Welcome December

Wow, as quickly as I feel I am getting slightly better, I realise that I am not progressing as fast as I hoped. When I have a good day I try to get a few things done, and really try to restrict what I do to protect my leg ... but then really suffer later.

However I am totally off the pain killers now ... so that's positive. The leg is constantly aching, but is no worse now the pills are gone, so decided it was sensible to stop them.

The leg still has no strength at all ... so the crutches are there, and even though my physio wants me to learn to use them in a different way so there's more pressure on the leg, rather than the arms. However I still fibd, after a short distance, I am really limping badly. So, over the weekend I opted out of trying and walked as I had been on my daily walks.

I actually managed to get some Christmas shopping done - bits and pieces on a couple of days ... on one of the days I actually bumped into Claire, as well, so we had a cuppa.

On Saturday (don't tell Mum), but I made Mince Pies ... Mum wouldn't let us have them until Christmas Day itself!!

Then in the afternoon I walked into the hospital to see the volunteer who had emergency spinal surgery a month before my injury, if you remember. He is really progressing ... in fact while I was there we had a walk together ... we must have made a great couple with him using a frame, and myself on crutches. he is still negative about things, and I found myself being positive about how far he had come ... which made me smile, as I realised I was saying things to him that people keep saying to me!

Sunday I watched "Church Online" ... I still have no idea when I will be able to drive again. But, since Covid, most Churches do the online services, not the same, but still good, Other than that it was a slow walk, and a lazy day.

Now we are in December ... I need to sort out what pressies I still need to buy, as we have the family get-together on Saturday ... and want to start sorting out my decorations.

So -

27. Have you ever slept in socks at night?
No – I like having cold feet.

28. November is part of World Vegan Month – have you tried any vegan food this month?
No – I am a meat eater

29. What types of fruit do you always have in the house to eat?
Oranges, apples … and often grapes.

30. Do you have any special plans for December?
Getting back to work!!

DECEMBER
1. Do you use serviettes/napkins when you eat, or are they just for fancy meals/when you have guests?
Always have paper serviettes on the table, and usually use one.

Right, I need to post a prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger as it's my month ... and then see if I can catch up with you all
debris4spike: (Default)
Wow, I had plnned to be here earlier, but things always take longer?  I was busy with some housework ... I have made a large pot of beef "base" to then eat with pasta, potatoes, etc ... so a portion for soon, and the rest portioned and froze.  I did some cleaning, as well.  I probably should not have done that as I am meant to be taking things slowly.  I promise to be a good girl tomorrow!

I am going into work again later.

I had a good day yesterday but speaking to the security team on duty (they are next to me), they had a truly stressful day, so was glad I was unaware of the 2 scenarios that I missed.

I haven't sorted out the photos fom Satuday, but am almost up to date with my A to Z  (I am still missing Z, A & B) ... but here are the missing ones othere than that -

Week 25 – Jun 15 Y is for YEAR
DSC_4132
This is a perpetual calender ancient Egypt style.  We had it explained to s on 2 or 3 locations, and it all made sense at the time, now, not at all!  The hyroglyphs to the left spell Deborah.

Week 29 – Jul 13 C is for CURL
DSC_4133
My latest giraffes ... a birthday present with their necks curled around each other.

Week 30 – Jul 20 D is for DECK
DSC_4128
When I was 10 Mum & Dad bought me this deck of cards, and for years it was the pack I always used.  Now just kept stored in the tin.

Week 31 – Jul 27 E is for EYES
DSC_4131

DSC_4130
Sadly I don't know their names.  They were always on a chair in Mum & Dad's spare room, and I know Mum had given them names.  Now they sit on the cabinet in my lounge ... but, yes, their eyes certainly pop out at me.  The dolls are 1930's ... or earlier.

Week 32 – Aug 3 F is for FAKE
DSC_4187
When Mum as 80 friends bought her the pictures, and I bought her the frame with a photo of the 5 of us ... it is now in my spare room.

So that's me almost up to date ... now I need to get the rest of the photos sorted, so I shall do todays question and get on -

12. Do you own any sunglasses (and if you have prescription glasses, do you have prescription sunglasses too)?

Yes - and yes.
My ordinary glasses are reactolite, as well.
As my damaged eye has no light reaction left on the retina I have to protect my eye.

Right - let's get on x

Friday, June 6th, 2025 11:07 am
debris4spike: (Default)
81 years ago the Allies landed in Northern France.

One of my friends landed on Gold beach.  He was such a lovely man, who I used to meet every year at a Remebrance Day service in London.  One of my treasures is actually the Sweetheart Broach he gave his wife when he went to war in the beginning of 1940.  He had twin daughters and apparently they wanted me to have it, as they knew we were good friends.  So special.  Another friend landed on +3, and was always talking about that!

Dad was in London working on the docks and saw much of the activity up to a few days before the 6th June.  Mum was in the middle of England and until the end of May was aware of a lot of transport heading south ... then nothing!

It is good to remember small events on a big day of history.

~ ~ ~

I ended up having a lazy morning before work yesterday, but today am being busy ... done some housework, as well as made some ginger biscuits.

After lunch I am yet again heading into work. Hopefully it will be as good as shift as yesterday. On Wednesday afternoon, despite it being only a short shift, it was chaos, so I was certainly glad to get home!

So, before I head out -

5. When you visit somewhere new, do you research anything about the area?
Yes
I love, love, love sightseeing ... so nice to know what's worth seeing, as well as the basic history of the area.

6. Do you have a membership to any local organisations (e.g. gym, museum, art gallery, local group, etc)? How often do you use your membership (and what’s the advantage of having it?)
Not a local one, but a national one - National Trust. I ususally use it 5 - 15 times a year. Even visiting the local houses there is always something new to see.

Right, I want to make some icons if I can

A Quick Catch-Up

I know, the weekend got away from me!

My day with Claire turned out to be totally different than we had planned. Their neighbours (not the ones that caused problems 2 years ago), have caused them a total nightmare. They are having a new roof, and when Claire got home on Wednesday lunchtime, she found that the roofer had removed about 2 foot of their roof … the explanation is that the tiles looked uneven. So Claire contacted Tim, and he spoke to a colleague who put legal things in place. Why it’s happened is still a mystery … as Tim & Claire said they had no problems with their roof, and this was totally wrong whichever way you look at it.

So I went round and the morning was letting Claire talk, and talk, and talk ... we had lunch and then she and I made the most of the lovely afternoon, doing some gardening, then sitting on the patio with a drink, while waiting for Tim to finish work. We then walked into Exeter and they treated me to a meal, before heading home.

What a nightmare for them.

Friday I had a lazy morning before going into work, and Saturday I was a good girl - housework, housework, and I made soem ANZAC biscuits (which I should have made the previous day)
istockphoto-939484090-612x612

Sunday, was Sunday!

Apparently I am ahead with the A to Z ... so that's why it's missing today.

This is just a quick catch-up before I head into work -

25. Do you ever watch the birds in nature? Can you identify any by their song or by their appearance?
Mum and Dad usually had blue tits nesting in their box on the wall, and it was lovely to see them in and out of their home.

Tim & Claire have a lot of bird feeders that get very popular.
So, yes, I have watched them in gardens, but despite living opposite a bird sanctuary for years, that’s the limit of my bird watching.

26. What colour is the sky right now?
Blue … today is the 28th, though.

27. If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would that be?
Sorry, but it’s everything! I am not a person who can look in a mirror at all.

28. In 1761 Marie Harel was born – a French cheesemaker credited with the invention of Camembert. Are you a fan of this type of cheese?
No, although haven’t tried much of it … so maybe that’s a project for the future!

Right, I will catch up properly tomorrow!
debris4spike: (Default)
This morning I have made some gingerbread biscuits ... I don't make "men", just circular ones.  But hopefully they taste as good as they look.

I then decided I would have a lazy rest of the morning ... but did need to collect my bin from up the road ... and although careful I still managed to catch my foot on a small patch of ice ... and now have a wet backside!!! Luckily I am "well padded" ... and even luckier no one saw my fall.

So, let's get this week finished and start again next week!

I am hoping to get some cleaning done, but not as much as I planned to do as I am still tired, and the chest infection still lingers.

But, hopefully will get some icons made today, as that is relaxing, but I do need to get a few done soon-ish.  So that will keep be out of mischief.

I also want to catch up with Auntie Mary ... that had been a plan for yesterday, but she had visitors, so will try this afternoon and hopefully will get to chat with her.

But ....

22. Have you ever handmade decorations for your home for a seasonal holiday/celebration?/i>

In my previous house I made a star of coat hangers, tinsels and lights for my front window.
When I was a kid we always made "paper chains"

Right, will try and catch up with you later - but, if not, I will try tomorrow (I promise)
debris4spike: (Default)
That was a nice, but busy weekemd ... and somehow I realise I never turned the computer on before I headed off to work.

Hope that you all had a good weekemd.

Not that there is anything specific I can talk about, as the Saturday morning just seemed to drift past ... and then it was time for work.

Today I had planned to catch up with Brenda, but neither of us were feeling 100% so we decided to postpone the trip.  That's one advantage of "special" people, you can cancel plans and it doesn't upset anyone.

Now I am here, briefly ... I am actually planning to make some biscuits in a moment (I am on a real baking kick, at present!)

So -

2. In 1983 Michael Jackson released ‘Thriller’ – have you seen the 14-minute video?
Yes, Nick was a great fan, so saw it all the way through at the time … as well as sections of it off and on after that.

3. Is there anything you have seen on TV or a streaming service that you have enjoyed this year and would recommend that other people watch?
I don’t tend to watch much TV as such … I enjoy old DVDs.
However, I do love the present (& past) series of Australian Lego Masters
The Present Season being shown

4. On this day in 1922 Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun – have you ever seen any of the treasures?
Oh yes …. I was in the Cairo Museum in February. Amazing

Right, see you tomorrow x
debris4spike: (Default)
.... I mean, what happened to the rest of the year?

I decided to have an internet free day yesterday - and actually did a through clean of one of my display cabinets.  I have 2 large cabinets in my lounge, and to say they are full is an under-statement.  So the smaller of the 2 is now clean ... everything was taken out and clean, although I didn't clean the silver/brass ... so I suppose I would say a 95% success.  However I am happy with that.

At present the house smells lovely as I have just got a ginger cake out of the oven ... just hope that it tastes as good as it smells!  (Yes, I have been watching Bake Off)

Now I have more cleaning to do, although whether I start on cabinet #2 is questionable (maybe I will just do the exposed surfaces, and leave the actual cabinet for another day!

But, before I go -

31. Hallowe’en or All Hallows' Eve is today. Have you ever played traditional games like bobbing for apples on Hallowe’en?

The only time I have done anything for Halloween were the couple of years I was working at a riding stables … yes, we had apple bobbing, which I am no good at!!!

1. Today is the start of Deepawali (also known as Diwali) - the Hindu Festival of Light. Have you ever seen any rangoli made of flowers/coloured sand/coloured rice etc?

No

Right, I shall get on.

I have to vote on an icon comp I was in, so will pop over to DW to do that ... then check up on whatever you are all doing.

How Odd

Friday, August 9th, 2024 02:13 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
... Honestly I thought that the patients coming into the hospital ask some very odd questions.  Well this morning i had an even bigger bit of oddity .... I answered the phone to find it was our Switchboard ... and they actually asked me for the phone number of one of the departments!  Huh!!!!   That's the job of switchboard, surely???

Oh well, at least it keeps me amused ... fills the shift out!

Now I am here, I want to get some baking & housework done.  I have Brenda coming for a few days next week, so want to try and get organised (if I can!).

So -

11. Enid Blyton, children’s author was born today in 1897. Have you ever read any of her books?
Her Mallory Towers series was the first "real" set of books I read for myself ... and re-read.

Right, I must go and cook x
debris4spike: (Default)
This morning I did a short walk, collected my prescription ... and picked up a bottle of milk.

Then, once home, made some lemon biscuits ... I bought lemons for the pancakes yesterday, so it was nice to make the biscuits. Tomorrow I am spending most of the day with Claire, while Tim is at work, so there will be fresh biscuits for him as a treat.

So, as you can see, that even though it's another grey day, there are some beautiful spring colours around -

14th February (2)

14th February (1)

14th February (3)

And, so I am up to date, and as I said I am out for a lot of tomorrow -

14. International Book giving day - do you like giving books as gifts? When was the last time you did that?
Downstairs I have Christine's birthday pressies all wrapped and ready to give to her next week - and there are 2 books in the bag! One of which is about the late Queem, and the other is a guide book of Scotland ... a country she hopes to visit next year.

15. National Flag of Canada Day - are you any good at vexillology (the study of flags) - or do you struggle to identify different flags?
Yes, I recognise Canada's ... and ours. USA is OK, and so are Switzerland & Malta .... but so many European flags are 3 stripes of colours, and I get confused. Africa & South America are certainly a no-go for my flag recognition.

Right, that's me sorted x
debris4spike: (Default)
Mum was an amazing cook ... wish I was half as good. However she had a rule about mince pies ... first one was Christmas Day, and all had to be gone by 12th night. Sorry Mum, but I love them, so the first batch are cooling as we speak! Yes, after lunch I made a dozen of them ... and will make some more once these have gone.

Work was slow this morning ... only 4 of the patients turned up, and one of those we sent home without doing the test! However, as often happens, fewer patients mean a longer clinic!

So now I want to get some Christmas cards written ... so

1 – Cookie Cutter Day: Do you own any cookie cutters? Any unusual ones? Tell us about them.
I have a couple of sets of traditional ones … as well as assorted shapes ready for Christmas, or Birthday

Right see you soon x
debris4spike: (Default)
Technically it was on Thursday, but it was also 60 years ago tonight that Dr Whos Tardis arrived on Planet Earth for the first time.  We didn't have a TV 60 years ago, however Mum & Dad's closest friends did.  They had a girl my age, and a boy 3 years older ... we used to often go there for Saturday evening tea (& they used to come to us, as well).

So, yes, my first memory is of their lounge, and hiding behind the sofa with Stephanie ... we weren't meant to be see it, but Malcolm could ... so, we used to sneak in anyway!!  It was definately the first Doctor, William Hartnell, but probably the second season that would bring the memories, as I would have been 3 - 4.

So, we are now up to Doctor #14, or is it #10, and there is a mini-series starting tonight ... and, yes, I shall be there.  However on the sofa this time, not behind it!!

This morning I have made some cheese scones for tea ... and some to put in the freezer for another day.

Now I have ironing to do, and still haven't finished writing up my holiday journal, so that's part of the plan for this afternoon.

So, before I post this -

25 – Shopping Reminder Day: Shopping Reminder Day falls roughly a month before Christmas, and as such it’s the perfect reminder to go ahead and get started on all of your holiday shopping. How do you feel about holiday shopping? Do you need a reminder to go shopping for holiday gifts?
I have never needed a reminder, as it would have been Dad's birthday on Monday ... and 3 of my 4 nephews have birthdays next week. So as I start thinking of those I end up automatically thinking Christmas.

26 – Cake Day: Cake or pie? Or something else?
Yes please!!!
Either/both.
However for me pie is "pudding" after a meal, and cake is for tea meals, or snacks (just look at the waistline and you would know that!)

Right, let's get this posted ... it's good to be organised for the weekend ... see you Monday x
debris4spike: (Default)
I have just got bread out of the bread maker ... and have had a great walk with my friend from work.  It was dry, and cool when we started, but as we walked it got fairly warm ... yes, there were a lot of uphills!  But it was good to see her, and to hear she is doing a lot better than she has been.  Although I did remind her not to head back to work too soon, but to be honest with herself (and her doctor).

While I was on holiday the other member of the clinic has booked in a few extra clinics, so I have gained as he text me and I can do them ... so great news.

I am working this evening on the reception ... I have a couple of shifts this week, as one of the members of full-time staff is on leave.

So all in all, not a busy, busy week, but enough to keep me out of mischief and the bank balance happy.

So, I shall get some more photos up before I head into work ... and before I sign off here ...

16 – Liqueur Day: Amaretto! Grand Marnier! Kahlua! Creme de Menthe! A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit. Distillers flavor the spirit with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers, or nuts. They may have fallen out of favour due to the increasingly broad selection of spirits available in seasonal, fragrant, and often curious flavors (vodkas and rums in particular), but they haven't disappeared. Have you ever had a liqueur? Do you have a favourite?
Mum & Dad loved Grand Marnier .... but I prefer a Creme de Menth, or Ouzo
My brother Tim has introduced me to Gin Cocktails ... and some Vodka ones. And sadly for my liver, there are very few I don't like!

Right, I must get one and get something to eat ... see you later x
debris4spike: (Default)
What a busy morning - had a lovely walk in the sunshine this morning, and then got organised as I am having Tim & Claire over for dinner tonight.  We are having a pork casserole, and I have made some jam tarts, but also bought a roulade ( yes, I cheated ... but why not?)

I can't believe it has been 8 years since Mum was called Home. It was lovely to see some Autumn colour near where she is resting this morning.  The cemetery is a beautiful location, and even if you don't know anyone resting here, it is a lovely place for a walk.  During lockdown it was always busy!

Right, so I had better get my kitchen floor cleaned.  I love cooking but am not the tidiest chef alive. My cookery teacher at school always said that my area looked like a bomb site! And especially with flour, which I needed, it get's everywhere!

So, before I head off -

29 – Ask A Stupid Question Day: There's no such thing as a stupid question except for the one you choose not to ask. When you were in school, did you hesitate to ask questions because you were afraid they were stupid questions? Did you make fun of other students who asked questions that struck you as stupid? As an adult, do you still hesitate to ask questions you think are stupid? Do you find yourself secretly hoping someone else will ask the question so you won't have to?
Actually I always hoped they would get asked, as I wasn’t brave enough to ask questions in class.

Right will catch up with you soon, and then again tomorrow x

Happy Star Wars Day

Thursday, May 4th, 2023 11:53 am
debris4spike: (Default)
May-the-4th-be-with-you-Dia-de-Star-Wars-Por-que-se-celebra-1

Well I have voted, made some biscuits ... and now here before heading off to work again.

My leg is sore, but healing.  I somehow managed to do a partial tear of a muscle overnight, which is where I was hopping so badly yesterday ... it must have been a good(/bad) dream, or something!  My osteopath just laughed as he said he remembered me last year that I have managed to injure myself in odd ways in the past!

So I must get some lunch organised ... sorry that I am really going to be MIA over all, as I am working full time tomorrow, and then on Coronation Day I have more baking to do before getting to T&C's early, so that will be a long day as well.  Hopefully I will have 5 mins to say Hi, before the day takes over ... but if not, I will see you Monday.

As I am hoping to pop in Saturday I shall just do the 2 days ...

4 – Petite and Proud Day: Petite is used to describe a person about or under 162 cm / 5'4". Are you petite? Do you think petite women maybe have an easier time of it than short men? Would you (or have you) dated someone shorter than you?
I am "average" at 5'6"(ish) ... although compared with Harry Dresden I am short!

5 – Space Day: Ever wondered what lies beyond our skies? Do you think we'll ever have permanent human settlements on the moon, or on Mars?
I love sci fi ... but I think in reality it probably won't happen.

Right, let's get on x

Day Off , But Lots To Do

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 01:57 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
Although I have a day off it's not too restful, so far.  I have made some things and put in the freezer ready to cook (very) early on Saturday morning ... as we are having a family get-together to see the Coronation.  So I am making some nibbles, and we are having a late buffet ... so it will be good fun, but lots to sort out pre the day.  (Before I go to work tomorrow I shall make some biscuits to take with me as well.)

I ahve also put up my new bunting, so I now have a very dark lounge, but worth it to show that I am a Royalist, as sadly it's not something that always seems popular.
1683111250051

I had hoped to sort out my sunlounge as well today, but that will be a job for next week.  I am fighting a chest virus, and so far it's not winning, so I am not going to push!  Also I have really flared my ankle injury up, somehow, and have managed to get a late appointment with my osteopath for this afternoon.

As I worked all day yesterday I didn't get the question done ... so here is catch up -

2 – Bike Month: Do you cycle? If yes, do you do it mostly for fun/occasional outings, or is it your main mode of transportation? Does your municipality have good cycling infrastructure? Do you cycle year-round, even in winter (and in the snow if you get snow where you live)?
I have never been a keen cyclist, but having been run over while on a bike didn't help that love at all.  After the RTA I did a lot of cycling but was never ever happy on a bike.  I have tried a couple of times in recent years and realsied that I ended up so tense that I was actually sore ... so, won't bother again.

3 – Write a Review Day: Do you write reviews for products or services (e.g. reviews on Amazon, or on a restaurant's or shop's website)? Do you do this regularly, or only if you're particularly happy or dissatisfied with the product or service? Whether or not you write reviews, do you read reviews left by others to help your decision-making process? Do you find negative reviews more helpful than positive ones?
I don't tend to read, or write, reviews ... although have done the latter for family & friends to support them

Right, let's put the kettle on, and have asome lazy moments to relax.

Hope you are all doing well x

Monday, Again

Monday, April 24th, 2023 02:47 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
... And, so far, a busy day.

Washing done, shopping done (I was running out of all sorts of things, so went by car rather than walk/bus), and I have made a batch of ANZAC biscuits, as it's ANZAC Day tomorrow and I am working all day.  In the morning the clinic I work in is used to my annual gift ... one of the guys in an allied clinic is a Kiwi, so it's now an annual gift for him, and the rest of the team.
2022-anzac-day-scaled

So now I have ironing to do, and amhoping to make a couple of icons before I head downstairs to do that.

24 – Firefly Day: Not the insect but the short lived TV programme! Were you a fan of Firefly or did it pass you by? If you have no interest in it have you ever seen a real Firefly?

Saw some of it - but didn't get it

25 – World Penguin Day: How would you celebrate world penguin day?

I work with someone who loves penguins ... so wonder if she will do anything, but it passes me by.
debris4spike: (Default)
So much for my plans - I had aimed to actually "go" somewhere and have a nice walk ... but although I shall have a walk in a moment it won't be as long, and it will be local.  Oh well, still it will be nice to get out and about for a short time.

I have a cake in the oven - a chocolate one.  The weird thing is Mum used to make a chocolate cake regularily and although I have all her recipe books I haven't worked out which was the recipe she used.  Or, maybe I am using the correct one, and just not as good a baker as Mum (who was amazing at making cakes rise, and taste truly scrummy).

I didn't get the ironing done, in the end, so a task for when I get back from my stroll.

Now I must get the drying-up done and packed away before I get the cakes onto the cooling tray ... so am off. But before I turn off the pc ...

11 – Make a Friend Day: How easy is it for you to make friends? Do you have many casual friends, or just one or two close friends?
Very few friends of any type. One very close friend, and a few good friends. But that's about it - although I work in a friendly atmosphere I never get asked to socialise when they go out as a group.

12 – World Marriage Day: In your opinion, is marriage an outdated institution or has it stood the test of time? Should we seek to preserve it, or might there be a better alternative for committed couples?

Sorry but I am old-fashioned. I like to see the committment. And, with my faith I don't like the concept of sex before/outside marriage (although I suppose personally I have never met anyone who has made me test that theory!)

Have a great weekend - will catch up with you all on Monday x
debris4spike: (Default)
I certainly clocked up some hours at work last week, and in the end when I got in from work yesterday lunchtime I was feeling vert tired ... so decided to actually have a lazy & "nothing" afternoon. All my work shifts went well, although as ever there were a few odd-ball questions I had to answer. Where I work when on reception there are often volunteers around, and they have all been given polo shirts to wear, but that has caused problems ... some don't want to wear theem, some hate the colour, etc etc ... so what seemed a good idea is not working out that way in the end.

The family are all keeping well ... although Auntie Joyce wants to go back home, and has threatened to get a taxi to take her. So that is something I need to sort out in the near future, one way or the other. Nephew #3 has let me know that he is now a qualified accountant ... I am very proud of him, as he passed all his exams first time. He decided to not go to Uni, but to do this while working ... so it means he doesn't have huge bills now to pay back. Claire & Nick have birthdays this week, so all in all lots of family events.

Right, I want to make a cake this afternoon, so will get on with that. But before I head downstairs -

27 – Fun at Work Day: Do you think work should be fun? How much fun do you expect to have at work?
I work in a hospital ... but most shifts manage to have a great laugh over something.

28 – Global Community Engagement Day: Do you feel engaged with your community? How important do you think it is to feel that you belong in your community?
No - but there again, I never have, so don't worry about that at all.

29 – Curmudgeons' Day: What is a curmudgeon? Do you know any curmudgeons? What do you think of them? Today is also Freethinkers' Day. Do you think a curmudgeon might be just a freethinker?
I don't think I know any curmudgeons, although a few people I know have a bit of curmudgeon in them! To me, freethinkers are more relaxed, so no I don't think curmudgeons are freethinkers.

30 – Bubble Wrap Day: Does bubble wrap deserve its own day? Why or why not?
Eveything has it's own day ... so, why not. It is useful.

31 – Backward Day: National Backward Day is a fun day that encourages us to do things in an order that we would not usually do them in! Have you ever taken part in a backward day? How did it go?

I didn't even know there was a backward day ... but I suppose like most people I am a creature of habit.

Right - Mum's cookery book is calling me.

I will try & catch up with you all a bit later x

Washing is haanging up ... I am lucky that I live in a 3 story house, so that means I can hang the washing from the banisters going up to that floor ... washing dries and airs through fairly quickly ... so, by this afternoon I shall be able to get ironed ... so I won't look like a Chinese Laundry for too long!

I also have a ginger cake in the oven ... and have brought my timer upstairs, as last time I made a cake a forgot that, and it ended up a lot drier than planned.

I aim to get another cupboard sorted in my bedroom, and hopefully in my kitchen as well.  Another task to do soon is to sort out my driving licence.  I had thought that it only had to be renewed when I was 70 (and I am not that, honest!).  But I used it for ID last week only to find it has been out of date for a year ... so I need to get it sorted.  When I went to the opticians last week I got the photos done, so I need to get it sorted out.

And, of course, there are icons to make if I get any other spare time!  (Not to forget I need to phone Auntie Joyce and see how she is).

Right, let's get on ...

18 – Thesaurus Day: Do you own a thesaurus? How often do you consult a thesaurus to find just the right word?
Yes - and yes. When I am re-reading some of my own fan fics I do see if there are any repetative words in paragraphs, and see if I can change them.

19 – Popcorn Day: Do you like popcorn? What is your favourite topping for popcorn? Or do you prefer it plain?
Not a great fan ... but as I'm allergic to butter, I just have to go with salt (and, yes, I actually like salty flavours)

I realise I need to make myself something baking when I am doing icons at some point

Right, will catch up with you all later x

I had to confirm that I want the jewellers to go ahead with my necklace repair.    Dad bought Mum a pearl necklace for their Pearl Wedding Anniversary in 1982, and was one of the few things that didn't get taken in a burglary about 10 years later, as she was wearing it ... in fact she wore it a lot.  As pearl is my birthstone (and I love it), I have worn it a lot.  However last week the string broke ... but luckily for me it was a knotted string, so didn't lose any of the pearls.  I took it into the jewellers when I was in on Monday, but they had to confirm the quote.

I then had to confirm another order ... so phone calls doen.

After that I did 2 batch bakes ... one a sausage and potatoe bake, and the other minced beef with tomatoes & onions ... so they are cooling ready to divide and freeze.  My friend Christine does not cook at all (she buys ready meals) ... but to me she msses so much (not just the extra money it costs), but to be able to add, or not, flavours.  To make the portion size what you want, etc, etc.  I have a couple of ready meals in the freezer, as well, as sometimes I have a long day at work and it is easy ... but that is a once a month idea.

Yesterday at work was good ... a nice shift.  I was in the main reception desk, which is in the main foyer area of the hospital, so even if not speaking to people and answering enquieries, it is good for people watching.  I know I am not the most fashionable of people, but I do wonder about some people's sense of style.  I did smile though when I saw one of the stretchers being taken out ... the ambulance crew were obviously taking the lady back to her home ... what made me smile was the lady being pushed was sitting up ... and eating.  Yes, she had a hospital bowl, so obviously dinner had been served and she didn't want to miss her pudding, so took it with her ... Good for her.

Right, I am going to sort some birthday pressies out for my nephews.  3 of them have birthdays next week, and had planned to post them today, but as there is a Postal strike, I won't be able to post them until Saturday.  But I want to get them sorted so I don't have to focus on that in a couple of days time.

And - as ever -

23. If, in a multi-story building, you only have to go up or down one or two flights, would you prefer to use the stairs rather than an elevator?
Staires - quicker than waiting for the lift ... and good for the leg muscles.

24. Is there some old family belief, practice, routine or tradition that you know is nonsensical, but you still catch yourself doing it anyway?
No washing on Good Friday, or New Years Day
My Geat-Grandfather's clock has stopped again ... and I did catch myself wondering if anyone in the family had died ... yes, it has stopped around the time of family deaths in the past!

Right, let's get on.

I will try and catch up with you later, but have to go to Church this evening for a Carol rehearsal, so hopefully will get the time later x
