debris4spike: (Gardening - cut the grass Avon &Vila)
I moved into this house 8 years ago, and am only getting round to re-doing my study, so I can get a carpet down ... at long last.  I did paint it when I had the bookshelves made, but have wanted to get it properly done, and carpetted.  So a couple of weeks ago I chose the carpet, and booked the fitting ... so now I have a timetable.

I had today off work, but after going into the city to get a haircut, do some shopping, including new sandles, I didn't get much done today.  Luckily it is a small room!  I want to get it mostly sorted tomorrow (another day off)

Tomorrow I also want to go up to the cemetery to cut the grass round the gravestones,  They do mow the grounds, but not 101% up close to the stones for safety sake, so I want to get them looking good ... we have good weather here, and it is Easter.

Anywaay, once I have done the study I want to finally get on with my spare room ... a job that REALLY needs doing!!

My other decorating project is one I am not doing.  Tonight someone came to pick up my garden bench to clean, repair & varnish.  I know some people will think I am mad to spend money on an old bench .... however, it was a gift to Mum when she left her P/T job back in 1983.  She went to work for the 4 years I was at college, and worked at a departmental store (where I also worked Saturdays, & holidays) ... and they had a collection when she left (so rare at that shop),  and she had this super bench.  I don't want to loose it.

Oh well, as you can see I am busy .... which is good ... especially as I do struggle with depression, as most of you know.  So am pleased that I am beginning to kick back some focus.

... And as [livejournal.com profile] teragramm knows, I am also trying to learn more techniques for my icons ... and attempting banners.  She foolishly offered to give me a bit of help, and supposrt.  Thank you
debris4spike: (Oooops - Cap'n John)
I owe replies, I haven't caught up with my f-list .... I am just so, so bad!

But I am determined to start catching up, starting today.  In about 1/2 hours time Jiffy and I are heading out to pick up my friend Christine, have a walk and lunch at a doggy friendly place.  I am taking my camera but as the decorator is still in I can't get at my main computer so won't share today .... but will asap.

Anyway, what's up with me?  Not much!

I am having my kitchen painted at present, and yesterday the same painter finished painting my bedroom.  The carpet arrives next week.  So hopefully as the days and weeks now move on I shall be able to start packing things away in their permenant homes.  I have decided to have a sunlounge off my kitchen, so there is that to confirm and book ... and then the only thing I will eventually need is a new lounge carpet and the room painted.

No further on my holiday plans, as I am waiting for Annemarie to confirm the dates with her.  So annoying, as I dare-say flights, etc will be going up in price.   So am still at the vague point of Oregon - LA - San Fransisco - Visiting a friend in Missouri.  Will update, when I can.

Jiffy is doing well - slightly confused by stuff being moved around all the time, so it will be nice to get him settled again.

Having been a bit on-off with the gym, I have gone twice last week, already once this week, and booked for a class on Friday.

I have had a week or two of drifting, but I am determined to get myself back on track.  I will catch up with comments, re-post a gift I owe (!), and try to keep up to date with all your journals.  Bear with me - I will get there!

Well I had better get on and get Jiffy ready.

I know I have missed a few birthdays over this last week sorry - but on the day that would have been Mum's 89th birthday, I do hope you had a good day, and the year ahead is special.

Be back later *hugs*

Not For Me!!

debris4spike: (Jiffy - sitting)
I have had to get up "early" today, despite not at work as the decorator arrives at 7.45am

So I have just had the TV on and saw a programme about an American couple making a "Tiny Home".  It was a lovely place, with room for 4 cats, as well.

However for me, it is ironical that they (and others) are making these petite places, whereas I am looking to get a conservatory built.  So I am up-sizing ... not down-sizing!
debris4spike: (Skeleton)
I seem to have spent the last few weeks dipping in and out ... terrible.

I am totally in a muddle as I am having my bedroom furniture built, painted and the room decorated.  I decided while in a muddle I would get evn more muddled, knowing (?hoping) that as the days go along then my whole place will be more organised.  Please note I am not saying my life will be more organised, just the house!!

Anyway, what else?  Because I am having my bedroom done, and all my junk is in my spare room it means (Jiffy &) I are sleeping on the settee.  Needless to say, my old spinal injury has flared up for the first time in absolutely years.  So I make a good advert at the hospital ... work for the NHS and you have to stumble around dragging a leg!  I actually had to leave early on Monday, Tuesday is a half-day, but yesterday I was able to get most of the way through the day!  So, all in all I am getting better.  Today I don't have a clinic, so am not at work, although have to go in later.  I am sitting resting and doing this before trying to catch up with my Future-Learn course.

I went to Nick & Brenda's for lunch on Saturday.  And I must say Nick was more relaxed than I had seen him in literally years, and unlike when I was there at Christmas, he didn't disappear for a few hours.  So I am hoping that in writing his book he has been able to take another step on his way to that light at the end of his long tunnel.  I have read the book, and for me it was listening to Nick as I remember him in his twenties.  So although he can't process this, I do believe that he is managing to find a few of the positives that he talks about looking for.

So, sorry there is nothing much to talk about - and certainly no real reason for my "poor attendance".  I didn't even po in to do the 365 meme yesterday!

No news on the holiday.  I'm waiting for Annemarie to confirm those starting points.  So will catch you up to date when I know more.

Hope you are all enjoying February so far ... can't believe we are already more than a week in!  Will try and be a better girl!

A Proper Post!

debris4spike: (James - buzz cut & name.)
I am so busy spamming you with London photos, as well as managing to keep up to date with the December Meme that I haven't actually done a proper post in ages ... so here goes.

  • First, I am so sorry, but I forgot to post Birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] gillo and [livejournal.com profile] shaddyr yesterday.  I truly hope you both had lovely days, being spoilt by those you love and that the coming year will be a truly special one.

  • I have just got back from the doctors.  I have been signed off for the rest of this week with the option to just phone in on Monday if I still feel rough.  It is being called a viral chest infection, but basically exhaustion on top of that.  I have had viral chest infections most years, normally lasting about 5 - 7 days, so it's obvious when my body has to slow down that's what gets to me.

  • Jiffy has another bad skin infection, so he was happy to go and see Marni for a cuddle (and anti-biotics!)

  • My new kitchen worksurface arrives tomorrow.   So when I finish this I have to clear all the surfaces.

  • I really need to get organised for Christmas.  I think I have done most of the shopping, but need to sort it out and post things off.  I haven't even thought about cards, but already received some, so I must focus.  Maybe I will try to get started tomorrow while my kitchen is being dismantled.

  • Yesterday I had a suprise phone call.  The person who had been Mum's friend while they were at school during the war.  They lost some of their closeness when she married, and then Mum moved away, but have still kept in touch and visited .  She just phoned to find out how I was coping.  So that was really lovely.

Well, anyone who is still awake wins a special award.

Now, I will post some more London photos later! But to finish, a Christmas song I heard on the radio this morning -
debris4spike: (With James - Christmas)
Day 02 → your holiday wish list

Actually I don't have one!

I could do with a new swim suit at some point.   Brenda text me last week to see if there was anything I wanted .... and I suggested ear-rings.  Mum & Dad took a long time to accept that I had my ears pierced, but when they did, they bought me some every birthday and Christmas ... so it would be something I would be missing this year.

I suppose my real wish is that the house is looking like a home by the 25th.  The decorating is finished for the time being, but I am feeling like a "damp dish-rag" as Dad would have said.  Also the carpets don't arrive till the 15th, so hopefully I shall be able to get things looking square by then.

London Photos #2

The delay is terrible - so sorry.  In actual fact I am off work again, with another chest infection.  I do certainly hope it doesn't last as long as the infection did in the New Year.

The decorators have finished for the moment.  So have some sticky paint at present, bur as of tomorrow I can start to get some of the pictures up in my hall.  The carpets ar due in a couple of weeks time, so can't get the bookcases back in the hall, or the furniture organised in the spare room.  But as I am really not great I have the perfect excuse not to push myself.

So, following my photos of the Florence Nightingale Museum, I walked a bit around the St Thomas's area. When I was in my first year at college in 1979 we did human dissection at St Thomas's, yet I couldn't work where we used to gI had dinner in County Hall, sounds posh I know, until I tell you it was a McD's!!! And then back over Westminster Bridge ... and as, ever the camera was busy.

Around Parliament regions )
debris4spike: (Sorry ... James)
No more photos for another couple of days, no time to check my f-list .... Life is still taking over.

I have got rid of the stuff, mostly, around the staires, but still have some furniture to move, so almost ready for the decorators to return for the next time.

On Sunday I did pop to visit Auntie Joyce.  Spoke to Brenda and she had persuaded Nick not to do the trip, which I agreed with.  He is not coping at all.  His work have been great, but even that hasn't been the answer, although it has helped him.  At least he is admitting he can't cope with life, so that's positive.  Brenda is busy at work, and coping with Nick, plus being taxi driver to the 3 younger boys!  So, I left here at just before 9am, having taken Jiffy for an early walk, and stopped for lunch and eventually got there at about 2.15pm.  The nurse said she is actually doing OK, and they hope to discharge her home sometime this week.  I stayed about 2 hours, and headed back home.  Stopping for tea, and getting stuck in traffic, I eventually made it hope about 10.30pm.  Jiffy had been a good boy, and "kept his legs crossed".

Poor boy, especially as yesterday the weather was horric, so another day without a real walk again.  I was shattered all day, but an early night and a later start today have helped me to feel more human again.

In a minute I am off to the solicitors to "swear" the probate on dad's will.  Then back to work again this afternoon.

Work tomorrow, but then an extra day off to start sorting things out (ha, ha).  So hopefully I shall get some photos sorted and up, and get comments answered.

Sorry - will try to be a better friend soon, I promise (fingers crossed)

I'm Back!!!!

debris4spike: (London)
Wow, my feet are sore!  Yes, I will post photos, although not all the 750 I took!!!!

Highlights included being at The Cenotaph on Remebrance Day, having my photo taken with Yoda (!) ... and the star moment being spending a couple of hours with the truly lovely [livejournal.com profile] deborahw37 .... the British Museum, and coffee and cakes (of course).  Thanks Deb, next time I pay!

Just collected Jiffy, and Sarah assured me he was happy, except for the fireworks, but he managed to find somewjere safe to hide.  However he did spend quite a bit of time either sitting by the front door, or by his "case".  Yes, he was happy to see me, but great to see he was OK to give Sarah a cuddle as we left.

I have taken this afternoon off work in the end, to relax, and start the photos for you all!  Also I have the decorators here ... Yay, and they have told me next week they will do my hall, stairs and landings  So, this afternoon I must go and get carpets organised!

Well I had better get on - my washing is on the line, but I do need to finish unpacking, write some letters, and then look at some of my photos.

I will be spamming for the rest of the week!!!

btw, did I miss anything?
debris4spike: (London - Dr Who (+ James lyrics))
Somehow these last couple of weeks have flown by .... I have been at work, and carrying on with the gym.  So things are progressing well.

However I also have no painting work done yet, so am still living in a muddle still.  While things are in chaos anyway, I have decided to go ahead with the order for a granite work-top while life is upsidedown.  I will be getting money from Mum & Dad, so the money will be paid back to me, although until then the credit card has to carry the bill.

So, overall things are moving forward.  I am sort of aiming for my birthday in June to be pretty much sorted out.  That way I can take my time to begin to pull my life into some sort of shape.

Anyway, the real news is that as of early tommorrow I am off to London for a few days.  Jiffy is with doggy-sitters, so I just hope he's happy.  She is lovely, as is her housemate, so I think they will spoil him ... well, I hope so, anyway.

Lots to see & visit, and a great friend to meet up with.

So, prepare to be spammed with photos next week ... signing off till Tuesday at the earliest.

*hugs*

Thank You ...

debris4spike: (Yay!)
... To everyone who kept their fingers crossed!!!

As I type this my new kitchen cabinet is being put in place ... spare room to come Friday.  And painters lined up.  So, it's all coming together.

Added to that I am getting my garden fence painted, so life is pretty good at this moment in time.
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
No work this afternoon, the sun was shining and I was pain-free enough to spend an hour  painting a bit more of my fence!

So I am very happy with that!
debris4spike: (Do Not Disturb - James!)
I had the afternoon shift cancelled today, and although not good when it comes to paying bills, it has meant that I have got on and got my lounge finished and "put back".

Here is one "during" photo ... and the finished result ....Follow the paint splashes .....  )

I really must get some clarinet practice done - did I tell you that I playing for Bude orchestra again at the end of this month?

.
debris4spike: (Giraffe)
... So what, I hear you say!

Well a few months back I did the 12th diary ... and a group of us said that we would try to do it every month.  I failed miserably, so have decided to make a valient effort today!

Hope your day was more fun!!

Escaping ....

Decorating!

I have had a quiet start to my week, so decided to be positive and start decorating my lounge.  For those who remember I had some water damage to the ceiling soon after I moved in due to the poor bathroom.  So that has been my excuse to ignore the state ... it needs to dry.  But I really want to get on and get it done.  So the ceiling is painted, half the woodwork, and about 1/4 of the walls.  There is quite a bit of furniture in there - cabinets as well as the settee and seat, so it's a case of doing a corner at a time.  Not the traditional way, but it works!

Anyway, I have had enough ... one disadvantage of being single, no one to work with, so I get fed up easily!

Oh well, yesterday I also got my fridge/freezer defrosted in my spare time, so that was good.

Also a good clarinet practice done.  I am playing again in a concert in Bude in September.  What I haven't told you is that I have had to replace my clarinet, and even though I got a second-hand one, that was money I was not expecting to have to pay out ... so my bank balance is more than empty (thank you Mummy for the loan!)

On a final note before I get back to some more work (... not that I shall do much more today! ), I thought you might like to see this picture of my brother Nick and his family.  We don't usually get pictures of him, let alone everyone together - it was taken by my eldest nephew's girlfriend while they were all on holiday last week.

Nick

And for those who don't know, my brother is almost 5 years younger than me ... that picture made me feel truly ancient!

debris4spike: (Procrastinate - daleks.)
[livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat has suggested that maybe it would be nice to do the write up that we did last month on a monthly basis .... For those who don't know what I mean, clickety-click

So I decided I would try to give it a go, as I have been wanting to re-focus my life ... which means my LJ as well as eveything else. As I said I was doing more icons this month, I have also managed to get my decorating almost finished in my spare room - and will do the final bits when I have typed this. So, all in all, focus is happening ... well at the moment anyway LOL

So, as today is the 13th, that means the 12th was yesterday ... so what happened to fill my day?

Wednesday 12th June 2013 )

So nothing exciting - but a normal day ... that actually went quite well.

OK, lets get my furniture put back in place in the spare room ... and hopefully some time for a few icons before bed!

Happy Thursday everyone.

Icons

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 10:25 am
debris4spike: (James - my name)
I am meant to be decorating - my kitchen needs the final sort out, as it's almost finished ... and I have started my spare room. However I have not been playing icons all morning (although I have spent some time arguing with PhotoBucket ... why do companies have to change things that work OK?). I have actually sorted out my tubs - weeded, airated, ready for some plants ... so that feels positive (and it was nice to be outside in the sunshine)

Anyway, here is another set of icons - this time for round 9 of [livejournal.com profile] history20in20. I will admit I don't really like "free rounds" - but these are a good challenge away from my normal TV programmes I do every month.

Here are the 3 teasers -

 photo NegSpace_zps27e64980.jpg      photo Significance_zps8d0c77ed.jpg      photo Rushed_zps2abe0780.jpg

On a side note (for my friends) - in that last teaser icon the man on the far right is actually my grandfather!  He worked for Samuel Williams before and during the war ... as my dad also did during the war.

The full set is here )

I must get on with my decorating - I can't put it off any longer!

The Age Meme

Thursday, February 14th, 2013 07:18 pm
debris4spike: (James - silhouette)
Yuk - they have changed the posting thingy and not giving me the option to opt back.  Why change something that isn't broken.

Happy Valentines Day - I am meant to be doing some decorating as I have had 2 very tired days with nothing done other than work.  But rather than do that I thought I would do this mini meme that I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues.... she gave me age 32

Age I was given: 32 (1993)
I lived in: At home with my parents in Bude, North Cornawall
I drove: White Ford Fiesta
I was in a relationship with: No one.
I feared: Never knowing who "I" was.
I worked at: I was an osteopath with my own practice in Bude.
I wanted to be: loved

Now I am: 51
I live in: Exeter, Devon (during the week) and in Torquay with my parents (at weekends)
I am in a relationship with: No one.
I drive: a Chevrolet Matiz
I work at: I am an Auxilliary Nurse at The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital
I fear: Always being single
I want to be: loved.

So, sad to say, other than my job and address very little has changed.  Although I tend to be more positive about life and a bit more independant ... but the rest of my life seems pretty static.  If you want to play, just ask for an age.

Oh well, I must get some cleaning done - my kitchen is almost finished, so hope to get it done this evening.

Hope you are all enjoying a cuddle with your loved ones.

Life Rushes On

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 08:39 am
debris4spike: (James - looking down)
No exciting news here - I am taking today off to try to fight my viral bugs (2 months ... and counting) .. and, yes, I am going to see my doctor today, before you all nag. I also want to get some decorating done, as that seems to be dragging.

A weekend of news wasn't it? ... England found a missing King (buried in a car park, if you missed that) ... and I lost a friend, Pete, suddenly. A musician from Bude who was visiting the Andes for a month had a stroke and died. Having spoken to his family it is hard to know when his body will be returned here.  And Steve (James Marster's agent) lost his partner of 25+ years - Craig was not someone I met, but I know that Steve (and their daughter) will have a tough time ahead.  For both Pete and Craig's families and friends, my heart goes out to them - in the hope that they can focus on the years of love and laughter in the past.

And in honour of Reg Presley, lead singer, who died -

This is one of those songs that you know exactly what will be playing as you hear that first note, isn't it?

Well this isn't getting my breakfast eaten, is it? I know I planned a slower day - but this is taking things a bit too far.

Hope your day is going well.

debris4spike: (Giraffe)
.... But instead procrastination has won!  Well, I just HAD to catch up with my f-list, didn't I?

I didn't do any decorating yesterday ... although I had a short shift.  So must do some today.

I had a shift at the nursery again today - I think work is trying to make up to me for the fact I have never had kids to play with!  I have a sore throat though as there were some good story books about animals to read ... Hissssssssss, Roaaaaaar ... not good for the throat, at all!

So I have painted some more in my kitchen, but have decided to reorganise my spare room ... I know I only got it sorted recently, but how I had the storage stuff just didn't work, so while painting I am taking a break to move boxes ... I aim to get inspired to paint the walls as well!

Well, I had better get on and do some work.

Hope that you are all having fun
*hugs*
