After all, the sun is shining today!

Yesterday we have heavy rain most of the day ... so much for having a day off to relax. So, in the end I spent a super lazy day ... read some stuff, and watched TV. I did end up watching a documentary on Deborah, the WWI tank and how a replica was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the battle of Cambrai. I saw the tank a couple of years ago, and I do wonder whether Granddad ever saw her, as well, as he was in the Cambrai region in 1917.

Now I am doing a few bits and pieces before heading out to work in early afternoon.  Hopefully it will go smoothly.  On Saturday during the shift, the car-park pay machines were down.  So I spent a lot of time clearing the cars.  I wonder what happened after I went home.  Sadly the company is not "user-friendly"!!  So let's hope that they got them sorted out this morning, so life is slightly easier.

I mustn't forget my A to Z photo. Week 9 – Feb 23 I is for INFO
IMG_20250224_104239
As you know, I love my annual trips to London. So over the year I go through these books, to find out any IFO about undiscovered corners.

Right, let's get on.  But, before that -

22. It’s International Sword Swallower Day! Have you ever seen someone swallow a sword?
No

23. What was your favourite toy when you were growing up?
A toy I called “Lorry Milko”. It was a pull along truck with small milk bottles, that I used to deliver all around the garden. Then the fairies (umm, Mummy & Daddy) would collect the “empties” so they could all be delivered again!

24. Have you ever been skiing?
No … after all, I could trip over the pattern of a carpet. So, learning to ride a horse was scary enough!

See you tomorrow x

8 Lost Icons

I do like to cause myself problems with my icon making, don't I?  I joined [community profile] retro_icontest  a few months back, but this is the first set I have made.  The problem is that they are all specific to the series "Lost", which I never watched.  So maybe I should now!  we had to just use 2 screencaps, so I have posted those as well, for my own reference, if nothing else.

1 - Blank One2 - Blank Two3 - Textured One 4 - Textured Two
1. Blank One (First Image)2. Blank Two (Second Image)3. Textured One (First Image)4. Textured Two (Second Image)
5 - Desaturate 6 - Rotate7 - Text Required 8 - Two-in-One
5. Desaturated (Either Image)6. Rotate (Either Image)7. Text Required (Either Image)8. 2-in-1 (Combine Both Images into 1 Icon)

Pilot - season 1
Pilot - season 1
Across the Sea - season 6
Across the Sea - season 6.15

And giving thanks to Lost Screencaps

And, as ever, they are all snaggable.

Day 2 Already

It's funny but I am sure it is only a few years ago we were all talking about going into a new millennium, and now we are a quarter of a century in. How did that happen?

Yesterday morning I had an early start as I had to be in work by 8am and although I live nearby, staying up to see in the New Year wasn't my best plan! In actual fact I wasn't impressed with the fireworks anyway. They were amazing - but too many at one time. When I was in USA for the 4th July they let off a couple at a time, and that way you actually got to enjoy the colour - in London there was a row of them all at the same time, with more starting all the time - a block of colour, but you couldn't see individual patterns. Also, last year, they used quite a few drones, which were missing this time. So, a thumbs-down ... sorry! But, still glad I watched it!!!

Today I have actually started to take down my Christmas decorations - I am not usually this early, but working on Saturday, and Sunday is a no-go for housework, so decided to get organised.

However I am aiming to have a walk as well today as the sun is shining.

So, before I post this I must again thank [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee for her hard work in sorting out the meme and ...

1. The first day of the new year – do you have anything special to look forward to this coming year?
Hopefully!

2. Day two of the new year - have you eaten all the goodies you bought for the Christmas/holiday festivities yet?
No ... still chocs and sweets to slowly eat over the coming days/weeks.

Right - hope you all had a Happy New Year, and an amazing 2025
debris4spike: (Default)
Ooops - I didn't get here on Saturday, did I?

I worked in the morning - and it was actually a really good shift. Just busy enough to keep me focussed, but also easy enough that I could sort out a few things on the computer, so a winning morning.

I made the mistake of making a cup of tea when I got home ... and ... and ... and!!! I just had a relaxing couple of hours, until it was time to watch the final of Strictly Come Dancing. So all in all a good day.

Yesterday I went to the Nativity service at the Cathedral, and it was a lovely afternoon. I met up with Tim and Claire and we enjoyed the "play", as well as singing some of the best carols (we finished with my favourite "Hark the Herald Angels Sing").  At the end George was willing to stand still so he could have his photo taken ... he and Harry were the real stars of the service.
DSC_1681

So, Christmas is certainly getting close ... and, as you can see my lounge is looking ready, I just need to make sure I am organised, as well!
DSC_1663

I am planning a "housework" day today, as well as hopefully get some mince pies make, after all I can't have Christmas without mince pies.

So, let me get on -

14. It’s Dick Van Dyke’s birthday – what have you seen him in (TV or movies)?
It may have had a lot of complaints on his accent, but I do love Mary Poppins, as well as Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang.
And, have to admit, if there's a repeat of Diagnosis Murder on I don't mind a re-watch.

15. Sci-fi and fantasy (books/TV/film), yes or no?
Most TV, many films, and a few books - yes

16. Do you know how to knit? Even if you don’t – do you own anything hand-knitted?
Yes, although I learned to crochet before I learned to knit.
I am actually wearing a jumper that I knitted myself.

Right - let me try and catch up, and then get on.
debris4spike: (Default)
... but I have still hung washing outside.  I do like to have the washing out if I can.  But by mid afternoon I shall bring it in.  Luckily I have a 3 story house and have an airer that hangs over the stairwell, so in actual fact it does dry pretty well, and doesn't get that "stale" smell that some indoor dried clothes get.

I had a lazy morning, and ended up watching some daytime TV with an extra cuppa ... fun!  Although it was something where brides were choosing their wedding dresses ... some of the ladies, and/or some of the families certainly had some critical comments about the dresses, and wedding details.

I didn't get the photos sorted, as my computer was on a go-slow on Tuesday .... then yesterday I was working afternoon and evening.  However I should get a couple of posts up today (I hope!!)

Tomorrow I am working in the morning and as soon as I get home I am heading out as it's Brenda's brother's funeral  They live about an hour's drive from here, so I am going (as are Tim & Claire, but separately as they are heading off for the weekend immediately afterwards).  It is going to be a very, very hard day for everyone, but especially Ali (his widow), and the rest of Brenda's family.

I am then working Saturday ... so looks like it will be Monday till I am back again ... so ....

13. Gold or silver jewellery – do you have a preference?
Yes please!
Today - I am wearing 2 gold necklaces & 2 silver bracelets and I am wearing 10 rings .... 7 gold, 2 silver & 1 brass.
I just love any/all jewellery, and do change things around all the time.

14. In 2006 Daniel Craig became the 7th actor to play James Bond in Casino Royale. Who is your favourite James Bond actor (if you have one?)?
I love either Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton
Have yet to see any of the Daniel Craig ones ... that's a plan for "later".

15. What’s the first thing you do when you walk through the door after a day out of the house?
Depends on the weather/time of day etc
So really nothing specific.

16. In 1974 ABBA began their first tour of Europe outside of Sweden. What is the first song you think of when you think of ABBA?
"Take a Chance on Me" or "Money, Money, Money"

17. Today, in 1798, a five-day New England blizzard began that covered thousands of houses and killed hundreds of people. What’s the deepest snow you’ve ever experienced in one continuous snowfall?
When I was 2 and a half ... so don't remember it! I was living in North Wales at the time, and didn't get to see the grass again until Easter.

OK ... will try and get some photos sorted and posted ... but really won't be properly around until Monday x

Monday, Again

Monday, October 28th, 2024 12:06 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
That was a good weekend - work went well. In fact it was pretty un-busy, and those around were really relaxed. So, yes a nice shift.

I enjoyed the Halloween "Strictly Come Dancing", and enjoyed quite a few of the dances. As ever it annoys me that people who have done dance training, musical performance, etc, are competing. I much prefer seeing those who have never danced before. The lady who was voted out yesterday had no experience, and her dancing was really progressing. Like many I am amazed to watch Chris dance ... someone who is totally blind, yet is doing very well.

And, it was great to have an extra hour in bed!

At Church we had someone preaching who is a possibility as "associate paster" .... I am not a Church member, but if I was he would not be getting my vote. Nothing specific, but wasn't really impressed with his sermon, as it didn't really challenge me in any way, which is one of the reasons I go to Church. I also was incredibly annoyed that he wore a basketball hat .... that, for me, is a no go ... no man should wear a hat indoors IMHO, but certainly not in a Church.

However, the rest of the day went well. I enjoyed, as ever, watching "Australian Lego Masters" ... the work that they do is totally incredible.

So, as someone who is not a great TV watcher, there were a couple of fun shows this weekend.

Now it's Monday morning. I have already done some housework, and hope to get some more done. One of the projects I want to get done this week is to take all the items out of the display cabinet's in my house. I try to do that a couple of times a year, but this Easter it got missed due to the wrist injury.

Weather permitting, and it does look positive, I am walking into Exeter tomorrow to do another of the historical walks, so will do 2 days post to make up for it -

28. In 1897 Edith Head, the Hollywood costume designer was born. Her designs for The Sting won her an Oscar (she won 8 in her lifetime). What’s your favourite era for beautiful clothing styles? What's the fanciest thing you've ever worn?
She did some lovely stuff ... designing for Audrey Hepburn in a couple of her films, as well. Watch "Sabrina" and you will see what I mean.
I do love fancy clothes ... and wore a couple of lovely outfits, I think my favourite was the one I had for Mum & Dad's 40th anniversary. I always wear "Sunday best" to Church ... so would not have a problem wearing something over-the-top ... in fact the dress I have already bought for Tim & Claire's 35th is pretty special. (photos on March!!)

29. Do you like porridge/oatmeal for breakfast? If you do, do you add extra things to it?

I will have it occasionally but for tea in the winter! I like it with just milk & sugar on top.

Right, I will catch up with you all this afternoon x

Monday, Again

Monday, May 13th, 2024 11:46 am
debris4spike: (Default)
It was a lovely weekend ... especially in that we actually had some lovely weather to go with it.  As I type this it is pouring with rain.  Still, as someone who only has tubs ona patio the rain is good, after the warmth & sun!!

I had a lovely time with brenda, there will be photos to come, but haven't sorted them yet.  We had a great walk around the house, and a walk through the grounds.  Brenda was also able to have a chat about Nick, and know that I knew exactly what she was talking about.  Healthwise he is not doing well, and sadly he has always been someone who has never accepted help or advice from anyone.

I did watch The Eurovision Song Contest ... you have to live over in Europe to know how truly mad it is.  I started the evening by watching the 2 episodes of Dr Who and then I wasn't going to watch the song contest, but Brenda text me about the time it started and we "chatted" about the show.  I wanted the group who came 2nd, to win, so it wasn't completey mad in the end.

I am split on Dr Who ... thought the episodes were OK as traditional Dr Who stories, but really wasn't 100% pulled in by the new doctor, or his companion.

Sunday, was Sunday!  It was our pastor's 35th birthday, so he was in a very bouncy mode.

And, now it's today.

I have a sports massage appointment in a moment so it will be good to get my neck & shoulders sorted out again.  The rest of the day I shall maybe make some icons, sort out the photos from Saturday and basically be lazy.  I am woring tomorrow, 8 - 4, and then go straight to a fracture clinic appointment, so it's a long day ... then Wednesday I am working again ... so ...

13. It's World Cocktail Day and in 1934 Duke Ellington got to Number 1 with 'Cocktails for Two'. What's you've favourite cocktail?
Well, that is one of the better “theme days”. I think my favourite couple are a Moscow Mule and an Aperol Spritz

14. In 1643 an earthquake killed a third of the population of Santiago in Chile. Have you ever experienced an earthquake?
No

15. In 1878 Vaseline was granted a patent (U.S. Patent 127,568) - do you have uses for Vaseline?
When I first started playing the clarinet I used it on all the cork joints … I do now buy cork-grease as it’s less messy.

Right, I must get on otherwise I shall be late for my appointment.

Will post the photos later ... and catch up with you all soon x
debris4spike: (Default)
As I said yesterday I had a plunber coming round to replace/repair my kitchen tap.  BUT .... as he started he asked me whether I knew that one of the pipes was leaking?  So I had a two-for-one repair work needed.  Oh  well, at least I didn't end up with a flooded kitchen so that was a positive.  After all, I am glad that I had to get the work done on the tap.

The secondary good thing of getting that done was that I needed to empty the cupboard, so it gives me a chance to have a good sort out of the things in it .. so, spring-cleaning (and, yes, I know it's October)

So hope to get some photos up later, before I head out to work this afternoon.  I am on reception, which is good, as I really am snuffling with this cold, and where I am is slightly isolated, so won't get to share it around too much.  When Covid started the NHS put a partition up around the desk so I can't even sneeze over the annoying visitors!

Watched most of "Bake-Off" yesterday, but didn't really enjoy the theme, and with feeling all bunged up I went to bed before the final round.  Mexican ... so if I ever get there I shall have to see what the local food truly looks like.

Right, photo time ... and, as ever ...

5. Who or what are two people or things you keep mixing up with one another?
Nothing I can think of ... but the brain is a bit fuzzy this morning.

Right, off I go to edit x

Bank Holiday Weekend

Saturday, August 27th, 2022 12:45 pm
debris4spike: (Default)
... and so far I have had a chat to Brenda as today is her 60th birthday. She is having a day with her family, and a couple of weeks ago she was with her brothers & sister; and in a couple of weeks time she will be with us. So all in all a great celebration for her.

I have also walked to Tesco and done a large shopping trip, catching the but back. Now I am here, and going to do a few icons before I cook dinner, and then aim to have a lazy afternoon.

I had a late night yesterday as I got in gone 8.30 and thought I would watch one more episode of the DVD set I had for my birthday ... there are 6 episodes in a series and this is a 4 series set - Unforgotten ... but then ended up watching the final 4 episodes. Such a well written series that I somehow missed when it was on TV ... so thanks Nick & Brenda, great choice, but a late night.

Then tomorrow is Sunday, so no computer ... but before I post this ...

27. When you leave a room, do you turn the lights off behind you or keep the lights on throughout your house most of the time?
I tend to not use many lights, but yes, they go out as I leave the rom ... well, unless I am just popping to the loo!

28. How frequently do you purchase lottery tickets?
Never - don't even buy raffle tickets

29. Have you ever been an audience member for any television shows? Which ones? If you haven't, would you like to be? For which shows?
Only once in 1989 ... The BBC show "Songs of Praise" from the town of Wimborne Minster in Dorset (the organist was a friend of mine)

Right, I did an extra day as Monday is a Bank Holiday, and I have plans ... I am working for a few hours! So once I get back I shall hopefully have a walk, or something (although Bank Holidays traditionally have bad weather!!)

Hope to catch up with you later ... as well as answer comments etc. Have fun x
debris4spike: (Default)
Yes, I often think that anyway.

However for those of you who can get BBC1, watch some of The Great Sewing Bee this evening.  And the reason ... one of the contestants is Jiffy's Marni ... yes he would be so happy to sit and watch the program. Here is the details of the program if you don't know about it.  As I started watching it last week I got 2 texts from friends asking if it was Jiffy's favourite person ... and yes, that's his Marni.  She did well last week, so hopefully that will continue.

I still haven't quite finished the photos so will sort and do them later ... and I will get caught up with you all, I promise.  I know I said I was going to do that yesterday and didn't but that is because I got involved in some on-line scrabble ... so I can always say I was "brain training" ... great excuse!!!

And before I get on with that -

May 4 is "Bike to School Day". Is that something you did when you were in school?

Sometimes. Dad often dropped us off though so we walked home.
When I was at college I always cycled to the station a mile away.

So off to sort photos x
debris4spike: (Default)
... so I had better catch up with the final missing questions ...

26 What’s one small thing you’ve accomplished today that wasn’t even on your to-do list?

Emptying bins around the house ... I would need to do them tomorrow otherwise (it's bin day on Friday), so I am ahead of myself.

27 If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be?
Work!

28 Is there a book or TV series that you enjoy, but acknowledge that it's not actually very good? What makes you love it enough to keep reading/watching?

I still love Blakes 7, despite it being one of the classical sci fi shows that has "wobbly sets", so that's fun to spot. Just loved it when I first saw it - and that has never gone!!

29 If you were your own best friend, what piece of unsolicited advice would you give yourself?
Look at yourself in mirrors - and enjoy!

30 What television sitcom is your real life most like?

Nothing I can think of specifically ... no one would write my life! I think I tend to relate to varios characters in various shows.
debris4spike: (Sanity - overated!)
10 Which children's story, song or TV programme do you think is most fundamentally flawed, plot-wise?

No, none of them at all!

They are all true stories ... all well written, and totally believable.

For any who question this statement, just look at this -

.. or this, both shows I grew up watching, and showing how true to life kids TV was in those days ... although I can't speak for what's on now!

Enjoy!!

Not For Me!!

Friday, February 10th, 2017 08:36 am
debris4spike: (Jiffy - sitting)
I have had to get up "early" today, despite not at work as the decorator arrives at 7.45am

So I have just had the TV on and saw a programme about an American couple making a "Tiny Home".  It was a lovely place, with room for 4 cats, as well.

However for me, it is ironical that they (and others) are making these petite places, whereas I am looking to get a conservatory built.  So I am up-sizing ... not down-sizing!
debris4spike: (Spitfire)
Day 04 → talk about television this year

I honestly don't think I have followed anything this year.  I often have the TV on in the background, often repeats of history programmes.

I do always watch Strictly Come Dancing ... so that has 2 more shows to go before we get a result.

Character Meme

Friday, October 14th, 2016 02:57 pm
debris4spike: (James - actoring theories)
Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] scripsi

Give me a character (from anything ever) (as many characters as you want) in my ask and I’ll rate:

Looks: somewhat attractive | eh | not really my type | pretty | handsome | beautiful | stud | gorgeous | DROOOOOOOOOOOL

Can you relate to this character on a personal level?: no | not really | somewhat | yes | they are me

Would you date/be friends with this character in real life if they were real?: total bros | friends | best friends | date | become their steady boyfriend/ girlfriend | neither | i don’t know

And here's a list of shows (past and present) just in case you need it :
Doctor Who (New), Blakes 7, BtVS, M*A*S*H, Moonlight, Sharpe, Star Trek Voyager, Stargate SG1 (seasons 1 - 8), The Champions, Torchwood, V, Vampire Diaries
I think that's all, but if you know of my favourite films, or other shows I've mentioned then do add!

I Might Have Known!!

debris4spike: (James - actoring theories)
I'm not a great TV watcher, but have been enjoying re-watching M*A*S*H.  Last week another channel said it would be re-showing Stargate SG1 ... so I thought "YAY"

However - guess what ..... yes, they are both on at the same time!!

I have them both on DVD, so it's no big problem, just I thought ironic.
debris4spike: (Yawn - Horse)
As ever I seem to have loads of comments to catch up with - I will ... I promise (just may not be today)

First day back at work - first full day for many months ... so am really tired.  Thankfully I have tomorrow off.  As of next week I shall be doing an extra day a week (3 1/2), so not a lot compared with most, but having had a year where it was rare for me to work the 2 1/2, it will seem a lot.  The dept has given me a clinic to work in (plus a pay rise).  I am on a 6 month temporary contract, still employed via the Bank, so that is just great.

Saw Dad yesterday, and he is slowly settling.  Nick was coming down today, but I shall go in tomorrow and de-Christmas his room.  I need to do my own lounge as well.

Did any other Brits see War & Peace last night ... was it me tired, or was it a bit of a muddle?  Oh well, I shall try again next week and see if things fall into place better.

Well I can hear the buzzer so looks like I need to get to the kitchen.

Happy January 4th!!!

Your Favourite Television Programme

Yes, I love BtVS, but have still to see Angel! I love the series, for more reasons than I can list. A great story, good characters you can love and hate ... and James Marsters!

The first series I truly loved was Blakes 7 ... the first TV series I became involved in fandom with. Reading a bit of fan-fic, as well as joining the fan club.

Avon, is my favourite character ... and maybe you can see why -

Other series I love are -
Star Trek, Voyager
M*A*S*H
Stargate SG1
Andromeda
Vampire Diaries

As well as some mini series, such as Wish Me Luck, Danger UXB,

etc

Past TV 2

... And of course if you want another great memory, then you have to hear the best ever credit tune/song.

Loved that show!

Flashing Blade was so much a part of my brothers & I regular viewing.

Past TV

Just watched a documentary on Blakes 7 that [livejournal.com profile] kudagirl sent me a link to ... it was great watching the interviews of the actors 30+ years after the filming.

It reminded me of great shows I have watched in the past ... and had to think back of my earliest memories ... and here it is ... I loved this show, wonder what modern kids would think of it as their main entertainment!!

Enjoy!
