Yes, it was my dental check-up ... and all OK for another 6 months. Although my dentist tends to aim for a 9 month gap ... not that this worries me, as I am not a great fan of appointments. Although I am a good girl and go. And, at the first sign of worry I do tend to ring for an appointment.

As I can't get a dentist locally, I go to one where Mum & Dad used to live ... so went early and went to a museum ... Bygones I had to do shopping on the way home, so have only sorted a couple of photos. However it is a great place ... a Victorian Street, rooms of a Victorian house, a few occupations, lots and lots of Victorian items ...a WWI display, with other things from other conflicts ... and lots of railway souveneirs ... complete with an actual steam train.

Ironically one of the displays is a dentist ... so here are a couple of ideas of what it's like.

I will get some more photos up at some point.

Right I will get on and get some things done around the house .... there always seem more tasks to do than hours in the day!

Right ... before I go -

19 – Daiquiri Day: Do you drink daiquiris, or any other cocktails? Do you make your own at home or are they something you reserve for an evening out at a restaurant or other social event?
I don't think I have ever had a daiquiri .... but I do like a cocktail ... Aperol, or Limon, Spritz; a Moscow Mule are 3 I can list immediately.

Right, will catch up tomorrow when I get in from work x

Happy Weekend

I had an early start yesterday as I had a dentist appointment to try to finally sort out my tooth problem.  Although she didn't think the treatment would work, it actually had ... so I was glad to know that she had saved the tooth and could do the final filling.  However, while there I also needed to show her where I had broken the front tooth off it's plate last week.  So, she took another impression and saod I could be able to pick it up later ... brilliant.

So I decided to go to the shops that where nearby, and that were also the supermarket that Mum & Dad used to go to every week.  In fact over the last couple of years they went, I used to drive them there and take Jiffy for a walk while they shopped.  So, as part of my walking routines and in memory of Jiffy I went for one of the 2 walks we used to do .... up to see the County Court which is just under a mile away -

This is the car-park between the supermarket and M&S

I also walked past the steps that we sometimes walked up to do a different walk, but by then it was starting to rain again, so I didn't go on "both" walks (I know, I' m lazy!)
DSC_0141

So I then went into M&S to have a look to see if there were any nice dresses, which there weren't, but I did buy a pair of shorts.  I then decided to do my shopping at Sainsbury's, and bought a dress & a skirt there, as well.

From ther I went back to M&S for lunch.

I still had a couple of hours to kill, so I decided I would go and visit Heather (the next-door neighbour of Mum & Dad).  I used to go and see them whenever I took Jiffy for a  hair-cut, but with Covid and losing Jiffy I hadn't seen her since last year at Eric's funeral.  Sadly Heather is now totally bed-bound.  So I spent a lovely hour with her, but it was so sad to see her like that ... just thankful that it never happened to Mum or Dad.

Anyway, back to the dentist - but don't know what they did as the plate no longer fit .... at all.  So I will have to go back next week to get that sorted out (again)

Today I have done a 3 mile walk and a bit of housework - so now I am getting caught up here (although I shall catch up with comments later).  However before I get on with other work etc -

This morning I started with a trip to Torquay (where Mum & Dad used to live), and to St. Marychurch This district is about 2 miles from where we used to live, and from our view it looked as if the Church had a steeple and a tower.  In reallity the 2 Churches are about 100yds apart.

The CoeE is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and although I couldn't go in it has a Saxon font dating from around 1110 AD. On Sunday May 30, 1943, the main part of this church was destroyed by a German bomb, killing 26 children and teachers.  So, as you can see much of it looks nice & shiny, but presumambly still in the same style.  This is the one with the tower, in the tree filled cememtry.

The Catholic one, with the steeple, is dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians & St Dennis.  That is an unusual dedication IMHO

So I had a short walk around, before heading to the dentist.  So, now I have a temporary filling in which will be there for a couple of weeks.  She still can't find a reason, but is still doing the slow route to repair.  Thinking, long-term, I do wonder if it is stress related after the ill health & Jiffy's loss.  I eventually lost a front tooth over a long time unresolving problem when Mum died suddenly, and Dad dying a year later.  Hopefully this will be sorted, but I do wonder if I am going to lose this one as well ... watch this space!

So, PhotoFriday & news ... wow, that's a shock!

I was back home in time for a late lunch (eaten carefully), and then a 3 mile walk, as it's sunny, although chilly.  The forecast for the weekend isn't great.

But, as ever -

7. What time is your alarm clock set for?

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] jen_nsync_landl ... hope you are having a good day.

Yesterday Brenda sent me a link to this photo .... her 5 boys, she said.  They are on holiday, so it seems as if they are enjoying family time together.

This morning I had to go to Mum & Dad's to meet the gas engineer to service the boiler, and then the people who are doing the final empty and clean of Mum & Dad's.  It'a the start of the end, and yet it still hasn't sunk in.  This last year has passed over me, yet somehow I can't come to terms with things.

Dad is ok, although a bit low emotionally and finding this warmer weather harder to cope with.  But the staff are monitoring him, and I have managed to get in 5 days a week.  I ususally take Jiffy about every 10 days.  Dad loves seeing "the boy" as he always calls him, and he livens up the staff no end.

Speaking of Jiffy I also took him back to the vets this morning.  He had an infection in his right anal gland.  I have been having to apply warm compresses to him, and it's getting batter.  If it hadn't improved it would have meant surgery, so that's good news.

Once we had seen Marni we went for a walk locally to her ...Brunel Woods )

Oh well, back to work tomorrow ... but only for the day, then out again with Christine on Friday.

Hope you are all having fun x

Last week on Tuesday Christine and I got the bus to Goodrington and walked back to Torquay.  As we got back, and stopped for a cuppa (and a cake!), my phone registered that we had done 1,000 steps on our walk.

It was great exercise, but more especially nice to spend the time with a good friend chatting.

I have a few photos, although Andrew has borrowed my camera, so this was on Mum's.  I am not used to looking at the back of a small camera, so am pleased with how things came out.

Here be photos )

Thanks Christine for a great afternoon.

.... And although it was busy in the morning, it was productive ... managed to finish Dad's section of his book-edit, I now just have to go through it all and check all the Bible references are correct.

After lunch I took Mum & Dad ... and Jiffy down for a walk along the harbour  ... and an ice-cream, of course.  It was so unusual to actually get sunshine on a Bank Holiday, we just had to take advantage of that fact!

Enjoying the afternoon out )

The weather wasn't great, but we decided we were going to stick to our plans and have a stroll ... and an ice-cream!

Sadly with Mum & Dad's health as it is a stroll is what it is ... but from my point of view I think I saw more of what was happening around me than normal. So that was a bonus. Jiffy realised there were lots of lamp-posts and bins ... and poles ... and ... and to sniff! And seagulls to glare at ... and chase.

A great afternoon!

Well it was on Sunday afternoon at Mum & Dad's!  Flowers are out (so are the weds), bees are buzzing - and we have a hot dog!

I am annoyed - Monday morning is baking morning and decided to rty a new cake recipe ... hasn't worked, at all - I have shoved it back in the oven in the hope it will behave itself ... anyway, the bread rolls were fine.  So not a total loss of a morning.

My Holiday - Day 8

I am trying to catch up on some computer stuff today, as I spent yesterday sorting boxes out, when not resting the leg in the horizontal.  So today it is computer time ... and I warn you now, you may feel a bit spammed, so apologies ahead of time, if so.

On Annemarie's last day with us I took her to Cockington Village.  If you just look at the photos it looks pure English and in the middle of nowhere.  Yes, it is pure, traditional English (not a re-build); but it is actually part of Torquay.  So about 4 miles drive from Mum & Dad's.

Enjoy a stroll round the village. )

Actually overall I must say there are a lot of positives ... It started by me paying some bills, so now the bank account is absolutely empty.  One of those was I decided to pay for a years prescription charges in advance ... thus saving money, but the £104 was not a nice amount to spend.

Yes, I took today off work, for a couple of reasons.

The first of which was to get my decorating done - so my bedroom is finished and things packed away.  I ampleased to have got it done (must take some pics at some point!)

I also wanted to "do" something for my birthday, so went to Torquay early, had a walk along the harbour and went to the museum.  Yes, I took pics, but when I got to M&D's it was to find Dad's pc had died so I am using Mum's laptop, which I hate.  So I will put the pics up on Monday.  I know I still owe you somefrom Annemaries trip/holiday ... so I must get on and SPAM you then.  Good afternoon, although I got back to find a parking ticket on my car ... the Traffic Warden was obviously blind, so I now have that to sort out!

So, I shall be on-line a bit, but not as much as I hoped as I don't like using Mum's laptop.  The keyboard feels wrong ... and no mouse.

Hope you all had a fun Friday - and are looking foreward to a funner weekend!

My Holiday - Day 2

I did warn you I would end up leaping around as I uploaded the pics.

This was the Tuesday, and although Annemarie is not a fan of visiting places, she loves "critters" ... Jiffy was a firm favourite, of course.  So, on the Tuesday afternoon I took her to Living Coasts which is part of Painton Zoo ... but is actually on the edge of Torquay Harbour.

The weather wasn't promising for an outdoor venue, but we had dry weather the whole time ... so it was great to wander around, and take photos. I took over 100, so they are not all here! But I do have the link at the bottom of the mini pic-scam for the album if you want to see more.

Overall I loved the Macaroni Penguins the best ... Having not seen them before -

And here a few more pictures of the afternoon, including the dolphins, and the venue itself. )

Hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.

I know that I am out of order with the pictures, but thought I would put up these few, so I get another day ticked off.

Saturday morning I went into Torquay to see how much my camera would cost to be mended, and as they were talking a minimum of £180 I decided (after a walk and a chat with Annemarie) to buy the new one ... so I now have a Nikon 3100 ... and in the afternoon had to go out to play!

Well, actually it was nice and we all decided to have a bit of a walk, although Mum & Dad didn't walk as far, it still seemed a long way to Mum.

I had a day off work today and as it was half term had arranged to meet up with my friend from Church. We caught a bus to Goodrington and then walked back along the coast to Torquay. Stopping for lunch half way, and an ice cream at the end.

It was a nice break - and great to relax and chat. About 6-7 miles, and just a lovely time. The sun came out as we were eating our ice-creams ... but as you can see in these photos (I borrowed mum's camera) that it was dry.
