Worked this morning ... but trying to catch up now.

Had a really productive day in the end yesterday ... doing housework as well as writing up another day of my holiday journal. As ever I made notes while we were travelling around in France/Belgium, so I am transcribing them into a journal.

I then made the most of the lovely weather we had by walking a long way round to collect my regular prescription. Then later in the day I did another walk before getting my booster jab at my doctors. It was funny but, when I started work at the hospital, I had so many jabs that I thought I would never need anything further. However, I was advised to check before my Egypt trip and although I was OK for most of them I was missing one, and they said my tetanus booster was due anyway. So back in January I had the 2 jabs, and last night the booster one for Hepatitis A.

Actually I also was able to sit outside while I had a good chat with Auntie Mary, as well.

So, as I said, all in all a really good and productive day.

19. It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day! Have you read Robert Louis Stephenson’s Treasure Island?
No – although Dad loved it, and re-read it a few times.

20. Let’s talk pillows: soft/medium or hard? Synthetic/hypoallergenic, memory foam or feather (duck or goose)? How many are comfortable for you to sleep on?
Feather pillows.

Remembering the 84th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. This sketch was actually drawn at the time by Dad, who was living and working in East London, on the docks in that area.

Extra Day Off

I have no work today, so after a couple of lazy days it is nice to have a day to try to bothcatch up with a couple of missing tasks, do some other important jobs (like order money for next week's holiday) and catch up here .. and also plan to not overwork, as I am still struggling with the virus.  So much so I actually saw my GP today and she said it is just a virus, so good to know that I haven't missed something obvious.

When I saw my GP I did point out the old phrase that Mum always said ... a virus is
"3 days coming, 3 days here & 3 days going."
But she said that we also have to add that it then takes 3 weeks to heal ... but I did add that mummy was never wrong!

Sadly the leg is slow in healing ... and as I sadi I have a holiday coming up.  I am going to Sicily for a week, so looks like i will be hobbling round the island at this rate.

But on to good news ... Tim & Claire ....
They heard last Friday that their neighbours planning had been completely rejected.  And it is in such a way that if they want to do anything on the back they are going to actually have to knock down a pre-existing extention as it is too close to the border under new rules.  So Tim & Claire were totally amazed that it was good news, and in fact much better than could have been expected.

Yesterday as one of my rexations I made some icons for comps running over at DW ....

From Your_Favourites ... Challenge #171 - TV Show by Genre: Comedy
These 4 icons are from my favourite comedy TV show ... a real easy choice. I loved M*A*S*H the first time around, and still love to catch an episode -

1   3   2   4

And, from Perioddrama_ic challenge 59 - Face off
Pride & Prejudice .... Sense & Sensibility

1   4   3   2

So now I think you are all up to date ... I want to try and give my conservatory a really good clean, but before I post this -

9 – Sleepover Day: Did you do sleepovers when you were young?
No, as I was a victim of bullying by the age that they would have occurred.

Right, let's get on x

Yes, true

It is part of the follow-up from the tumble I took. I had to check on my BP a couple of times twice a day for at least a week. My GP then worked out the average ... and it was perfect! Yes, the figure that doctors use as the perfect average, and there is my result. So good news. And, while there, she exempted me from my next Asthma review ... so a good afternoon.

I needed that ... especially after the clinic I had this morning. Most clinics we have an "odd-ball" patient ... well after all but one of the patients I should be exempt for a week or two.

I am going to get some housework done, I hope, as I have Toni & her dog crashing here on Friday while Pete has surgery. I am working over the next couple of days so will be good to try and get a bit ahead.

I am going to post the photos of my trip with Brenda as soon as I can ... but before I post this -

27– World Theatre Day: what was the last thing you saw performed in a theatre?

I think it was "Fiddler on the Roof" back in 1984

28 – Salt Awareness Week (UK): The recommended intake for salt is 6g per day, pick a meal today and share how much salt there is in it.
I do like salt with food ... hopefully try not to have too much, but can't eat veggies without it (and now I know the BP is OK I am not going to worry)

Right, let's get on.

Will try & catch up in a minute x

I had to go back to the doctors twice this last week, and at the second appointment, I had the classic "Good News ... Bad News"

The good news is that I am getting over the flu that has wiped me out for the last few weeks ... the bad news is that because I have had flu I am very vulnerable, so, yes you guessed it, I have caught flu.

So considering I had the jab, then this is the 3rd strain of flu I have been attacked with over the last couple of months.

So, bed rest continues!  Sadly this one has given me a "lovely" dry cough, so if that continues into next week I will be back at th docs for a cough suppressent (I had to have one when I had pneumonia some years back)

So, other than this, there is no news.  Hope everyone else's 2020 is going better than mine!
debris4spike: (Yay!)
What a week .... talk about a roller-coaster.

Having started back at work this week after my holiday to Italy (yes pictures are partly up, and some more to come later) I knew the week would feel weird, especially as I had my annual update training day on Wednesday.  Working for the NHS in a large hospital there are certain things we need to re-learn every year, eg fire safety, hand hygiene, and basic life support ... so that was my Wednesady organised.

However, before I got there, late Tuesday afternoon I had a phone call from my doctor saying my blood test from the previous Friday (to check my thyroxine, etc) was showing an ovarian marker ... I needed scans.  So, Thursday morning I phoned, and was seen an hour later ... but was told I was all clear.

The weird thing is, for that 36 hours I didn't think who I could talk to (other than God), but my main concern overall was not how much I might miss of the future, but of how Jiffy would cope.  However all is OK, totally clear.

Today I had a stress management day at work, as well.  And one thing that they were talking about was learning to be thankful.  I have done these sorts of posts in the past, but thought I would try to do it again for a few weeks ... and hopefully that will also make me post.

The stress course was good in that it showed me how I had managed to develope depression even though I had (and have) no regrets with looking after Mum & Dad.  One thing I did get reminded was that all the bullying I had a teenager has left scars ... and medically scars do fade, but never disappear.  So I realise that I must accept that the hurt of years ago will always shape my life.

Sorry for scribbling, but as I realised today (and this week) I have let a lot continue to drift, and no longer have Mum & Dad to ground me, so scribbling here is a way of letter go of some of the tension of the week.

Only Me!!

Off work again this week. Saw another GP (as mine is on holiday). This doc is actually a good friend of my brother, although I find him hard to get on with! However he is a good doc, and gave me a diagnosis of continued virus affecting my asthma - with an overall diagnosis over the last 2 months of "Unfortunate-itis" !! He has sent me for a routine chest x-ray, so I was able to speak to my department in person (and apologise, because even though I know I shouldn't, I still feel guilty).

Anyway, I am still being a good girl and resting loads. I have sorted some of my London photos, so will post them soon-ish, but while you are waiting for them, thought you might like to see this video. I heard about it on the radio this morning. I have never been able to solve a Rubik's cube, although my brother Nick could ... however, not quite like this -

So, get practising, folks.

Sorry I didn't get round to answering comments over the weekend as I promised ... however I seemed to sleep for hours, and hours, so got nothing done at all.  However I have been doing a full (for me) week this week, and still feeling tired, but coping.  Saw my doc today, and she is more confused than me!!  She has ordered blood tests for everything, which I am booked in for next week.  So we shall see.  I personally think it's the last 4 years catching up with me.

However, as we are all hoping to post 3 postitive things, I must remember that I am back at work, and doing the full 3 1/2 days that is what I am booked for.

Last week I saw Rogue One with Claire.  We had a good evening, and glad to say Claire enjoyed it, even though she is not a Star Wars geek.  So, a lovely time, we had dinner first, so a nice evening, and it was on my day off so I could sleep a lot!!

And my 3rd thing is that I have scared myself in that I have emailed Annemarie (in N.W. USA) to say I would like to visit.  I am part excited, a lot panicing!  I am hoping to arrange time with her, then to visit San Fransisco for a few days .... well, providing I can keep positive, and get my passport renewed!)

Day 12 → talk about this year in medical news

For any who know me, they will realise that I have had some tough health problems.

Back in January I had a viral chest infection, that was so bad that my GP was worried that I had a blood clot on my lungs, or had a heart attack.  Fortunately all was OK, but it took 7 weeks before I was well enough to go back to work.

Then I broke a crown off a tooth, and when treatment started I ended up with an infection, so lost the tooth ... and got an infection in the socket!

Now, I am off work again with a virus.  However my doctor has said that the virus is just the name to put on the off-work certificate, but mostly it is emotional exhaustion that has knocked me down.  So 2 weeks off already, and now this coming week, but hoping to cope with going back to work next week.

###

Other medical news was Dad having another stroke in the Spring, and then (as you know) he died on the 2nd September)

His sister was in hospital for 2 weeks with BP problems, and a urine infection.

Jiffy had to have his anal glands removed, as well as a large wart removed from his face a month after Dad's death.  He has also had 3 or 4 skin infections this year (he has one at present)

Roll on 2017!!!
debris4spike: (James - my name)
Yet again I missed a birthday, when did it become August?? Hope that you had a great day, [livejournal.com profile] i_love_freddie yesterday - and that the coming year will be special.

Had a weird day yesterday, with my BP dropping suddenly while I was at Church. Luckily I didn't collapse in a heap, but got to the kitchens before I made a total fool of myself. I saw my own GP today, and all OK ... so it was me being "me" as normal.

I had taken today off work to do some more painting the shed and fence, but it is raining ... so hope it means I can catch up with LJ (have I missed anything), and continue doing some more sorting of my spare room ... certainly a never-ending task!

When I was getting up this morning this song was on the radio.

It brought back memories of my last year of school, and I certainly didn't like Mondays because even now I remember I started the day with double chemistry. Good subject, weird teacher!!

However listening to the first few words made me wonder about the Spike storyline in season 4 ... "silicon chip inside her head". I wish I were clever enough to let the plot bunnies multiply!
debris4spike: (Knitting wool & cat)
Went to see my doctor after work today as I hadn't seen her since I had seen the consultant, and I needed some more pain killers as well!  She wants me to take a month off somewhere without my phone!  But that means no money, so can't do that, and the Mum/Dad guilt would finish me off!  Anyway she does understand why I can't even though we both know those are 2 huge factors in why I am still so poorly.

However when I got back it was to get my washing in ... it may be old-fashioned but it truly makes me happy to hang my washing out, and to smell the fresh clothes is great.  I even enjoy the ironing!

Catching Up

debris4spike: (Hi)
Well, LJ have given us more time ... I just wish they would get themselves sorted out so we could just use the site without them having to extend our membership.  Anyway, it's good to get it ... some internet companies go down and just blame the web in general and no compensation.

I went to see my GP this morning as my left knee has been playing up.  I originally injured it fencing about 15 years ago, but last year when I tore the calf muscle it started twinging again.  Over the last few weeks it has been painful a lot.  I think it's a cartilage that's causing the problem, but my GP did say that as I was the age I was I needed an X-ray to rule out arthritis.  That certainly cheered up my morning!  So, that is ordered.

Tomorrow I have more "radiation" as it's mammogram time ... another sign of old age!

I had a pretty lazy day today ... did some decorating in my on-going spare room, and some shopping and ironing.  It was quite nice to be lazy as the weekend had been busy with taking mum to a hearing appointment then after tea I did their weekly shop for them (so they wouldn't miss their soap!) ... then Saturday was gardening, and a bit of cleaning, as well as taking the bags of weeds, grass cuttings etc to the tip.  Sunday meant birthday time for Jiffy (as I posted his video, you saw he had fun) ... and then helping both m&d fill in forms to take to the podiatrist and then reading dad's book to him so he can continue to check and edit.

It is good to be there for them ... and although I could have done with the money today, it was nice to have a "me" day where I could do thinks I wanted to do ... including some baking.

Oh well, I had better get on ... don't want to bore you with my scribbles.

Hope you all had a good weekend ... and survived Monday!

Life Rushes On

No exciting news here - I am taking today off to try to fight my viral bugs (2 months ... and counting) .. and, yes, I am going to see my doctor today, before you all nag. I also want to get some decorating done, as that seems to be dragging.

A weekend of news wasn't it? ... England found a missing King (buried in a car park, if you missed that) ... and I lost a friend, Pete, suddenly. A musician from Bude who was visiting the Andes for a month had a stroke and died. Having spoken to his family it is hard to know when his body will be returned here.  And Steve (James Marster's agent) lost his partner of 25+ years - Craig was not someone I met, but I know that Steve (and their daughter) will have a tough time ahead.  For both Pete and Craig's families and friends, my heart goes out to them - in the hope that they can focus on the years of love and laughter in the past.

And in honour of Reg Presley, lead singer, who died -

This is one of those songs that you know exactly what will be playing as you hear that first note, isn't it?

Well this isn't getting my breakfast eaten, is it? I know I planned a slower day - but this is taking things a bit too far.

Hope your day is going well.

Wasn't the best of days - they sent me off the ward only 4 hours into the shift ... staggered home, and back to bed.  Although the nice lady doctor I saw told me to stay home for another week ... and gave me a pressie -

I have just gone and signed on for the rest of my training shifts this morning.

Before that I went and had the first (of 3) of my Hepatitis B and MMR jabs. Let me assure you that if you hear of a child that cries when it has it's MMR, don't be suprised - they are sore.

They also checked for a BCG (TB) scar, and because they couldn't find mine, I have to go for testing at some point!
