YOUR FAVOURITE FILM

Another very hard choice, as I have loads of favourites, and a lot depends on what mood I am in.  I love 40/50's films ... musicals especially.  And I have favourite actors like Cary Grant, Doris Day, Danny Kaye, etc. I do also love Will Hay films and The Marx Brothers films ... yes, I'm a bit mad!

Some of my favourite films are -
Guys and Dolls
Arsenic and Old Lace.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Fiddler on the Roof.
Carry on ... Up The Khybur/Screaming/Cleo
Passport to Pimlico
etc

And, of course, one actor I must mention is James Marsters.  I love all his work, but am especially fond of Moonshot, as I remember standing in our back garden watching Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon!  (I do also love Appollo 13, which never fails to grip me with the story)

Round 64 of [livejournal.com profile] character20n20 is the only set I have managed to get done this month ... and as it was, again, James as Buzz Aldrin, I had to make the time, didn't I?

Here are the 3 teasers -

You all know (I hope!) that I love James ... I love his work as a brilliant actor.  But if I start typing about him I will run out of "paper"!!

However the choice of this set of icons made for Round 57 of [livejournal.com profile] character20n20  is that of Buzz Aldrin.

James portrayed this amazing character in the film Moonshot, that was released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 on the moon.  I was fascinated by the story, as I was old enough to remember standing in my back garden and looking up at the moon.  I remember being sad that I couldn't actually see the shpace craft!  Since then I loved the whole space exploration programme, including going to a shop during college hours to watch the first shuttle return to earth!

When you see the documentaries, and the film(s ... including Apollo 13), you begin to see what amazing people these early astronauts are.  They were clever (++++), and brave ... as were the background crew, and the families.

So, I hope I have done justice to both the wonderful James, but also to the men of the Astronaut Core ... I salute you.

The three teasers are -

Day 01 - Sequel that should not have been made ... The Trail of the Pink Panther

Day 02 - Movie that you think more people should see

The film I have chosen doesn't have a You Tube link - so you just get a photograph of "the" star!  The film is Moonshot, and is about the landing on the moon of Apollo 11.

I chose it, not just because it's James, but it shows the sheer tenacity of human spirit ... Those men were brave, clever ... and mad!  Their wives had a tough life, as well.

When you see it, you are reminded that man got to the moon using their brains ... no major computers ... and no guarantee that they would return.  How's that for a positive show of the true meaning of human spirit.

For me, I watched the event in my back garden with mum and dad ... and 40 years later, I watched the film with Mum and dad ... and without them knowing who the actor was who portrayed Buzz ldrin!

This is just a short post with a few thoughts about Moonshot.  I saw the film twice last week - the second time was to watch it with Mum and Dad ... so a double reason to squeeee ... I could share James with them!!

My overall thought is that the film was too short - I needed more, not just more James, but the whole film was great.

There were some truly memorable scenes IMHO ... and I have listed those in no particular order behind the cut, in case any of you haven't seen it.

Random moon-thoughts ... )

So, 40 years ago, I watched the actual event with Mum and Dad ... and now the film ... An amazing story, and just bautiful to watch James given such a role.

Yes, can't wait - 40 years ago I remember standing in my back garden with Dad looking up at the moon - Now I know who I was looking for - James. On Monday ITV (in England) is showing the film, and in case you have forgotten - James is playing Buzz Aldrin.

I don't usually buy a TV Mag, but have just bought TV Times and have scanned in the interview that was in there - one with James ... they are behind the cut ... Just hope this works!!!!

Just found out that Moonshot premiere in UK is on Monday 20th July 2009 on ITV1

Great - it's on the actual anniversary.

For me, this is a film I really want to say - and yes, I can all hear you groaning as you know I happen to "like" one of the actors!!!  However, it is also because, 40 years ago, I remember standing in my back garden with Dad and looking up at the moon - trying to see the module.

I didn't know it then, but it was obviously James I was trying to spot!!!!!

No, in reality, it is one of those early memories that have stuck with me, and given me a love of Space travel.
