This set of icons is from "Your Favourites" over at DW .... with a theme, of favourite nti-Hero.

I chose Scarlett O'Hara, from Gone with the Wind, and Capt Jack Sparrow, from Pirates.

1   2   3   4

I have 2 sets of icons I made for It's A Battlefield.

The first set was for a theme of "New Show" ... I did half of them from "Unforgotten" and the other half from the latest season (and latest Doctor) of Dr Who

Dr Who 6   Dr Who 3   Dr Who 4 Dr Who 7   Dr Who 5

Dr Who 8   Dr Who 2   Dr Who

Unforgotten   Unforgotten 6   Unforgotten 5   unforgotten-s3-bts-sanjeev-bhaskar-3200x1800-1   Unforgotten 2 Unforgotten 3   Unforgotten 4

This set has a theme of "Rainbow" .... I did each colour on both Stargate SG1, and Atlantis

01   Red Orange   Yellow

Green   Blue   Violet   Indigo

08   Red 2   Orange 2   Yellow 2

Green 2   Blue 2   Indigo 2   Violet 2

As ever, all are snaggable .... and credits are found over at [livejournal.com profile] d4s_icons

I swear we only had a couple of days this week!

I had a good day yesterday in the end ... actually getting some jobs done, as well as shopping, and catching up a with a friend.

Now it's Saturday and I have done some shopping, and a bit of housework.  Am here for a few moments ... before getting on with things, and then heading into work.  I am on the main reception desk at the hospital this afternoon.  Hopefully it will be fairly un-busy so I can have iPlayer on the the background to keep up with Dr Who.  I am still questioning this new Doctor/companion ... but still enjoy the show.  I remember watching from behind the sofa when we were at a friends house (they had an older brother who used to watch it) .... And it would have been the first Doctor during season 2 that I first saw the Daleks!

Then tomorrow is Sunday.  I won't be able to get to my own Church as it's the one day a year there isn't a service.  It is on the road where the South West Run takes place.  So those nearby walk so that they open the Church so that anyone who needs water/toilets etc can use the facilities.

Then Monday is a Bank Holiday, but I am working on Reception ... and Tuesday I am on the Reception again during the afternoon, and on my registration job in the morning.  So I will answer questions through till Wednesday, which is when I return ....

25. In 1979 the film Alien was released. Are you a fan of sci-fi/horror?
Not horror ... but I do like my Sci Fi (after alll I have just written about Dr Who!!!)

26. What is your favourite type of fruit?
Most!
I do like pineapple, strawberries, grapes, oranges, etc, etc

27. It's another bank holiday in the UK today - the Spring Bank Holiday was originally intended to give bank employees the opportunity to participate and attend cricket matches. Have you ever been to a cricket match?
No ... I have seen it on village greens as I have passed ... I suppose it doesn't help that neither brother, or my Dad were interested, so didn't get "dragged" along.

28. Did anyone in your family own a ciné camera for family films (and do you still have them)? Do you take videos of family events these days?
I have the cine camera and reels ... and video conversion of the "family" one ... I so need to get it changed to DVD

Right ... let's get on, and try and catch up with yu.

Then see you Wednesday x

Monday, Again

It was a lovely weekend ... especially in that we actually had some lovely weather to go with it.  As I type this it is pouring with rain.  Still, as someone who only has tubs ona patio the rain is good, after the warmth & sun!!

I had a lovely time with brenda, there will be photos to come, but haven't sorted them yet.  We had a great walk around the house, and a walk through the grounds.  Brenda was also able to have a chat about Nick, and know that I knew exactly what she was talking about.  Healthwise he is not doing well, and sadly he has always been someone who has never accepted help or advice from anyone.

I did watch The Eurovision Song Contest ... you have to live over in Europe to know how truly mad it is.  I started the evening by watching the 2 episodes of Dr Who and then I wasn't going to watch the song contest, but Brenda text me about the time it started and we "chatted" about the show.  I wanted the group who came 2nd, to win, so it wasn't completey mad in the end.

I am split on Dr Who ... thought the episodes were OK as traditional Dr Who stories, but really wasn't 100% pulled in by the new doctor, or his companion.

Sunday, was Sunday!  It was our pastor's 35th birthday, so he was in a very bouncy mode.

And, now it's today.

I have a sports massage appointment in a moment so it will be good to get my neck & shoulders sorted out again.  The rest of the day I shall maybe make some icons, sort out the photos from Saturday and basically be lazy.  I am woring tomorrow, 8 - 4, and then go straight to a fracture clinic appointment, so it's a long day ... then Wednesday I am working again ... so ...

13. It's World Cocktail Day and in 1934 Duke Ellington got to Number 1 with 'Cocktails for Two'. What's you've favourite cocktail?
Well, that is one of the better “theme days”. I think my favourite couple are a Moscow Mule and an Aperol Spritz

14. In 1643 an earthquake killed a third of the population of Santiago in Chile. Have you ever experienced an earthquake?
No

15. In 1878 Vaseline was granted a patent (U.S. Patent 127,568) - do you have uses for Vaseline?
When I first started playing the clarinet I used it on all the cork joints … I do now buy cork-grease as it’s less messy.

Right, I must get on otherwise I shall be late for my appointment.

Will post the photos later ... and catch up with you all soon x

Technically it was on Thursday, but it was also 60 years ago tonight that Dr Whos Tardis arrived on Planet Earth for the first time.  We didn't have a TV 60 years ago, however Mum & Dad's closest friends did.  They had a girl my age, and a boy 3 years older ... we used to often go there for Saturday evening tea (& they used to come to us, as well).

So, yes, my first memory is of their lounge, and hiding behind the sofa with Stephanie ... we weren't meant to be see it, but Malcolm could ... so, we used to sneak in anyway!!  It was definately the first Doctor, William Hartnell, but probably the second season that would bring the memories, as I would have been 3 - 4.

So, we are now up to Doctor #14, or is it #10, and there is a mini-series starting tonight ... and, yes, I shall be there.  However on the sofa this time, not behind it!!

This morning I have made some cheese scones for tea ... and some to put in the freezer for another day.

Now I have ironing to do, and still haven't finished writing up my holiday journal, so that's part of the plan for this afternoon.

So, before I post this -

25 – Shopping Reminder Day: Shopping Reminder Day falls roughly a month before Christmas, and as such it’s the perfect reminder to go ahead and get started on all of your holiday shopping. How do you feel about holiday shopping? Do you need a reminder to go shopping for holiday gifts?
I have never needed a reminder, as it would have been Dad's birthday on Monday ... and 3 of my 4 nephews have birthdays next week. So as I start thinking of those I end up automatically thinking Christmas.

26 – Cake Day: Cake or pie? Or something else?
Yes please!!!
Either/both.
However for me pie is "pudding" after a meal, and cake is for tea meals, or snacks (just look at the waistline and you would know that!)

Right, let's get this posted ... it's good to be organised for the weekend ... see you Monday x

Wednesday's Musings

debris4spike: (Default)
Over at [livejournal.com profile] photo_scavenger this weeks prompt is TYPE, and these 2 photos are showing true old-fashioned typing!

My Dad did his PhD (& MSc) pre computers, and he actually typed the work out himself (with it being photocopied for the 4 copies needed).  So, here are the 2 books ... and the fronis page from his PhD ... I am one proud daughter, as I went to his graduation a couple of years before he came to mine!

DSC_0552

DSC_0551

So thought I would share them here

So what with these and the 100 icon post I have already done, you are getting a lot of images from me today!  However seeing as it's raining at present it's nice to post something different from just a dull and depressing weather report.

Oh well - I may have said there would be musings, but can't think of anything special.

Did many of you watch Dr Who on Sunday ... I will admit I found it a bit confusing, although the special effects were certainly amazing.  So, I shall watch it again this coming weekend and see if with more time there will be more coherance in the storyline.  (And is it just me, or did we leave her trapped and alone in a prison ... or have I missed an episode)

Now I really must get on ... I am trying to write a fic for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy but although I know roughly what it's about I can't seem to get it to flow smoothly.  So I shall look at it again, and if that doesn't help I shall leave it until I come back from London and then re-visit it ready for posting a few days after I get back.

Hope you are all well ... and, as ever -

3. Do you use any medicines daily?
Thyroxine
And, as much Ventolin as needed.

Will see what you have posted, then get on ... see you tomorrow x

So, that's a different post than any update ... but still going to do my day's question before signing off -
19. What’s the dumbest thing someone has argued with you about?
19. What’s the dumbest thing someone has argued with you about?

I suppose at my age (!!!), anyone who argues with my stand on ny Christian faith would be mad, although I am happy to do so!

Hi

I went to the doctors today and have been signed off for another 2 weeks. So, more daytime TV awaits! He has also sent me to have chest x-rays, becuse although he thinks I am OK, 6 weeks of illness needs confirmation.

So, Jiffy gets to have company for a bit longer ... he gets lunch every day, so he thinks it's great!!

7 If you could step into the TV and be part of a TV show, which one would it be?
Well, I think it would be Dr Who (no I don't want to battle the baddies), but wouldn't it be great to be able to see history and geography ... visit places I want and see history actually happening. I wonder if the history books are correct!
debris4spike: (Eagle Face sculpture)
... still have no energy, and coughing.  However am a bit better.  So the plan is (I have yet to see my doctor today, who may change this!!), to slowly do bits of early spring-cleaning, sorting, etc.  I am terrible at doing this, so am not going to worry if I don't do too much.  However what I can do will be so positive, and aslo will hopefully help me to begin to build up my stamina.

Flu bug has truly scrambled my brain though.  I sent a card to my best friend for her birthday, and yes text me to say ... "when is your brother's birthday", I was confused, so rang ... yes, I sent her card to Nick, and Nick's card to her.  Oh well, they say it's the thought that counts!!

Well as I am only sitting doing not much, there is no news.

Although, I must sat that I am loving the storyline of this season of Dr Who ... hope it continues on the same way.

So much for posting every day ... ooops. Anyway, here is a catch-up

December 04 → talk about television this year

I have watched quite a bit of repeats, which has been fun (I don't have to concentrate).

I have watched Dr Who this year, although I was suprised that I enjoyed it, as I wasn't sure about the female Dr (for lots of reasons, but one being that having seen the Dr and River Song and a (?) child ... I didn't think a female Dr would work)

December 05 → talk about books this year

I have read some of the graphic novels of The Dresden Files ... still waiting for Peace Talks. I have bought the short story compilation, but have yet to read it.

My nephews bought me a Star Wars Book for Christmas last year ... 49 short stories celebrating 40 years since the first film, telling the story of that film from assorted other characters. Fascinating. Star Wars, from a certain point of view

Other than that is's the normal, Bible, Regency stories and Fan Fic

December 06 → talk about food this year

Haven't really discovered anything new ... still enjoying cooking etc

December 07 → talk about music this year

And again - nothing new.

I haven't played clarinet/saxophone as much as I should have done!
debris4spike: (Tardis.)
Just seen Dr Who on iPlayer while doing some Star Trek icons .... makes me happy to see the show continue, having first watched the Daleks from behind the sofa back in the early 60's!

So far I think I already prefer this Doctor to the last one!

I know this last year has been tough - but you have fought the Big C (twice) and won through - Life can truly start now.

Well, I thought it was a great day - whatever the weather, whatever the news (sport included!!) I had a lovely day.

How can I begin to thank you all for what you did to help me celebrate my 51st birthday.

The day before, Mum & Dad took me shopping and bought me a watch.  That was doubly special ... both in that it is a lovely watch, but also that both of them were well enough to actually go out with me.  These last few months have been rough for dad, which has made mum's year long troubles worse.  However both are doing well at present, which is lovely to see.

When I got back it was to my first "card" -

Photobucket

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] kudagirl... as she pointed out, without him we would never have "met".

I woke really happy, as I had a really special dream ... what a great way to start the day.

Then I was given the following message from [livejournal.com profile] jaded_jamie .... so what could I do, other than have a great day.

At Church they started our second service by singing "Happy Birthday" ... so that was fun.  The chief elder suggested giving me the bumps ... but as I pointed out I had never had it done, so it was too late to start ... and dad said I would be heavy!  So that idea got abandoned.

Then back home for lunch ... sneaking more LJ time ... and the serious bit of my birthday ... pressies and cake!

I decided to do the icon meme again (and again!) ... well I asked 3 people and had 14 icons from the 3 of them.

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

ExpandAnd here are the 14 icons that were picked )
