This morning after breakfast I just had a short walk around where I lived, and look at all the beautiful flowers I saw. I was amazed at the range seeing as it's been so cold and wet recently!

The weekend went well.

My shift on Saturday went well ... not too many nutters out and about asking random questions ... I think they all turned up the previous day!  However both days there was some sunshine, so nice to see ... let's hope that means we are at long last getting into better weather.

Let's catch up on the questions -

4. May the fourth be with you - it's Star Wars Day! Have you a favourite Star Wars film or perhaps you've never seen them? Have you seen any of them more than once?

I really do like the original trilogy

5. It's World Laughter Day - what made you laugh recently?

When I was chatting to a friend yesterday she was telling me a tale about herself and her half-brother.

6. Orson Wells was born today in 1915 - have you seen any of his films?

Don't think so ... I would need to Google to confirm either way.

Right I am going to post this, as I want to get some icons sorted.

Giro was a German shepherd that belonged to the German ambassador to the United Kingdom, Leopold von Hoesch. As, by this time, the German government was under Adolf Hitler, it has been described as Britain's only Nazi memorial. Flowers are put on Giro's tombstone every February

It isn't far from St James park ... which brings back great memories as while at college we usually had our lunch there, so 4 years of good memories.

Back in 1979 we were evacuated from the building that we were using for our college due to a Bomb Scare from theI IRA.  I walked to Westminster Abbey, and in the ground between that and St Margaret's the Field of Remembrance was set up by the Royal British Legion.  Afetr that I went every year I lived in Essex (used to meet up with a couple of WWII veterans).  And, every November I have been to London I have been back -

Cotehele still has a working Watermill that grinds flour ... and there are other workshops there.  Wheelwrights, saddlers, etc.   Where there had been a working quay it is now a visitor centre, and still used for trips along the river ... and a Cornish Gig Club.

Clinic today!  As yesterday was a Bank Holiday I though today would be my "Monday" which always seems bad.  However I was actually home 1/2 an hour early ... and the 3 patients (one cancelled and one no-show) were really nice men.  So a lovely clinic ... now, does that mean the rest of the week is going to make up for it!!

I had a nice lazy couple of days - but actually got a few jobs done that needed doing, so a positive time, as well.

On Sunday I actually walked to The Salvation Army Citadel ... for a variety of reasons we didn't have an on-line service organised.  We still have the builders in, so no morning service.  It was a really nice walk (35 mins each way), and a nice service.  Great to hear the silver band, as well.  For years I played in a Miltary Band (as one of the few non-military), so it was good to hear the close harmony of the music.

Now we are progressing through the week ... Tuesday already.  I have done some shopping as well.

So, all in all, it's a good day.

After I have posted this I will post some photos that I took on Brenda's birthday ... but, before I go -

31. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet?

Jaykub ... a 14.2 Welsh Cob pony  (& DJ ... a 14.1 Connemara pony)
Perry was the biggest of the dogs - a Cocker Spaniel, but big for his breed

Jiffy was the smallest of them all - but gave me an excuse to use this icon!

I have just had a lovely 5 mile walk with Christine - again around the Newton Abbot area.  Amazing how much colder it was today than, Friday.  We even had a few spots of rain while we sat and ate our pasties.  Again. lovely areas to walk, and we saw Puritan's Pit, which was founded at the restoration of King Charles II in a collapsed limestone cavern - as you can see it is very overgrown, although Christine can remember it being used for a special service back in the 1980's

Yesterday we had a good service at Church - and I had a lovely roast lamb meal at my brothers ... yummy
Easter_Sunday_2021_(1)

I also have tomorrow off work (no clinic running), so have no excuse not to do housework :(  But when I have finished this I am going to do some of my jigsaw puzzle.  So, overall, I will have had a really nice Easter weekend ... and all without breaking any of the lockdown rules.

However, as ever, before I go -

5. What was your first pet?

The first dog was called Scrappy.  She died when I was 6 but sadly I have absolutely no memory of her.  I think I was probably very upset so hid her in my inner memories.

Our next Spaniel was my shadow when I was in my early 20's.  His name was Perry and sadly died in my arms of a heart attack when he was a month short of his 5th birthday.

Well that's the USA version, and makes more sense as a title than my English version of "Third time lucky".  But after a week MIA this is my third post in an hour!!

I have been at work this week again - just mornings, and yes, have had to rest each afternoon ... just for about 30minutes, so that's better than it has been.  In actual fact the hospital is very busy with over twice as many patients with Covid than in the main lockdown in the Spring.  Add to that the fact that the small departemt I work in actually has a third of the staff off with confirmed cases it really brings it home ... and really frustrated when the first patient on Monday couln't see why he had to wear his mask ... sometimes I want to "shake people until their teeth rattle"!!!  However on a positive note, we were all tested this week, and the option to be tested at any time, day or night, is available to all staff.

Anyway, on a more cheerful note I bring a photo .... I took the unopened tins etc that I had got for Jiffy to a RSPCA dog's home, but due to Covid, they didn't want any clothes/toys etc.  So I have kept the jumpers to either give to a Charity Shop, or to send to a home once the crisis is fully over.  But some of the toys I gave to a friend from work who had bought a puppy in the summer.  Buddy, the Sprocker, also gained the opened boxes of biscuits ... but this photo was one Ana sent me of Buddy playing with the goose toy.  Jiffy loved the noise it made, but it was a bit too big for him ... BUddy loves it

IMG_20201115_WA0000

Well, that's me up to date - I must get going, as I want to go shopping.  Only supermarkets are open, but, that's good as it's food I need!

Hope that you are all keeping well & safe.

My cousin has just sent me this link - I haven't shown Jiffy in case he get's ideas!

If you love graveyards then Edinburgh is certainly a place to go. Literally around the Old Town are 4 Kirkyards/Burial Grounds that I went to, and a little further out were even more. Burial in Churches was banned in the 1660's, and so the elaborate memorials we see in English Churches just moved outside ... and amazingly are still in good condition.

However, anyone who doesn't like graves has to go and see one grave, of they never visit another ... that of Greyfriars' Bobby. Just outside the Kirkyard is his statue, and it is good luck to rub his nose. I don't actually believe in luck, but still couldn't resist. And for those who are confused, I will "borrow" Wikipedia ...

Bobby belonged to John Gray, who worked for the Edinburgh City Police as a nightwatchman. When John Gray died he was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard, the kirkyard surrounding Greyfriars Kirk in the Old Town of Edinburgh. Bobby then became known locally, spending the rest of his life sitting on his master's grave.

In 1867 the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Sir William Chambers, who was also a director of the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, paid for Bobby's licence and gave the dog a collar, now in the Museum of Edinburgh.

Bobby is said to have sat by the grave for 14 years. He died in 1872 and was buried just inside the gate of Greyfriars Kirkyard, not far from John Gray's grave.

While I was in Edinburgh, as I said I couldn't get to Holyrood as the Queen was in residence ... however I did get to see the Church she went to on the Sunday morning (although I went to the Cathedral instead!!). She goes to Canongate Church .... and yet again, it has an amazing Kirkyard

For some unknown reason my computer uploaded these photos in a random order ... so they will get posted as they are!!

They are basically from 4 museums ... I tend to visit the 3 of them each time I am in London, but however many times I visit, there is always something more to see.  Sometimes because they have added new displays, sometimes because I am just more observant!!

As you may have seen, I have been MIA, which is why I need to do catch-up. I have been to Auntie Joyce's 90th birthday last Friday. She is Dad's sister, and as you can see that like Dad 2 years ago, she doesn't really look 90.

 photo D20170127Kirby_Church 7 of 29-3_zpskvvmmyyn.jpg

There are a few more photos that I took and will post in the next couple of days.

Anyway, here is my 365 meme catch-up!

26 - List your pets.

In the past Mum & Dad had 3 spaniels.
Scrappy, a golden one who died when she was 13 and I was 6.
Perry (my first love), a blue roan, and died a month before his 5th birthday.
Misty, a white & orange, who was 15 1/2 when he died.

Now there is Jiffy a Westie who is 10 1/2 now ...and as mad as ever.

My other "first love" was Jaykub, a Welsh Cob cross, who died when he was 10, and then I had my namesake, DJ, a dappled grey Connemara on loan until he was 10 (he now lives in Windsor)

27 - Today I felt really secure knowing ______

That I was able to be with Auntie Joyce on her birthday.

28 - Whose life did you make a difference in today?

I spent the day with Jiffy and Auntie Joyce, but don't know if I made any difference there.  However I did buy Claire's birthday pressie, so next week that will make a diffenence to her!

29 - What is your super power?

To be able to spot a spider and run away!

The list of 365 questions can be found here

Work is great, but still only doing half days as I am shattered, although I know that the furniture moving is both stressing and tiring me. Ended up sleeping for an hour this afternoon.

I haven't forgotten you all, just needing to be careful about my energy levels, with all the furniture moving on Saturday and Tuesday.

So will catch up .... I promise.

However, I just wanted to share this video. Great to see war heroes being honoured, especially our 4 (3) legged soldiers.

Being a dad is no easy job. Just ask Kito, who becomes a new daddy and has his hands full looking after his new babies. This humorous commercial from Belgium-based energy company Electrabel, shows just how much extra energy goes into raising youngsters…especially when you have a litter of puppies to look after! It’s very cute, and it gets you thinking about just how much energy consumption you use in your daily life!

Not really here as I am having a cleaning +++ day at Mum & Dads. But One of my nephews told me to see this - Stunning. I must get Jiffy to watch it.
