Yesterday I drove to Nick & Brenda's to have lunch with them to celebrate their Silver Wedding Anniversary.

We had a nice lunch, with a couple who are close friends from Church, then back to their house for the photos.  Brenda and I also had a great walk before I headed back home.  A great day, that I really enjoyed.

Sadly Tim & Claire were busy, as were her siblings ... although more sadly her Dad had a stroke last wek.  So I was the only one there, but I wouldn;t have missed it for anything.

As all of you probably know by now we had a terrorist related incident in London, and as ever random people walking through the city are injured or have lost their lives.  It seems small compared with other atrocities, but no doubt is meant to scare people away from the city.

No way - terrorists are not going to run my life ... or my country!

Anyway, enough of politics (etc) not something I usually even mention on LJ.

##########

I keep saying I am back and then disappear!  Last time I picked up a tummy bug (I think the kid who sat in front of me at Church the previous day was ill), and sadly my Chronic Fatigue set back in ... so I somehow lost a week.  I managed to work for 2 days, but that was all.

So, I need to focus, and get back on track.  There is no way I can skim back through your news, and I must yet again apologise that I have been a bad friend (I should get that sentence in the pc memory and that way just fill that line in each time! ).

So what I need to do is do a catch-up post incase any of you remember who I am, and want to know where I am and what I am doing! It's all about me - )

I do hope that you are all well ... any news, please let me know.

Obviously none this year - but here are a couple from the last few years. This one was taken when we were on holiday in Kos in 2007 ... we went over for a day trip to Turkey

Merry Christmas

debris4spike: (With James - Christmas)
At long last I am getting a few minutes of time, and I hope that as the New Year approaches I shall be able to be regular visitor again.  So much of the future is settled, but still a lot up in the air.  However this post is more about Christmas ... I had hoped to post something in the last couple of days but life was hectic, and I was both exhausted and felt totally in limbo.

Thirteen weeks ago Mum, Dad & I were talking about Christmas and the vague plans for those times.  Now that Christmas is here, those weeks have paid a heavy toll on all of us, and has ended with "us 3 kids" feeling totally in limbo.

This was taken by one of the nurses at a Carol concert we went to at the home -

Christmas was still a special time.  Because of Dad, Nick and family came down Christmas Eve ... and came to me for lunch.  I had offered to cook, but they said that the chippy at the end of my road would be great.

Christmas Eve  )

Christmas Day started with a lovely walk for Jiffy and myself, then when we got back he KNEW that Santa had been to visit!

Santa Clause is coming to town )

I then went to pick up Tim & Claire, and we went to Mum's grave and onto Dad. Dad was snoozy when we got there but after a cup of tea, he was bright and cheery ... it was a joy to see. We chatted, laughed, and it was a joy to see Dad being Dad again.

And so back quite late to Tim & Claire's for Christmas Dinner.

At Long Last

Well I am still coughing, still very sore from all the coughing ... and still tired, but I went to work again on Monday, and will do again tomorrow.  I realised that in the past when the bugs have taken over I have just slept for 3 days and nights.  Now with Mum & Dad, I can't.  Still, I have managed to rest quite a bit ... so am slowly healing.

I did manage to go out with my friend Christine to take Jiffy for a walk last week.  We go to Stover park, and there are lots of things for Jiffy to sniff!  I did take some photos but they are not uploaded on this computer ... I will try and get some pics up tomorro when I have a few spare minutes at my place.

Last Saturday, Nick, Brenda and the boys came for lunch (more photos).  M&D didn't know, so it was hectic, but a nice suprise.

Mum is still not doing well, which means Dad isn't so good either, as she tends to take out her frustrations on him.  On a posiive note she has "discovered " Johnny Cash Gospel Music, so that gives her a positive way to spend time, as she tends to sleep or "drift" the rest of the time.

I have chosen one song for my funeral ... I shall go out to this -

LOL

I know I owe some replies, but will try to catch up soon

Yes, it was a good time.  Brenda and I managed not to poison anyone.  It was just a relaxing family day ... although there were a few tears choked while we listened to a recording of them taking their vows, especially as Dad was the person who married them.

Anyway, here are a few of the family photos - Happy Families )
debris4spike: (Family)
On the Saturday all the family arrived to celebrate Dad's birthday.

Andrew was the first to arrive as I picked him up from the station (my brother Tim had arranged to do that, but somehow decided it would be too much, so organised me ... still it meant I got a chance for a bit of a chat with him, so that was good).  About 1/2 hour after we got back Tim & Claire arrived, and about 10 mins later Nick & Brenda and the remaining 3 boys arrived ... so all there!

Brenda and Claire had arranged the food between them ... to make things easier, although I still had the house to organise, and bought the drinks.  Claire did dinner, and Brenda puddings (home-made cheesecake and pineapple upsidedown cake ... yummy!)

Dinner is served )

Then Dad had a snooze while some of us took Jiffy for a walk ... and so to the pressies from the N&T
 photo DSC_0426_zps06fce226.jpg

As ever when family get together it's a time of relaxation and chat ... although I know that old habits die hard and as I find myself retreating as I did when I was bullied as a teen.  I love my family dearly, but even they can make me feel on the outside.

The family )

And so to tea.  Again, Brenda had made cakes (Joey had made brownies) and Claire had done the savouries.

Although, Mum made the actual cake - she has always made him one and despite her sight problems, still wanted to do it.

Tea" )

And sadly soon time to head home ... well, it was eventually.  Nicks diesel car had a flat battery, so Tim went and bought jump leads from an all night garage ... and plugged it onto my car

 photo DSC_0474_zps3ba1ee42.jpg

A good day - and another one that Dad enjoyed.

***

PS
For the observant - there was a bunch of flowers on the table.

When Dad went out to buy the paper he came back with them.  He knew he wanted to buy them, but couldn't (sadly) remember why.  Well, Mum & Dad moved in together 18 months after their marriage ... the week of dad's birthday, and since then on the Saturday after his birthday he has always bought her a plant or flowers.  So sad he had forgotten the reason, but lovely to see the thought was still there.

Hi

How are you all?

Glad you enjoyed my photos round Exeter - it was fun to spend the day, and I was happy to be able to share with my friends. I shall get round to answering comments in a moment.

On Saturday I drove Mum, Dad & Jiffy to Nick & family ... normally a 2 hour journey, but the roads were hectic, so it took longer. In the afternoon Jiffy took Brenda and myself for a good walk ... so a nice day overall.

On Sunday, Jiffy needed to recover ... as you can see here -

Poor over-worked boy )

I was glad the photos came out, as my camera was mucking up ... so I have sent it off today for repair ... and am now panicking that I wont get it back in a moth's time ready for my London trip.

I loved "Skin Game" ... I have loved the whole series of books, but will admit this was one I found hard to put down. I must hurry up and listen to my back CD's so that I can listen to this one as well. As ever, a great story, lovely part of the Dresden epic ... and now I can't wait for the next book to be written!

Hope life is OK with you all.

Happy Monday!

So much for keeping in touch - the last week has gone, I have missed birthdays, I have missed your news - I am a poor friend.

Anyway - it was Mum's birthday over the weekend, which was good.  She is not emotionally very well at all - Having suffered from nervous problems all her life the last few months has really taken it's toll.  Still on the Sunday she had Nick & Brenda come over in the afternoon ... and what she didn't know is that they were also going to bring the 4 boys.  So that was a real treat for her.  A lovely afternoon was had by us all.

For me it was a bit hectic as I drove to Exeter (30 minute drive) to collect Claire from the hospital and take her home (their car is very low-slung) ... it was great to see her getting home, all be it very wobbly.  I went round Monday morning, as well, and she was already a little stronger.

New fridge-freezer arrived Monday afternoon, as my last one died.  Now I have a new shiny "empty" appliance ... can't afford to put food in it, now I have paid for it ... LOL

I was able to get to Bible Study on Tuesday ... we are now starting the book of Revelation.  I always find those evenings fascinating as the rest are Filipino, ex-Catholics ... so their Bible teaching and heritage is so different to mine.  We have great evenings, and I always come out feeling blessed.

So - what have I missed?  I hope if there is any news you will let me know.

*hugs*

PS - just had to use the new icon I made ... I amused myself, even though I haven't a clue what the dots say ... so hope it's nothing rude!  I must get some more icons made.

What a hectic few days ... work  last week

Mum's birthday on Saturday ... Nick, Brenda and boys came for a suprise visit today .. which really made her day.

Claire got out of hospital today ... she has been having problems as she has been reacting to the painkillers so its been a hard few days ... I drove to Exeter from Toequay to pick her up as my car is easier to get into ... then back to get tea for mum!!  Tim said it wad ok ... but I would not have not done that for them.

Tomorrow I cant work as I am having a new fridge freezer as mine died last week.

So busy ... will try and catch up asap.

debris4spike: (Dragonball)
It was lovely on Saturday to take Mum, Dad & Jiffy to Nick & Brenda's for the day. We had a great time. We had planned to go at the end of the summer, but what I haven't told you all is that my brother lost his job ... so things were very tense then. He is still out of work, but I am pleased to say he is more relaxed than I expected ... I do worry about him as he is an over-weight smoker ... and we have a history of Strokes in the family. So it was good to see him more relaxed than I expected ....Dinner time )

One thing I do want to share for the non-Brits is Torville & Dean. We had a big BBC fund raiser on Friday night and Torville & Dean and arranged to dance with 2 of the pros from Strictly Come Dancing ... Amazing.

And, last but not least, Happy Birthday, today [livejournal.com profile] crimson_newmoon

Decorating!

I have had a quiet start to my week, so decided to be positive and start decorating my lounge.  For those who remember I had some water damage to the ceiling soon after I moved in due to the poor bathroom.  So that has been my excuse to ignore the state ... it needs to dry.  But I really want to get on and get it done.  So the ceiling is painted, half the woodwork, and about 1/4 of the walls.  There is quite a bit of furniture in there - cabinets as well as the settee and seat, so it's a case of doing a corner at a time.  Not the traditional way, but it works!

Anyway, I have had enough ... one disadvantage of being single, no one to work with, so I get fed up easily!

Oh well, yesterday I also got my fridge/freezer defrosted in my spare time, so that was good.

Also a good clarinet practice done.  I am playing again in a concert in Bude in September.  What I haven't told you is that I have had to replace my clarinet, and even though I got a second-hand one, that was money I was not expecting to have to pay out ... so my bank balance is more than empty (thank you Mummy for the loan!)

On a final note before I get back to some more work (... not that I shall do much more today! ), I thought you might like to see this picture of my brother Nick and his family.  We don't usually get pictures of him, let alone everyone together - it was taken by my eldest nephew's girlfriend while they were all on holiday last week.

And for those who don't know, my brother is almost 5 years younger than me ... that picture made me feel truly ancient!

I realise that some weeks ago I promised you whatever pictures you wanted, and quite a few asked me if I had ever been a bridesmaid ...Yes!

2)  1990 - In Plymouth, Devon, for Claire.  I was her Chief Bridesmaid.

3)  1992 - In Croydon, London, for Brenda.  I was a Bridesmaid.

We had a wonderful day on Saturday ... the food went well, everyone made the effort to spend time with M&D (including the younger boys) ... and even the weather behave do we could get some pictures outside.

All in all Mum & Dad felt that it was lovely, so that was the main thing.

Nick got the 4 boys to read out some facts about 1952 and 2012, and Andrew said a prayer of dedication, as well as the 4 of them singing a hymn -

Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided,
urged and inspired us, cheered us on our way,
sought us and saved us, pardoned and provided:
Lord for the years, we bring our thanks today.

That truly made M&D's day.

Tim read an inspirational story about faith, and both Mum and Dad talked about some of the "weird" family history.

They loved the vase, and later admitted they were glad we had done it.  We had all bought plants for the garden as extra gifts, and I had also had a tree planted in Northamptonshire (the county they married in), as there are some re-planting programmes going on at present.  It is a field maple, which is a native to England, but has a family link as Mum's Mum was actually born in Canada.

Anyway, words can't really sum up the day - just to say it went really well - and here are a few of the family pictures from the day -

Here is the rabble )
