I Gave Pilates A Go

... Yes, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee's inspiration I gave it a go this morning.  She is always positive about her classes, and I mentioned that I couldn't seem to get motivated she sent me the links to 2 seperate classes within my city.  I contacted both ... and heard nothing.  However in the meantime we have a local community centre so thought I would see if they had anything at all, and went this morning.  So 5 mins walk each way.

I have had confirmation though ... my body co-ordination is literally nothing!  However I will go again, although ironically can't go next week as I am working, but it will be good to actually do something, and Karen seems a nice lady (maybe it's the name that has helped the positive vibes!).

Overall it might not be for me, but at least I am trying something.  So, let's "watch this space"

I have work later, so all in all a busy day ... but busy for good reasons.

Now I must get on -

23 – Peanut Month: do you like peanuts? Peanut butter?
Yes, and yes ... in fact one of the favourite biscuits I make are peanut butter ones!

Right, let's try to catch up with you all

Just A Brief Hi

Work today was busy ... rather than the normal 5 patients we ended up with 7, I don't know how that happened at all. So fun! Mostly nice people, so that makes life a bit easier.

The home for lunch, although a bit later than normal, then off to my weekly short, intense, gym session. Now back here to say "Hi" but as the sun is out, so really it would be nice to sit outside for a short time.

26. Does anything hurt today?
Just got back from my gym session ... so everything!
Actually my ankle musce I tore back in September and re-tore last month is very sore anyway.

Right I must get organised, as I am working later

Midweek Meanderings

debris4spike: (Default)
Well so far it's been a busy day ... and I haven't even gone to work yet (I am due in at 5pm)

It started with a short gym session.  I have been doing these for a few weeks, and overall they are good (even if I can't completely lose the tum!!)  After that I came home via the DIY shop and bought some wood-paint stuff for my fence and shed.  Although I don't need to paint the new fence the other 2 needed doing a couple of years ago.  So I have used a whole bucket thingy and done 2 sides of the shed, and one panel of the fence ... and managed to get a load of it over me, as well!.  It's hot out there, so I was glad to have done that much, and although I know there is a load more to do, I am being a good girl and will do another section on another day.

Now it's after lunch so I am here for a short time, and may even make some icons for a change.  It seems ages since I did that.

As i said, it's work later, so all in all a busy & varied day.

But, before I do other things -

13. When was the last time you had an inspiring conversation? Who was it with?
Nothing long, but a couple of weeks ago Tim & I had quite a "chat".

Right - icons & more photo editing are calling
debris4spike: (Default)
Where have the last couple of days gone?

I have been working each morning & lunchtime. However on Monday I realised I needed to do some shopping. The Lidl near me is good for basics, but some things I really prefer to get at another shop, and for a range of items that's the best option, as well. So Monday I went to Tesco's to get shopping, which ended up taking longer than I expected, so ended up not doing anything when I got back.

Yesterday after work I decided to go to a new gym for a taster session ... and have decided to give that a go for a few months and hopefully it will help me to take "the next step forward" in my healing. When I got back I needed to speak to Auntie Mary, as when I spoke to her a couple of weeks ago she hadn't been very well, and am glad to say that although she has a bad cold she is feeling so much better than she was. When I have done this I really must ring Auntie Joyce to find out how she is doing.

Today, when I got home from work, Tim & Claire had walked over in their lunch hour to look at my fence to see if it was repairable ... but sadly, it's not. 2 of the posts are broken off, but it turns out the wood is rotten ... which means the whole lot will be, so not worth repairing. They have a friend who had a lot of work done, so they are going to give me his number.

Tomorrow I won't be around (thus I am going to be a day ahead) as I am travelling with Claire to meet up with Brenda. We are going to Bristol and are looking at wedding outfits, as Brenda's eldest is getting married this July. So it will be fun ... but a long day.

Now I am back up to date, I think (I will try to answer comments etc later, but I might not make it ... if so, sorry.

But ... before I sign off here ...

21. When was the last time you got to tell someone "I told you so!"?
Yesterday to a member of staff ... although I didn't actually say it to her, as she is one to sulk/bear grudges. But she said I should not have taken a message from a patient as it was nothing to do with her ... however eventually a third person was able to confirm that it was one of her patients.

22. If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?

As I type this I have the Dresden Files on .... who else would you want to narrate anything at all, other than James!

23. Is there something that you're interested in that most people aren't?
All my family & friends think I am mad to like BtVS, Star Trek, Stargate ... iconing ... and even blogging.

24. What was cool when you were young, but really isn't cool now?
Clackers - I loved them, and think I still have the bruises
Short shorts
Hitch-hiking
Cigarettes
Pet rocks
Tupperware parties
Mood rings

Well that last question certainly brought back some fun memories.

Hope that you are all keeping well ... see you Friday x
debris4spike: (Default)
... (but as my brother Tim would say - ) "I wouldn't like to paint it!!

Anyway -

I have managed to get back to the gym this week, twice, so am really pleased to be re-focussing again.  However yesterday while we had a small water break I was talking to one of the ladies, you know the normal about Christmas, although this year it is more of a "can you do something" due to restrictions etc.  Anyway she said she was visiting her daugher, who lived "in the east" ... I asked where and she started with a general town in Suffolk.  I hadn't heard of the town, so she mentioned a town in Essex, which I did know as it's near where my Aunt lives.  So she then went on to mention other towns, which I knew and eventually said the small town that she lived in ... yes I knew that.  She seemed suprised, so I said I grew up in Essex ... and, it turned out we were both born in Ilford, and grew up in Upminster .... so, as I said, "What a small world".  She is a couple of years older than me, so we didn't mmeet (in fact we went to different schools)

I have had a pretty good week overall, having to only sleep on one afternoon.  I have almost finished my card writing, think I have done all my pressie shopping ... so all in all going pretty well.  When I have written this I am going to walk to the post office to get cards sent abroad, so that will be another tick in the box.

This morning I went into Exeter to shop, and met Claire for coffee, which was really lovely ... and we both had a cake, which was super lovely!

Hope that you are all keeping well and safe ... I will try and catch up with you all later today x
debris4spike: (Default)
Let me start with wishing [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee a really lovely day - Happy Birthday.  Hope that you are having a super day, and it's the start of a special year ahead
*hugs*

Well, so much for getting involved in a gymn as part of my routine ... Lockdown starts tomorrow, so classes are cancelled.  They are going online, but my pc is in such a place it is impossible to do that ... and as an old machine/old screen I can't "zoom" ... anyway, I need someone to actual "kick me" to keep going!  So, I have been a good girl and not cancelled the membership but just put it on hold.  Oh well, I will try and do some "proper" local walks.

I am now having a few days off work, as the original plan had been to go to London ... but I cancelled anyway as I hadn't wanted to leave Jiffy, and I love just popping in & out of museums, whereas you were having to book visits etc.  Now, of course, everything will be closed as from tomorrow - so it will be next November before I head there again ... so, sorry [livejournal.com profile] deborahw37 we won't get to meet this year as we have in the past ... pencil in next November!

So I have a few other plans - I need to do my CPR training, as that is out of date (we go annually for a lot of our training), I also am getting my car serviced ... so, all in all exciting!!  I also want to give my kitchen a good clean/sort out.  Removing Jiffy's things has left space, so a re-sort is needed.  I took the unopened tins/treats to a RSPCA shelter yesterday, so am pleased they are going to animals in need.

Well, I had better get on.  I want to do some icons before heading down to do some more work on the crocheted blanket I am making for a Christmas pressie.

Hope you are all well xx

The New Normal

Thank you so much for all your support - it has meant a lot

~~~~
Well I still haven't got caught up with all your news, but will try to next week.  I am trying to get myself into a new routine.
I have decided to do some fitness training at a small gym - this one is small and much prefers you to go to a class as they like to make sure you are not damaging yourself in any way.  For beginners like myself there are only 4 or 5 in a group - so they can really focus on your mobility etc.  The other thing I like is that it is a month by month contract ... so I have decided to join up until Christmas (providing we don't get lock-down), and see how it goes.
As I am now sleeping deaper (I don't have to be aware of Jiffy, in case he needs help) I have been feeling a little better.  Still get tired by the end of the afternoon, but so far I haven't had to actually sleep.  I am going to stick to the 4 short mornings (again dependant on Covid) until Christmas and then re-think.  When I lost Mum & Dad I did receive money, and want to travel ... however I have realised that unless I heal and rest I won't be able to travel as I want.  So working a few hours, with supplements from Mum & Dad is again going to be the way I am heading.
Well I won't get to read much of your news, so if there is anything important I have missed, please let me know.
I do hope that you have a good weekend.
debris4spike: (Gym quote)
... actually posted twice in 2 days! Hope to post again tomorrow with photos, as I have met up with Brenda today and gone to another National Trust property. We were able to avoid the rain while there, but driving home was terrible.
So, watching Strictly Come Dancing now, and typing here ... and will try and do some LJ catch-up, as well.
December 08 → talk about games this year
Huh!
Does it means games I have been to, or have been involved in ... well the answer to both is none. And has been since birth (other than having to play at school, which was not fun, as I was in a bitchy class and so the bruises from a hockey stick had to be seen to be believed)
However I do still go to the gym, so maybe not too bad, after all
debris4spike: (Flashing lights with my name)
So, maybe doing the December Meme will keep me focussed on LJ ... although, at the moment I am mainly avoiding having to sit and write some Christmas cards!!
I had an early gym session this morning, which was a shock to have to set the alarm early on a Saturday, but I am glad I did it ... then this evening I have the Christmas dinner at work. The rest seemed to be super-excited when I was in on Thursday, but I am not a great one for drawn out meals (with loud music in the background) ... and certainly not a dancer. But I have been a good girl and bought a ticket, rather than be my normal hermit-self.
Anyway, the meme ....
December 01 → A photo of you taken this year
 photo AVRO 504 K 4_zpsbgy8x4xk.jpg
I know I have posted a few of me on holidays over the year - but thought this was one I had missed ... taken at The RAF Museum, Hendon. It is an AVRO 504K, used in WWI, for those who wanted to know!
ExpandThe rest of the list )
I know I owe comments ... will try and catch up tomorrow (fingers crossed)
A Random Thought
Friday, February 2nd, 2018 06:22 pm
debris4spike: (Huh?)
I am just wondering - whenever I am at the gym I notice something really weird (well, it is to me). People leave the changing rooms, and some leave the locker wide open ... so if you are not looking and you bend down you can bash your head? Why? I empty my locker then push the door closed ... Huh! People are weird.
Anyway, on a less random vein, I will do the next day of my meme ...
February 2 - Are you superstitious?
No.
(However), Mum had a clock that she had inherited from her grandfather when he died back in 1953. Dad always wound it every Friday evening. When granddad died in 1978 the clock stopped, and it took dad a couple of weeks to start it again. The same when grandma died. (Not the other grandparents though!). A few years before mum died she was very poorly, and her first question was ... is the clock still working!
So, no explanation at all ... but it does make you wonder.
At present it is upstairs and needs a service before I hang it back up ... so will let you know!!
1/1
debris4spike: (Wine glass at sunset)
Well the year, so far, is going well!!
Had a very late night as a lot of locals had a lot of fireworks which really upset Jiffy ... so it was late before we settled.  I have tried twice to take him for a walk, but he is reluctant, so am not pushing him.
I have started my Chronological Bible for this year ... so it's goog to see where some of the books fit in with each other.  Although as it is day 1, I was reading Genesis 1 - 3 ... so no "muddle" yet.
Went to the gym this morning for a 45 minute class, and then swam 10 lengths ... does that mean I don't have to go back for the rest of January??!!  I usually also use the jacuzzi, but it was being cleaned, so a good reason for being out of use.
So to lunch, and now catching up with LJ, as I promised myself.  I have made some scones for tea while I was cooking dinner ... so been busy.
I just hope I manage to keep up with life more this year, and not get knocked out by the bugs ... watch this space.
Anyway, here is a picture that Claire took when they came for lunch last Friday .... Happy New Year from us both!
debris4spike: (Deborah - Portrait of Corage)
Well over the last couple of weeks I have popped in & out, but realise that I actually haven't done a proper update - just the icons that I made.  So decided I would do a quick points update ... and as ever try to be better in the coming days ;)
  • I am back at work now.  Luckily I had booked a couple of random days off over the last couple of weeks, so this way I can catch up.  After a day at work I still feel pretty tired, but am not having problems with working the full 8 hours, so that is good.
  • I went back to the gym this week, and although I only managed 3/4 of a class I still was pleased to be there.  I did 20mins core training yesterday, and boy do I ache!!
  • On Friday my friend Christine & I went to Wells for the day (photos to follow).  Again it was great that I was able to cope with the driving ... as well as the sight-seeing.
  • Poor Jiffy got attacked by a dog from across the road.  We were walking along and it just escaped from it's house and attacked ... luckily Jiffy was un-hurt, although a bit bruised.  I was nervous about taking him out the following day, and I will admit he looks warily at other dogs, but so far has been the same as ever
  • I did take Jiffy for a check-up with Marni and she said he was OK, but has put him on steroids as she is worried that his nerves will increase his itching .... something I certainly don't want him to have to cope with.  Especially with Firework day coming up, and a break for me.
  • Yes, Thursday week I am off to London for a break, and to go to the Cenotaph service ... be prepaired to be photo-spammed!
  • The following weekend to that I shall be going to Clacton again.  My Aunt is not doing well (I had a day trip there 3 weeks ago).  She has never been the easiest of people to deal with ... so being "low", and 90, has made that even worse I am sorry to say.
  • I have actually started a bit of Christmas shopping - but I need to be more organised.  I need to tidy space in my spare room (yes, that project is still hardly started), and then I can know where I am, and what I have, or don't have.
Well, that's about all, I think.  I do hope those whose posts I have missed are doing OK.
High 5 Deborah
debris4spike: (Gym quote)
When I was 11, until I was 18 I did sports 3 ties a week, plus learnt Judo .... and never once did I ever manage ONE press-up.
Today at gym I went to a core-class and did 40 second "plank", then a 10 second gap, before doing the same, with lifting one leg and holding for 5 seconds, then the other leg, then an arm, then the other .... and again.
Yay - high-5 Deborah ... Truly happy with yself.
Happy Star Wars Day
... and, yes, I am looking forward to the next episode at the end of the year.
Well so much for being around more often!  I have managed to keep going at work, get to the gym .... but that's it.  I am very tired, so haven't done much more than snooze in front of the TV in an evening.  Great as when I get in from work, one of the channels has been showing re-runs of Dr Quinn, so that's a good start to relaxation.  I don't always get to see it all as I am walking Jiffy, but as I know the story that's not a problem.
I have Tim & Claire coming over tomorrow for tea.  I haven't seen them since Christmas, so it will be nice to catch up.  Did I tell you Nick & family came here about 10 days ago ... for lunch, and to see Mum & Dad's graves.  We had a good time.
Yet again, I am sorry .... I haven't forgotten you all, and do miss you.  But the brain doesn't catch up too quickly ... sorry.
Happy ANZAC Day
Best wishes to all who remembered this morning at dawn.
Normally on a Tuesday morning I go to the gym before work, but on Saturday evening I pulled my calf muscle, just where I tore it 4 years ago ... it is not happy (and neither am I). So this morning I have made some ANZAC biscuits to take to work this afternoon ... my boss is a Kiwi, and seemed stunned I knew what the date was!
I am then popping out to the shops to get some new shoes to wear to the gym, when I started this I only bought plimsolls as I didn't think I would stick at it, but with old ankle and Achilles injuries I need to be sensible.
I will try to both catch up with replies at some point, and get some photos taken of my conservatory, and other work I've had done.
debris4spike: (Spike - face + body + my name)
As all of you probably know by now we had a terrorist related incident in London, and as ever random people walking through the city are injured or have lost their lives.  It seems small compared with other atrocities, but no doubt is meant to scare people away from the city.
No way - terrorists are not going to run my life ... or my country!
Anyway, enough of politics (etc) not something I usually even mention on LJ.
##########
I keep saying I am back and then disappear!  Last time I picked up a tummy bug (I think the kid who sat in front of me at Church the previous day was ill), and sadly my Chronic Fatigue set back in ... so I somehow lost a week.  I managed to work for 2 days, but that was all.
So, I need to focus, and get back on track.  There is no way I can skim back through your news, and I must yet again apologise that I have been a bad friend (I should get that sentence in the pc memory and that way just fill that line in each time! ).
So what I need to do is do a catch-up post incase any of you remember who I am, and want to know where I am and what I am doing!ExpandIt's all about me - )
I do hope that you are all well ... any news, please let me know.
*group hugs*
debris4spike: (Oooops - Cap'n John)
I owe replies, I haven't caught up with my f-list .... I am just so, so bad!
But I am determined to start catching up, starting today.  In about 1/2 hours time Jiffy and I are heading out to pick up my friend Christine, have a walk and lunch at a doggy friendly place.  I am taking my camera but as the decorator is still in I can't get at my main computer so won't share today .... but will asap.
Anyway, what's up with me?  Not much!
I am having my kitchen painted at present, and yesterday the same painter finished painting my bedroom.  The carpet arrives next week.  So hopefully as the days and weeks now move on I shall be able to start packing things away in their permenant homes.  I have decided to have a sunlounge off my kitchen, so there is that to confirm and book ... and then the only thing I will eventually need is a new lounge carpet and the room painted.
No further on my holiday plans, as I am waiting for Annemarie to confirm the dates with her.  So annoying, as I dare-say flights, etc will be going up in price.   So am still at the vague point of Oregon - LA - San Fransisco - Visiting a friend in Missouri.  Will update, when I can.
Jiffy is doing well - slightly confused by stuff being moved around all the time, so it will be nice to get him settled again.
Having been a bit on-off with the gym, I have gone twice last week, already once this week, and booked for a class on Friday.
I have had a week or two of drifting, but I am determined to get myself back on track.  I will catch up with comments, re-post a gift I owe (!), and try to keep up to date with all your journals.  Bear with me - I will get there!
Well I had better get on and get Jiffy ready.
I know I have missed a few birthdays over this last week sorry - but on the day that would have been Mum's 89th birthday, I do hope you had a good day, and the year ahead is special.
Be back later *hugs*
365 Meme Day 22
What was the last new thing you tried?
Easy - I started at the gym back in October.
The list of 365 questions can be found here
###
Just a point of history ... Queen Victoria died 116 years ago today ... In other words, Happy 116th birthday Grandma! All my Grandparents were Victorians, but this one (the youngest) only had a few hours of being so before the Queen died. My Grandmother had an extra name added to her ... Ada VICTORIA Frances!!
What mood were you in today?
Pretty good.
  • I heard back from Annemarie, and it looks as if plans can be made for my USA trip.
  • I went to the gym, and although wasn't there long had a good time.
  • Jiffy had a good walk this morning ... this week has been tough as two vet visits (he likes them, but sad they had to happen).. An ear infection, then a cut paw. But today he was doing well
The list of 365 questions can be found here
debris4spike: (Gym quote)
A few of my friends have done posts reminding us at that despite problems and upsets, there are still so many positive things, so I am going to try a positive post a week.
Yesterday I went to the gym, and my trainer has increased the number of repeats on all my programme!  There was one that I reduced the weight for on the last rep as I was struggling, but other than that I managed (just).  However what really cheered me up was that I always finish with a swim and jacuzzi.  As I was swimming I actually counted the lengths and realised that back in October the first time I went I only swam ... and only managed 4 lengths, a gap, and another 4.  Yesterday, after an increased workout, I swam 10 lengths, and actually could probably have done a bit more ... so, great, my stamina is much improved already.
Back to work this afternoon after 6 weeks off.  Still coughing, and catching my breath, but I am doing an "ignore and see" ... so for me, that's a positive way forward!  Having had a lifetime of chest problems at least my doctor accepts that I will struggle from time to time ... so we are seeing how things go.
And finally, had a great walk with Jiffy this morning.  He has been a bit sluggish, which worried me, I put his older jumper on him, and whether it was that, or just he is feeling better, he enjoyed himself ... and it was great walking across frosty land.
Well I must get on, as I need to get an early lunch and change ready for work.
