Day 31 → best moment of the month

I think, as ever, each month, and possibly each day, has a few special moments.

* I enjoyed all my mince pies ... I love them!

* It was good playing board games with Brenda and my 4 nephews on Boxing Day.

* I enjoyed the Nativity service at Exeter Cathedral. It was great to see this lovely old building full of families ... and animals!

(Thanks Tim for the photos)
So there are a couple of things that made December fun.

This has been a good meme, and it's been good to see that others have snagged.

Day 29 → talk about things you are excited for next year

  • I hope to get to visit [livejournal.com profile] deborahw37 ... so great to see a lovely lady, and a different part of the country.

  • It's Auntie Joyce's 90th in January, so weather permitting Jiffy & I shall go there.

  • I plan to go back to London in November again.

Day 30 → a list of what you got for your winter holiday

For me winter holiday is Christmas ... and Santa visited Jiffy and myself.  What I found under the tree included -

  • 3 boxes of chocs, and some other individual chocs

  • A complete set of Sharpe DVDs

  • Earrings

  • 4 Steve McQueen DVDs

  • A pashmina

  • A pair of slippers

So, even though I had a quiet day I was also a very lucky girl.

Day 28 → your plans for New Years Eve

I always stay up to see in the New Year, last year was the first year by myself, as the previous year I was with Mum & Dad.

This year I shall treat myself to a takeaway at the local chippy, and watch some TV. I shall definately be watching "I'll be home for Christmas", the 1988 version. It's a family tradition - White Christmas on Boxing Day, and I'll be home for New Year's Eve.

I will have sherry, and sing "Auld Lang Sine", then watch the fireworks on TV and then speak to all the family on the phone. One downside of fireworks is that poor Jiffy hates them :(

No New Year resolutions - I did them as a kid and always broke them by 2nd Jan, so now I don't bother!
debris4spike: (Wise Men - Come let us adore Him)
Day 26 → talk about politics or current events this year

I always vote, whatever the year, and although I have never said I suppose a few people have guessed which side of the government I vote for.

I was very surprised about Brexit - but was also upset that some people wanted a second vote, as I thought that whatever a result, then we would deal with the result. I was incredibly saddened by the hatred that sprung up, as well. Whatever my politics, I have friends from all strands of the government ... no one should have to be murdered (as Jo Cox was), just because we have a difference of opinion.

I am not greatly involved in politics watching - Dad was though. However, again, if that's your choice, I am happy for you.

Day 27 → 3 goals for next year

Well I joined the gym a couple of months ago, so I should have waited and then that could have been #1!!!   Anyway, here are a couple of thoughts

  • Get back to photography

  • Do some more fan-fic writing

  • Practice my clarinet regularily

So, hopefully this time next year I will be able to report back!!

Day 25 → a photo of you and your family

Obviously none this year - but here are a couple from the last few years. This one was taken when we were on holiday in Kos in 2007 ... we went over for a day trip to Turkey

Day 24 → Something which caught your interest this year

As I have already commented I have enjoyed the challenge of the gym.
debris4spike: (Giraffe)
Day 22 → new items you’ve added to collections this year

I don't really collect anything ... well I do have loads of giraffes. My friend bought me another ornament for my birthday, and I bought myself some giraffe earrings.  Thinking about me saying I don't collect them I started adding up how many I have I realised that possibly I do collect them ... I have them all sizes and materials.

But basically I would say I collect family and holiday memorabilia. So seiing as we sold M&D's house I have gained loads of family stuff.
debris4spike: (Spike - LiveJournal)
Day 21 → your favourite websites this year

Well, it still is LJ! Even if I have been a bit MIA this year, I still love it, and miss it when I can't get too involved.

My other website I like is Instagram, although I tend to use a different one called 6tag. But I do like sharing a few photos ... but also looking at other photos, especially ones about travel, or giraffes .... or Westies and other dogs.

The other sites are MSN & BBC news, Wikipedia, ... and eBay, of course.

Day 20 → a picture of you taken over 20 years ago

Last time we did this it was a photo of 10 years ago, and I shared a couple of photos, including one of me aged 4.  Anyway I have 3 photos to share of yours truly ....Me )
debris4spike: (James - Exam time)
Day 19 → what you learned this year

One thing I did learn was that I could actually enjoy going to the gym. Sadly I was really beginning to notice an increase in strength when this bug hit, so haven't been this month ... hope to try to get there for a short time in the next couple of days, or at least have a swim.

I also did a couple of the FurureLearn courses, my favourite of which was about the start of the Quakers. That was certainly interesting, but as ever I forget some of the facts I enjoyed learning!

Day 17 → something that made you happy this year

The department I work for at the hospital have asked me a couple of times if I would like to work full-time for them.. At present I work part-time, via the Bank, so it is really nice to truly know I am appreciated.

Day 18 → your favourite photo this year

Well I love the ones I shared a couple of days ago of myself and Dad laughing. But seeing as I have only shared that a couple of days ago, I thought I would share this one that you haven't seen yet ... and it's topical to the new film release ...

Day 16 → something that made you sad this year

There's an obvious answer here ... becoming an orphan in September. Dad (and Mum) were friends, as well as parents. Although I know they are in Heaven and I will see them again, it's sad not to be able to chat to them, see them, give them a hug (and get a hug back).

The other thing that made me sad is that I still find it impossible to cry for them. I often have found that I find it impossible to cry for my major losses ... but that makes me sad.
debris4spike: (LOL - James)
Day 15 → something that made you laugh this year

Despite my year in general I am a fairly happy person normally.

However Jiffy does keep me amused. Sometimes he looks at me as if I have flipped, and that makes me grin at him!!

However here is photographic evidence of laughter.  Taken on Father's Day I was trying to get Dad to look at the camera ... and it got very silly ... Great memory

debris4spike: (Huh?)
Day 14 → something that made you proud this year

I am totally stumped - so nothing to say
debris4spike: (Iolus)
Day 13 → talk about hobbies this year

I have been very lazy this year. In the past, in evenings, I have done handcraft or jigsaws in the evening, but have ended up drifting. Starting next year I am hoping to get back to those hobbies.

I did join the gym just after Dad died, and until a couple of weeks ago was really enjoying it, which surprised me. However having lost energy with this latest virus I haven't been able to go, but am hoping by the weekend to be able to get there for a short time.
debris4spike: (James - thinky thoughts)
Day 11 → talk about volunteering/charity this year.

I have a few charities that I support on a regular basis, and some others that if I see a tin I put some money in.

Not long after Dad went into care I went on the family committee.  That was good as long as it lasted.  For me it was a case of knowing that I was involved with Dad's care, as much as I could.  But that's all for this year.

Hopefully next year I shall find something I can help with.
debris4spike: (Child)
Day 10 → a photo of you taken over ten years ago

Just to say that the icon is me - 1 year old (in other words in 1962)

Through the years )
debris4spike: (Mum)
Day 09 → talk about art this year

Selling Mum & Dad's house means that we had to have all the belongings sorted, and for that we had a lot of Mum's paintings. Some of them are very special, and luckily we all had different tastes so there were actually no arguments .... thankfully.

When I was in London I went to the National Gallery (pics to come at some point), and it was great to wander through. Some of the viewing I did was that of strolling past, but when I saw something I liked I looked closer.

For both Mum and the gallery one of the things I like are pictures that are "real" ... I like to see what I am looking at, and especially one that has a lot of details.

One of my favourites is Canaletto, and when you look at his work you see what I mean.

debris4spike: (Dragonball)
Day 08 → talk about games this year

Ummm, haven't been to any sport, haven't played Monopoly etc ... so other than patience or Tetris on my tablet, nothing really to talk about here!
debris4spike: (Clarinet.)
Day 07 → talk about music this year

Oooops, was going to post this yesterday and then got distracted when the plumber came to remove the sink and gas hob ready for today ... and didn't get back to LJ

Anyway, as I type this there is an old Christmas CD playing while the kitchen is being worked on.

I haven't really heard much that has really caught my imagination, although I have a clock radio, so wake to music.

I haven't been to any live music, unless singing hymns in Church counts.  Acyually as I typed that I realised it was a lie!!!  I went with Dad to a couple of their sing-along entertainments that he had at his home.  Even got roped into doing the Hokey Cokey with the entertainments officer at one of them!

I haven't been involved in any music either this year, but have decided that next year I want to get back to my clarinet. So am looking into lessons, or something, otherwise I will never practice regularly.
