walking.

2nd January (3)

2nd January (2)

2nd January (5)

I can't believe where January is already disappearing to! I know I hoped to get back to you at the end of last week, but my trip to help Claire for "a couple of hours" lasted all day - it was actually a nice time, and very productive from their point of view. And, she has promised to return the favour - I have a huge shed that is both a dumping ground, and a mess, so maybe I can grab her to help with that once the weather improves a bit.

Saturday I worked ... and it was a good shift.

Sunday didn't end up as I planned. The day I was having Tim & Claire for a meal a week ago, while baking, I burned one of my fingers with boiling jam. Yes, I stopped and ice for 15 mins ... and again a bit later. It blistered that night, and after the blister burst I have kept it covered. However when I woke up Sunday morning it felt swollen, hot and sore ... so off to the hospital I went. The doctor said it was actually healing fine ... so I decided that maybe Mum was correct that you are not unwell when you are actually feeling rough, but getting better!!!

However he was right as today the finger, although it has a fancy bandage on it for 24 hours, feels OK again.

I am actually going to work soon ... but before I head out -

3. The Danish/American comedian and pianist, Victor Borge was born on this day in 1909. Are you familiar with his comedy style?
Oh one of Dad's favourite comedians ... and, yes, I have a soft spot for his work

4. Dry January is a campaign where people choose to abstain from alcohol for the entire month of January (the campaign was started in 2013 by Alcohol Change UK, a UK charity). Are you joining in with dry January?
I drink so little anyway, many months are "dry" without me planning it

5. In the UK, tonight is the 12th night after Christmas and the date the Christmas decorations are taken down (or bad luck will enter your home!). If you have decorated for the holiday period, when do you pack them away again?
Oh yes, everything must be packed away - I was actually a bit early this year.
If I ever find anything I have missed then it gets left for the rest of the year.

6. When was the last time you cleaned/polished your shoes?
The shoes I have on, about 3 months ago ... my best boots, last week

Right, I will try and catch up properly tomorrow
debris4spike: (Default)
Sorry I didn't get the photos posted on Monday. Claire had been working at a different location and so she popped in to see me on her way home after lunch ... and sat & chatted ... and didn't leave until she realised Tim would have been home before her! She is lucky that she does have sone flexi-time.

So, sorry ... but it was nice to catch up with her.

Work went well Tuesday & Wednesday. Everyone was in a good mood, which makes like so much easier.

On Tuesday I had a check-up with the fracture clinic. And after multiple x-rays, and a long chat with the consultant I have the all-clear. He was more than happy to see me, due to the type of fracture it was. When he examined me he said that I still have some inflammation in the surrounding ligaments, but as I now know it is safe to not wear the splint it does mean I can begin to get full mobility back.

So as I said on Monday I was going to post the photos of my visit to Lytes Cary with Brenda ....

Right now I must get on.

I haven't wprked today but been out shopping as I am meeting Toni tomorrow and it's Pete's birthday.  I also have washing on the line, and am hoping to get one of the cupboards of my bedroom sorted as well.

A day off .... but not a lazy day.

Before I do all that  ...

International Day of Light - promoting how light is used in science, art, education, and sustainable development and the benefits of light. Do you have good natural light in your home - which rooms get the best sunlight?
My rooms aren't too bad ... although Spring & Autumn I spend a lot of my spare time in my conservatory, so that is lovely.
Sadly my lounge, which ha a large window, faces north ... so come winter it is darker & cooler!

Right. let's get this posted.
debris4spike: (Default)
When I started this week I didn't think I would be working at all and would get some housework done ... yes, I managed that at firts.

But in the end yesterday I ended up working afternoon/evening ... and will be doing the same this afternoon.  So less housework done than planned, although it means I didn't get bored ... but my Bank balance is happy with me!

The good news is that I have had the splint off&on and gradually regaining full strength & mobility ... so another positive.

So, I need to get on and get a bit of sorting done, before having lunch, and heading into work.  But, as ever, here's todays question -

James Brown was born today in 1933. Known as the Godfather of Soul - can you name one of his songs?

Having Googled I knew some of his work ... but never great at remembering who artists are, I was not suprised.

Right, will see you tomorrow x

Wow, It Feels Wrong

Saturday, April 13th, 2024 01:09 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
Today is a Saturday ... and the sun is shining. That somehow feels very wrong!!!! However it is lovely - I have 2 loads of washing on the line, hav walked to the shop to pick up a few things (and bumped into a a friend, so good to catch up with him.

Yesterday was busy as I was doing a half day of training for a job that I am doing over the next few weeks. ironically, for all that it annoyed me, I shall be working in a different hospital (but also very close to me) to register Bank Staff who are transferring to the national company I now work for. So the positive is that I am able to geta a few days of work ... the irony is that I hated the whole system, and now I will be doing this!!! So I am working a full day on Monday.

As you already know my plans got changed for today ... and I had thought that I would drive to Paignton as the daughter of a friend from the Church I used to go to, is being baptised. However I have decided to rest my wrist with computer work yesterday & Monday, and have a long drive ahead on Thursday, so thought I would let the arm (& ribs) rest today instead.

So, I shall also sign off here ... but as I will be busy Monday, then -

12. Created in 1996 - The Day of Silence was created to support LGBTQ youth who were consistently silenced and ignored by parents and administrators. Yearly, millions participate by staying silent for the duration of their day - communicating only with the written word, representing the silencing of LGBTQ students. Have you ever participated in this?

Didn't know this day existed.

13. International Plant Appreciation Day. Do you have houseplants? Do they thrive?

I have 6 - 8 plants ... but whether they survive or not is more luck than judgement.

14. A day to look up at the sky - do you have many planes flying over your home? Is it noisy or can you live with it?
Occasionally ... depending on the wind direction (I am about 5 miles from an airport)
We also get quite a few helicopters on their way to A&E

15. It's World Art day, and also the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci (1452) - do you have a favourite artist or sculpture whose work you would love to own?

I have quite a few of Mum's pieces, which I love
I would love to own a Canaletto of Venice.

Right, see you Tuesday x

I managed to catch up with a friend from work for a short walk ... we pretty much avoided the rain, but were stunned to see almost waves on an inland lake!

Stover is not far from where Mum & Dad used to live, so it was a popular walk for Jiffy.  But it is also fairly flat, so easier walking when I am struggling with a cracked rib.

In the afternoon I got the bus into the city as I have had some problems with my vision ... the optician was great and quite positive, that although my prescription had changed in less than 3 months it was still OK

Today I am having a lazy day ... I need to collect a prescription, but as it's cold and wet I shall leave that for tomorrow.

Instead I shall try and make some icons, which I love, but at present the mouse has to be used in my left hand, so slower than normal.  Before I do that, I must catch up -

9. National Cherish an Antique Day - a day to find out about anything you've got that has been passed down through the family. Or maybe you've bought something that you will pass down? Do you have any antiques?
Actually loads!  The room I am sitting in has a couple of books that belonged to my grandparents when they were kids ... also a clock (one of 2 in the house) on the wall that belonged to my great-granparents and were made in the 1880's

10. World Homeopathy Day - a day to raise awareness of Homeopathy. Do you believe it has a place in modern medicine?
As an ex-osteopath I am a great believer in all forms of traditional healing such as homeopathy, naturopathy etc

Right, let's get on x

Monday Musings

Monday, April 8th, 2024 11:52 am
debris4spike: (Default)
Yes, another week starts ... which means another week has gone!  as it is my month to pick some themes over at [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger I really am noticing the passing of time.

I had a good weekend - although didn't make it out to Church.  I slept through my alarm, and have realised that I obviously needed the rest.  I watched Songs of Praise on the BBC, and had some great old hymns, so that was a nice way to spend time "at Church".

Sadly I had to work in the afternoon, although it ended up being a nice shift ... I even managed to watch the final of LegoMasters New Zealiand, while speaking to people as needed.  There were 3 finalists, and as ever, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"  ... my "vote" went in the reverse order.  The one chosen as #3 was my number 1.  However all 3 were stunning builds.

I am hoping that it is going to stop raining at some point as I would like a slow walk.  sadly as I was leaving work yesterday I twisted awkardly to turn off the heater and flared up my cracked rib ... still at least I am fairly positive that the wrist is, and will, heal.

I want to get the final set of Egypt photos up, so you don't have to avoid my posts if you are not travel-orientated.  However I warn you now that it will be a large post, as they are 2 amazing temples (or, maybe I shall post individually ... I shall see how it goes)

But before I do that -

Pablo Picasso died on this day in 1973 at the age of 91. Have you ever seen a Picasso artwork in real life?

Not that I am aware of.

Right, let's get sorted x

Just Catching Up

Saturday, April 6th, 2024 11:34 am
debris4spike: (Default)
Well it's a weekend again.

I should be at a 2nd birthday party, but seeing as I flared up the cracked rib by twisting on Thursday and I am trying to protect my wrist as much as possible I dropped Lily's pressie off yesterday .. a slow walk into the hospital was nice in the fresh air.

I will admit that at the moment I am going to drop the daily photos until I am back moving around fully again ... so sorry about that, but am trying to be a good girl (that's a shock!!)

But I will post the last 2 sets of photos from Egypt, providing you are not too bored by my travels ... and will catch up with the missing questions -

3. International Children's Book Day - do you have fond memories of a particular book you read as a child?
I loved the Ladybird books ... my favourite was "The Elves & The Shoemaker".
Loved Enid Blyton ... especially The Mallory Towers series
I also loved Mum's Uncle Oojah annuals

4. It's all about walking today - do you often walk either for leisure or to get from one place to another rather than taking a car/public transport/bike? Do you live in an area with trails where you can go walking?

I do love walking ... in fact often meet up with a friend from work for a walk.
In normal days I walk into the city, rather than drive or use a bus

5. Is it raining? When was the last time you had rain in your area. Is there a lack of rain that's causing concern?
Yes, it is
Hee - too much rain is the problem at the moment

6. Clas Thunberg, a Finnish speed skater known for winning five Olympic gold medals was born today in 1893. Can you skate?

No ... although both Mum & Dad could (tried as a kid & a teen)

7. William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and is probably best known for his poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" which mentions "A host, of golden daffodils'. Are there daffodils flowering where you live (were they early, or are they late)?

They are just about over her ... I do love them.

Right, I want to catch up with you all x
debris4spike: (Default)
... Yesterday I had a totally lazy day and feel more relaxed.

For those who don't know, the bone that I am waiting to have re-xrayed is quite small,  ut the one bone in the body that doesn't always heal.  When I was training to be an osteopath it was drummed into us that if we ever suspected this fracture we were to send the patient straight to hospital.  When I was in A&E on Sunday I found that 1 in 500 (or sometimes more) will need surgery.

So, all in all, it was a shock when I fell ... but with alazy day am feeling more relaxed.

The good news is that as I am in a splint I was able to remove it for a shower this morning.  My hand is pretty coloured, but I am able to move my thumb a bit, so hopefully it will heal without surgery needed.

So, as I said, more positive.

The other good side is that although it's my right hand, when I worked as an osteopath, I worked mostly left handed, so things are going to e OK for most things.  (I will really test that in a moment as I am going to try and make a couple more icons, using my mouse left-handed ... so will report back tomorrow!!)

But, let's catch up with the questions I am missing -

30. Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., usually on the last Saturday of March. Will you be joining in?
Well as I usually only have the one light on, in whatever room I am in, it will be odd to sit in the dark for an hour

31. World Backup Day - have you ever forgotten to back something up and lost it all? Do you back up your data regularly?
My computer has a cloud-backup that is automatic.

1. Debbie Reynolds was born on this day in 1932 - have you ever seen any of her movies or TV shows? Do you have a favourite?
I do like her films. I suppose "Singing in the Rain" is a classic of hers that I do like

2. National Ferret Day - ferrets are often kept as pets, do you know anyone who has one? Would you keep a ferret?
No, and no!!

And, I can even catch up with the photos -

Saturday ... I was able to get a lot of my back garden tidied and sorted
30th March

Sunday - after my fall, we still all went on the walk ... this is Nick & Brenda's dog, Ollie
31st March

Monday ... well, maybe I shouldn't feel sorry for myself, as these were my collection ready to eat
1st April

Right, I will try & catch up with you all, and past messages.
debris4spike: (Default)
What a scary thought.

Bathroom cleaned, much of my bedroom done ... and the freezer part of the fridge-freezer has been de-frosted and cleaned.

Later today I have a sports massage ... and for the first time in over 2 years the leg injury is not my prime point of pain.  The exercises have worked (at long last).  I know that the lateral muscle is really never going to heal ... it is much more settled, but s constant ache at the site of the tear.  The calf has re-settled though which was the one that was causing me to really struggle.  The trouble is over the last couple of weeks, what with the trip to London, and the leg feeling better I have been forgetting to do the exercises, so must re-start them again ASAP rather than flare up the injuries again!  So the treatment will be able to concentrate on my long term upper body aches (they started back when I was run over in 1982) .... but again, I can be positive, in that I haven't had treatment for some months as the appointment has been concentrating on the leg.

After the massage I am coming home via the supermarket ... I have just done an "empty the freezer" over the last few weeks, so need to re-stock things ... thus the pre-emptive cleaning.

Then I aim to relax and have a lazy evening ... otherwise it will be a bit of a waste of money on the massage.

I will try and catch up with you all before I head off, but don't aim to sit at the pc for the same reason as above ... let my shoulders relax and settle.

So, before I post this -

24 – Flossing Day: Do you floss regularly?
No never – my teeth are so tightly packed that even a dentist can’t get their fine floss between most of my teeth.

Right, let's get on x
debris4spike: (Default)
Well, I have posted 3 lots of photos from Northern Ireland ... and have more to post.  So want to get at least one more set done today.

I had some treatment this morning, on my leg.  I don't think I have said, but while I was away I did one of those "almost slips" that you do on slippery surfaces ... to say my bad leg wasn't happy with me is certainly an under-statement.  Abby caused me more pain .... but in this case it's all in a good cause!  One of the things she did was to stretch my upper leg muscles, as well ... and the good news is that even though I am now 62 my knee mobility is really good.  Mum really should have had knee replacements, so maybe that won't be something I will need long term ... see, there's always a positive.

Now I am going to spend some time on the computer, but also want to make some biscuits later ... can't decide if to do "Gingerbread Men/Stars" or peanut ones.

20 –Fried Rice Day AND Pepperoni Pizza Day: September 20 is both Fried Rice Day and Pepperoni Pizza Day. Which do you prefer? Do you make your own fried rice and/or pizza, or is it take-out only?
I like both of them, but I only do take-away for them both. I will admit I am also not a great fan of pizza from a supermarket, much prefer "Pizza Hut" ... and that will be one of my meals when I go up to London in November!

Right, let's try and get some more photos done x
debris4spike: (Default)
Although I have icons to finish, and photos to edit before posting, so it will be a fun day on the computer ... well, until I have to go into work and then the computer will be work-based.

It does seem weird today that we are in August, yet I am wearing a jumper as I sit here. I know we all say we remember hot summers as a kid, and yes I do, but I also remember some very cold wet days staying in a caravan, so maybe those are the summers we are having again. I just hope those cold summers don't last too long before we get the sunshine again. The weather people said we had one of the wettest/coldest Julys on record ... seems odd when Death Valley was expecting to have the hottest days ever.

Oh well, the good news is that I don't have to water all the tubs in the garden, so that makes life easier ... so I shall focus on that positive.

Treatment yesterday went well, although my leg is very sore. The good news is that although, overall, I have had more pain in the last couple of weeks when my masseur checked the strength is returning to the leg. So, again, I can focus on the positive rather than the pain.

So, having thought of 2 positives, I ought to complete the list of "5" -

  • Not watering the garden

  • Strength in leg retuning

  • Work to go to - and health to get there

  • Food on the table, roof over my head

  • Family & friends

Tonight I will get home in time to watch the final of Legomasters New Zealand, so that will be a fun hour's watch.  Until then, let me finish with the question(s), as I am working all day tomorrow -

3 – Clean Your Floors Day: How often do you clean your floors? Do you have to deal with different types of flooring (carpeting in some rooms, hardwood, tiles, linoleum in others)? Do you use a regular vacuum cleaner or a robovac, or both? Have you ever gotten down on your hands and knees and actually scrubbed a floor – the whole floor, not just one stubborn stain?
Carpet in all the hose, except lino in bathroom and conservatory & quarry tiles in kitchen.
Mum was a great believer in cleaning the kitchen on hands & knees, so yes I have done that.  Now I use mops ... with a hoover for the rest

4 – Chocolate Chip Cookie Day: Are you a fan of chocolate chip cookies? Are you a chocolate chip cookie traditionalist, or do you like variations -- with nuts, or different types of chocolate, etc.? Do you have a favourite brand, or do you buy them from a bakery? Do you make your own? Will you share your favourite recipe?
I don't make them - and just like the real basic cheepo ones from the supermarket.

Right I shall get on.

Happy World Giraffe Day

Wednesday, June 21st, 2023 09:40 am
debris4spike: (Default)
unnamed

Today is World Giraffe Day a rarely mentioned endangered species ... but an animal I have always loved. So, as I head into work soon I have giraffe earings, necklace and a ring ... some of my smaller sized 'raffes I have around the house.

I sadly don't have time to actually spend time here, including sharing photos of my lovely walk with Christine on Monday, as I have a treatment booked soon for my ongoing leg injury ... and then snatch lunch before work.

But I will try and catch up tomorrow, as I don't have a "missing" space in my actual time off work.

But, before I go -

21 – World Music Day: How important is music in your life? Do you play any musical instruments, or are you part of a choir or other vocal group? Have you ever been in a band (rock or school or other)?
Anyone who has known me some years will know that I used to love being in an orchestra ... I do love most classical music. Not modern stuff, and not particularly pre 1700, but give me something by Beethoven and I will be there.
I do love music of the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and much of the 70's ... withodd pieces since then but .... The only actual gigs I have been to are of James, and of his band, Ghost of the Robot.

Right, torture, ummmm treatment here I come

Another Day Off

Thursday, May 11th, 2023 10:46 am
debris4spike: (Default)
This week, and next I have less hours work, which although it's not good for the bank balance, means I am able to rest and relax, and actually spend a bit of me-time. Not something I have ever done, so feels weird, but something that I do want to be able to do. It's trying to get a balance ... I know that, but with my shifts varying so much it is hard to get life sorted ... but maybe that works out better for me, as I have never been one to plan ahead, at all (well except for holidays!)

My sports massage yesterday was good ... well painful on my injured leg. However Abby is hopeful with very specific exercises I will be able to walk on holiday ... so, for once, I am being a good girl. A bit later I am going to walk and get my holiday money so we shall see how that goes.

Thinking about the place I am going reminds me of how much life has changed over the years (I must be getting old!). I am going to a large supermarket, where you can get everything ... unlike the small so-called supermarkets that I grew up with. And, years back money was only available at banks ... and mostly you ordered traveller's cheques that you cashed abroad.

Right, I need to do some serious work for my [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy post in a couple of days, as I am working tomorrow all day ... so ...

11 – World Ego Awareness Day: Do you know anyone with an incredibly inflated ego? When was the last time someone's ego came into conflict with your own?
Sadly my brother Nick ... always has had.  This means that now he is struggling with his health, physical & mental, he is having even further problems.

12 – Limerick Day: Do you like limericks? Do you have a favourite?
I love the traditional (clean) ones ... and one I actually remember is -
There was a young man from Bengal
Who went to a fancy dress ball.
He thought he would risk it
    And went as a biscuit,
But a dog ate him up in the hall!

Right, let's get on  x

Off To Work Later ...

Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 10:15 am
debris4spike: (Default)
But am seeing my sports masseur later .... hopefully a general massage, as well as some work on my injured leg, which is certainly very sore at present.

I have also had my annual thyroxine blood tests, so should get those results in a day or two.  So I have a bandage on my elbow, as well as one or a finger (where it lost a battle with a tin can) ... so all in all I am certainly falling apart at present.

I managed to basically get my conservatory cleaned, so that was a positive day ... now in spare moments I have some ironing to do, and tea to make to take to work with me.  So there's plenty to keep me out of mischief today.

Hope you are all having a fun day ... but before I go off pottering ...

10 – Stay Up All Night Night: When was the last time you stayed up all (or most of) the night on purpose (e.g. not because you were tending to an ill child or suffering from insomnia)?
Easy, easy, easy answer - September 16th - 17th 2022 ... and here is the proof (that's me bottom right walking towards the camera)

IMG-20220919-WA0002

Right, let's get going - have a fun day, will catch up tomorrow x

Extra Day Off

Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 11:18 am
debris4spike: (Default)
I have no work today, so after a couple of lazy days it is nice to have a day to try to bothcatch up with a couple of missing tasks, do some other important jobs (like order money for next week's holiday) and catch up here .. and also plan to not overwork, as I am still struggling with the virus.  So much so I actually saw my GP today and she said it is just a virus, so good to know that I haven't missed something obvious.

When I saw my GP I did point out the old phrase that Mum always said ... a virus is
"3 days coming, 3 days here & 3 days going."
But she said that we also have to add that it then takes 3 weeks to heal ... but I did add that mummy was never wrong!

Sadly the leg is slow in healing ... and as I sadi I have a holiday coming up.  I am going to Sicily for a week, so looks like i will be hobbling round the island at this rate.

But on to good news ... Tim & Claire ....
They heard last Friday that their neighbours planning had been completely rejected.  And it is in such a way that if they want to do anything on the back they are going to actually have to knock down a pre-existing extention as it is too close to the border under new rules.  So Tim & Claire were totally amazed that it was good news, and in fact much better than could have been expected.

Yesterday as one of my rexations I made some icons for comps running over at DW ....

From Your_Favourites ... Challenge #171 - TV Show by Genre: Comedy
These 4 icons are from my favourite comedy TV show ... a real easy choice. I loved M*A*S*H the first time around, and still love to catch an episode -

1   3   2   4

And, from Perioddrama_ic challenge 59 - Face off
Pride & Prejudice .... Sense & Sensibility

1   4   3   2

So now I think you are all up to date ... I want to try and give my conservatory a really good clean, but before I post this -

9 – Sleepover Day: Did you do sleepovers when you were young?
No, as I was a victim of bullying by the age that they would have occurred.

Right, let's get on x

Happy Star Wars Day

Thursday, May 4th, 2023 11:53 am
debris4spike: (Default)
May-the-4th-be-with-you-Dia-de-Star-Wars-Por-que-se-celebra-1

Well I have voted, made some biscuits ... and now here before heading off to work again.

My leg is sore, but healing.  I somehow managed to do a partial tear of a muscle overnight, which is where I was hopping so badly yesterday ... it must have been a good(/bad) dream, or something!  My osteopath just laughed as he said he remembered me last year that I have managed to injure myself in odd ways in the past!

So I must get some lunch organised ... sorry that I am really going to be MIA over all, as I am working full time tomorrow, and then on Coronation Day I have more baking to do before getting to T&C's early, so that will be a long day as well.  Hopefully I will have 5 mins to say Hi, before the day takes over ... but if not, I will see you Monday.

As I am hoping to pop in Saturday I shall just do the 2 days ...

4 – Petite and Proud Day: Petite is used to describe a person about or under 162 cm / 5'4". Are you petite? Do you think petite women maybe have an easier time of it than short men? Would you (or have you) dated someone shorter than you?
I am "average" at 5'6"(ish) ... although compared with Harry Dresden I am short!

5 – Space Day: Ever wondered what lies beyond our skies? Do you think we'll ever have permanent human settlements on the moon, or on Mars?
I love sci fi ... but I think in reality it probably won't happen.

Right, let's get on x
debris4spike: (Default)
Hi everyone.  And sorry that I have been MIA, as I went out for the day with Christine (photos at some point), and then yesterday did an 11 hour shift.

My day at Tim & Claire's was really lovely.  Over the last years we did drift apart when Mum & Dad died, but over these last years it has been great to re-build our past friendship, and if anything it seems stronger than before.

Anothere day off and this morning I had an appt with my sports masseur because my left leg injury is on-going, and it has flared up the old Achilles tendon tear.  So I have promised that this time I will do my exercises, because I am only doing them from time to time and this is not settling the problem ... so, "watch this space".  I will try to be a good girl this month.  However after treatment I am really hobbling along as this tendon is very sore.  I have just hobbled up to the shop to get some milk & bread, and now am trying to catch up here.

Hopefully some LJ, sort some photos and even make some icons.

Now before I get on with those plans I will catch up with the questions, (wow I am further behind than I thought)

1 – International Firewalk Day: Have you ever done this strange practice? Would you like to try it?

No way is all I can say to that

2 – Peanut Butter & Jelly (Jam) day: do you like this typical American sandwich? What flavour jelly (jam) do you favour?
I just like them individually

3 – Fish Fingers and Custard Day: to celebrate Doctor Who’s strange culinary experiment this day was declared fish fingers and custard day. Would you ever try this? What odd combinations of food do you like?
I am not Dr #11 ... Actually I don't eat fish at all. I tend to like savoury with savoury & sweet with sweet

4 – International Carrot Day: In your opinion, what's the best way to cook and eat carrots?
I have just had boiled carrots with my dinner.
New carrots I like to eat raw

5 – First Contact Day: As all Trekkies know, 5th April 2063 is the date that Zephram Cochrane (and Earth) first made contact with extraterrestrials (the Vulcans). Do you think we will ever make first contact with extra-terrestrial beings? If we do, do you think the knowledge that we aren't alone in the galaxy/universe would unite Terrans, or cause further divisions?
Well considering some people don't believe we ever landed on the moon, I think there will be a lot of people who would even believe that Klingons/Romulans/Whatevers exist.

Right, lets try & catch up with you all x

Monday Again ...

... Although this week the washing is up on my indoor airer. I am lucky with a 3 story house so have an airer to hang over the stairwell which means they dry fairly quickly, and still smell fresh (& no electric for a tumble drier).

I realised over the weekend that I forgot an addition to my daily meme question about the history/age of our names. Deborah was early early history, my surname early 17th century ... but the nickname was the early 1990's ... Debris is such an appropriate name for me, especially seeing as the question was on Friday when I had bumps and bruises everywhere!

Weekend shifts went well. In fact I am so thankful that I wasn't on duty on the reverse shifts as Mel who did the other 2 shifts had a couple of heart-attack patients arrive at the entrance rather than A&E ... and sadly one was a baby, who even sadder passed away. We all "talk" about the possibilities, but I don't suppose you can ever come to terms with it. Well maybe it shows we are still human if we find it hard to come to terms with such events.

Now I have a couple of days off. I had aimed to go to see Auntie Joyce to see if she had made any decisions, but seeing as the knee and wrists still ache I had cancelled the trip. On the bad side that means I have no excuse not to clean out that large kitchen cupboard.

Still I am sure I can think of some great excuses! After all I do want to have a walk, and am running low on milk so need to get that anyway. Since my trip to Turkey I do like black tea ... but drink it weak that way, and much prefer strong "builder's" tea with milk.

So ... let's get on ...

6 – Start of the British Pie Week! What is your favourite savoury pie? How about your favourite sweet pie? Is a pasty lid on top of a casserole really a pie?

Mum used to make the most amazing chicken pie. I used to watch her do it at least every other week, and can't remember what she did. And, guess whta, I never got her to write down what she added.
She also made a raspberry pie (as well as apple) to die for ... Dad's favourite.
Most of her fruit pies had a "empty" bottom, but still had pastry sides and top ... her chicken one had a top & bottom.
Now having typed that it makes me wish for a slice of both those pies again.

Right now I am hungry! I shall get myself a cup of tea before I do anything else. I am trying to be a good girl this week, as over the weekend I end up having quite a few biscuits, so I am sure the calories were a bit high!

So, will catch up with you soon x

Suprise Day Off

... and not for good reasons.

Sadly I took a tumble walking into work, and really wrenched my wrist, as well as cutting both hands ... and as I was on hospital property I did get some check-up (although had to also phone my doctors when I got home, as my BP was not at it's normal level).  So I think a bit of "over-kill" as other than the wrists I feel fine ... but there again, maybe it is something that needs looking into, and not just the shock of the fall ... and the embarrassment of all the people around.  So I have a doctor phoning back later and we shall see what (s)he thinks.

So no walk today as I am going to be a good girl ... I am aiming to work over the weekend.  But, yes, I did do a walk yesterday - 1/2 hour, and as I walked across one of the parks it was lovely to see all the dogs running round and having fun.

And, for those who wondered ... I made the peanut biscuits in the end (and they turned out really yummy)

Right, I am going to sort out some images to do for another icon comp over on DW (I shall use BtVS season 3 ... as I am working slowly through the seasons, and we are in month 3). But -

3 – What if cats and dogs had opposable thumbs day? This is a fun one, what do you think our furry companions would be doing if they could open the cans themselves?
Actually I think most pets would be opening packets of treats

4 – International scrapbook industry day: Have you ever made a scrapbook? If you were to start a scrapbook today what would you put in it?
I made scrapbooks when a kid. Nowadays I suppose it would be info about counties I hope to visit.

5 – Fun facts about Names Day: Does your name have a meaning? Were you named after somebody? How old do you think your name is? This could be your first name or surname.
My first name means "bee" and is Hebrew ... it is first mentioned in the Bible Genesis 35. It is also the name of the only female judge in the book of Judges in the Bible.
My surname goes back to at least the early 1700's, and if you split it in half they are both types of sheep ... so it comes from shepherds, and was first seen in the border country between England & Scotland.

As I said, I hope to work this weekend ... will try & catch up with you later x

Hope that you are all having a good day

So far mine is going OK ... I have done some shopping, and had some treatment on my ongoing leg injury. Overall it is doing better ... and will probably do even better if I actually did the exercises on a more regular basis!

I aim to have a fairly lazy afternoon as I am working this evening - so will catch up with you all tomorrow (promise).  I am feeling a lot better (thanks), but don't want to push myself.

Before I finish here, thought I would share some icons that I have made for competitions over on DW. As ever, they are snaggable, and the credits are available over at my icon journal - [livejournal.com profile] d4s_icons

Round 166 - Favourite Villain

So, lets just answer todays question then be lazy -

1 – World Compliment day: Do you think there is still a place in the modern world for unsolicited compliments?
Where I work we get loads of complaints ... so it is nice when people actual say thanks ... and that we are doing a good job.

Right - lets get on x
