Best Director — Victor Fleming

... but I have just got back from collecting my prescription. I have been taking Thyroxine for about 10 years, and todays boxes are a lot bigger than the normal ones. Just a small piece of cardboard, I know, but multiply that by many thousands ... and that is a lot of extra paper.

Oh well - at least I have the treament I need, so on a scale of one to ten, that's the important fact ... thank you NHS

As I don't really have any news I thought I would post a few icons from posts where they had to be entered secretly. .... As ever, they are all snaggable, and the credits are mostly over on my icon journal, [livejournal.com profile] d4s_icons

8 When you are watching films do you Google the actors to find out if they are still alive and/or what else they have been in?

Since having a lap-top I tend to often head to the Wikepedia page of the film ... and then often look at the links as well - so, yes, I do.  However until I had to answer this question I hadn't realised how often I did it!!

10 Icons

Saturday, March 30th, 2019 12:47 pm
debris4spike: (Tea + Hope)
Just under the wire, I have done these icons for Round 22 of [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo ... I will admit I am less pleased with them, than most, but wanted to participate as I do enjoy the challenge, and this is a lovely community.

So, our challenge was to make 10 icons form film posters ... here are the 10 (I haven't bothered with a cut)

1.   photo rare-vintage-1980-collectors-iconic-movie-poster-gone-with-the-wind-1939-7198_zpsdqjv0vrp.jpg  2.   photo rare-vintage-1980-collectors-iconic-movie-poster-gone-with-the-wind-1939-7198 2_zpsxkfodihw.jpg  3.   photo Untitled_zpspxnewr0r.jpg

4.   photo Longest Day_zps2oeeixxt.jpg  5.   photo passchendaele-poster1a_zpsouhzwlfj.jpg 6.   photo passchendaele-poster1b_zpsb3v5rk9o.jpg

As ever all are snaggable

However under here are the actual posters I used )

And so, as my icon states ... I need a cup of tea!

Hope that your Saturday is going well.  I have been busy so far ... shopping, painting a small section of outside wall that needed it, and finishing these icons.  So lunch, and a cuppa are calling
debris4spike: (St Georges Day)
I noted I was the only one wearing a red rose today at Church, or among the few I met or our weekly wander round the cemetery. But, that won't stop me wearing it for the rest of the day ... and again, next year!

"This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England."

(Shakespeare's Richard II)

"Cry God for Harry, England, and Saint George!"
(Shakespeare's Henry V, Act III)

The other good point about St. George's Day is that it means I have popped into LJ, and managed to catch up with a few of your posts, and have even snagged a film meme from [livejournal.com profile] petzipellepingo ... the only problem is that it does call them movies, not films!!

Here's the Film thingy! )

365 Meme Day 44 - 46

Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 12:48 pm
debris4spike: (James - actoring theories)
I told you I was all behind - so here is another catch-up

44 - How important do you think education is?

I have a degree as I trained to be an osteopath, my dad and one of my brothers did PhD's. However my mum left school early.

I do think a lot of people get a degree but then don't know what to do with it. So that seems a waste of 3-4 years to me.

I think education is something we can all do day by day as the years go along. However I do wish that people could be educated in manners from an early age!

45 - List five celebrities that you’re attracted to.

James
Cary Grant
Steve McQueen
Tom Hanks
... and James!

46 - What is your favorite movie? What is it about?

Actually I don't have a #1 favourite. It will change from day to day to day. Some of my super favourites are :-

The Sound of Music
Fiddler on the Roof
Operation Petticoat
White Christmas
You've Got Mail
Apollo 11

etc

I am sure you know all these films, so not worth explaining them.

The list of 365 questions can be found here

YOUR FAVOURITE FILM

Another very hard choice, as I have loads of favourites, and a lot depends on what mood I am in.  I love 40/50's films ... musicals especially.  And I have favourite actors like Cary Grant, Doris Day, Danny Kaye, etc. I do also love Will Hay films and The Marx Brothers films ... yes, I'm a bit mad!

Some of my favourite films are -
Guys and Dolls
Arsenic and Old Lace.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Fiddler on the Roof.
Carry on ... Up The Khybur/Screaming/Cleo
Passport to Pimlico
etc

And, of course, one actor I must mention is James Marsters.  I love all his work, but am especially fond of Moonshot, as I remember standing in our back garden watching Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon!  (I do also love Appollo 13, which never fails to grip me with the story)

debris4spike: (James - actoring theories)
As I have been a bit disjointed I thought I would do a link page every 100 films ... that way I don't feel bad if I miss a few days.

1 - Moonshot
2 - Guys & Dolls
3 - The Longest Day
4 - Star wars
5 - The Jungle Book
6 - Hello Dolly
7 - Where Eagles dare
8 - Some Like It Hot
9 - Gone With The Wind
10 - The Scarlet Pimpernal

I bet most of you knew all of those, or had at least heard of them ... the next 10 will (I hope) be totally unusual, yet still favourites of mine!

100 Meme - Film #8

Friday, May 25th, 2012 10:26 am
debris4spike: (Cary Grant - shenaninans)
I am doing a brief catch up on my 100 meme as I have been missing for so long. Thought I would share one of our family favourite films ... certainly one of Dad's.

Some Like it Hot .... Marylyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Prohibition days ... in an all girl band (yes, you read that correctly!) Tony Curtis as a girl in half the film, and in the other half paying homage to Cary Grant. Jack Lemmon ending up engaged to a (male) millionaire. Not forgetting gangsters having a couple of fatal shoot-outs.

Best Moments of "Some Like It Hot"

And for anyone who wants to see a clip -

Marilyn Monroe singing one of my favourite songs of hers.

100 Meme Decision

debris4spike: (James - actoring theories)
I have decided what I am going to do for my 100 meme ... and you can skip or not ... up to you.

I have an love of old-fashioned films ... and rarely watch a modern one.  So, I thought I would write about 100 films ... as most of you won't know them, and probably won't even of heard of some of them.

I shall do them as I get round to it.  So, if I get time there will be a couple posted ... or if busy it will be a few days between posts.  Every so often I shall do a list of links in case you miss one and want to know about it.

Whether you read or not, I want to know, myself, why I like these films.

The first one, is a more modern film .... although not well known, as such, but holds a special place in my heart for lots of reasons ... any guesses?

Hope I don't bore you ... they will all be behind cuts so as not to SPAM your f-list.

PS - Happy Monday
