Yay, I Made It Back!

My computer is on a go-slow so the photos aren't organised yet ... but they will be up soon, I promise.

So, I am going to just post this quickly and go back to that, as I am working again later.

So -

20. Own up – do you have a drawer in your home with stuff you don’t know what to do with, or shove things that you’ll ‘sort out later’ in it? How often do you clear it out?

Most people will say that my whole house is like that!!!

Will hopefully post photos tomorrow x
debris4spike: (Default)
That has been a good, but busy 4 days ... now for the rest of the week I am just covering for a couple of hours each morning. I saw the lady that I am covering today when she came in for her hospital appointment. She is having major eye problems, that I can sympathise with having had surgery, but 10 days on her eye isn't getting better. So that's a worry for her.

Today I want to actually get some art work done if possible, but also some time away from the computer ... it is nice to be able to relax my eyes for aa few hours.

So ...

6. In 1991 Tim Berners-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web. WWW debuted as a publicly available service on the Internet today. In what way does access to the web help you in day-to-day life?
Well, I wouldn’t be chatting to ll of you if I didn’t have WWW, would I?

Hoping you are all well ... will try and catch up later x

I Am More Than Angry

Monday, May 20th, 2024 11:46 am
debris4spike: (Default)
Just got back from a walk and shopping, and I am really angry.

Just about 5 minutes walk from my house is a lovely park ... I have posted photos of it in the past. Well over the weekend apparently there was an illegal party .... And considering how much rubbish they left it must have been big. There was stuff scattered and about 50 bin-bags. There was also a large set, and bizarrely a door.

They also cut down some trees and just left them.

Yes I am irate.

It isn't often that I get angry about something, but I think the thing that really upset me, is that it is such beautiful space ... and used by so, so many people. There are always runners, walkers, kids, dogs ... there's a football pitch etc.

So I think rather than enjoy my walk in green space in lovely weather, it is just more than frustrated me.

Right, rant over!!!

And, to think the morning had started OK ... I had eventually managed to get my work computer sorted out, ready for this afternoon's work.

So I must get on ... I want to get caught up with my replies to you all. And, before I did that -

Bees are really important for the pollination of plants and they make delicious honey. Do you like honey?
No - only use it occasionally in cookery, as well.

Right let's get this posted x

Weekend #1 Of 2024

Saturday, January 6th, 2024 11:41 am
debris4spike: (Default)
Yes, we have completed the first week of the year ... scary when you think about it that way!

Sadly, as I wondered, my bad eye is very sore after all the computer focus I did yesterday, so am not going to spend much time on-line today, and as ever nothing at all tomorrow. Then next week I start again!

I had a shorter than I was aiming for walk. I had to go to the shop, but as it was so bright my eye was not impressed. The iris does not contract with light, so not great. Normally on bright days I live in sunglasses for that reason, but forgot them today. Oh well, as you can see I did walk via the local park (which is about 7 minutes walk from me). The houses you can see on the right are where I took these photos of the athletes ... there are about 6 such statues there.

A bright day -
6th January (1)

6th January (4)

6th January (2)

6th January (3)

So, as I said I am going to be a good girl, and get some baking done, and maybe some mending that I need to do ... yes I am going to be a good girl and sew on some loose buttons, rather than just recycle the cardigan!

So, I shall sign off with [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee's meme ... Enjoy your weekend

6. In 1945 Pepé Le Pew, the cartoon character was created by Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese, and voiced by Mel Blanc. Are you a fan of the character?
Not really a character I know much about - so am pretty neutral!

7. National Old Rock Day celebrates the history of the Earth - back in the day, you could buy tumblers to polish your own rocks/stones. Have you ever done that?
I didn't, but Mum did back in the 70's. I have a few of those stones in my garden ... they are lovely

Right, see you Monday x
debris4spike: (Default)
Sorry I haven't been around much this week - but have been busy at work, and also had to do a load of e-Learning as I have a course next week, and have to have done "homework" before I got there.  So even though I actually had a day off yesterday I ended up on the computer for over 5 hours ... that much work & pc use meant I didn't want to do anything else ... the brain is still slightly scrambled (or should I say, more scrambled than normal!)

So a busy few days ... but just before I dissappeared I did make these 4 icons for challenge 140 from [livejournal.com profile] your_favourites, with the challenge of "favourite witch", and yes, I like Tara from BtVS ... but my favourites have to be Endora & Samantha from Bewitched ... the 1960's TV show that I grew up with!

3(1) 2(17) 1(19) 4(1)

Now I have had this afternoon off, and although I really want to get my conservatory cleaned that's a job for another day ... so instead I went for a walk round the block ... spring sunshine ... really lovely (and a great escuse for Photo Friday!

So, now I am up to date, well I have done a post, but I haven't answered my meme ... so, here goes -

2. What was one of the most interesting concerts you've been to? What was interesting about it?
I have only been to a few ... James Marsters & Ghost of the Robot.  However I went to leads as a musician ... and one was when the orchestra played "Peter & the Wolf", and I was the clarinetist soloist ... full circle, as Dad had the rcord and when I heard it I loved the music & sound of the cat, which helped me to decide to learn the instrument ... but, it's a real challenge of a piece to play.  So, amazing & interesting.

3. What did you Google last (or Bing, or Duck-Duck-Go, or otherwise search for online)?
Earlier in the week I was working on a Stargate Atlanti fic (my personal challenge) and was trying to remember facts, and failing ... so it was easier to Google to remember which episode I needed to look into further

4. What odd smell do you really like?
I used to love the smell of Jiffy when he was slightly damp.
I used to work near a brewery and I loved the smell of the beginning of the brew process (Mum hated it)

Well, that's me ... I hope to catch up later, but don't know if I will have the brain power!

Enjoy the evening
debris4spike: (Default)
For some reason my computer won't upload the photos at present - so I will post them when I can (the same with Instagram).  I have spent ages trying to see why, but according to all the things I have looked at my computer/internet etc are 100%, and no settings have been changed.

So, I hadn't forgotten - they will arrive, when they can.

This morning I went to a funeral - my second cousin's husband.  He was 80, and had suffered with Parkinsons & Alzheimers for about 10 years, so the last year or so had been very hard for him - and for his family to see what he had become.  The service was lovely, and had 3 hymns which I love.   It was at a Church about an hour's drive from here (& yes, there will be photos at some point), but I didn't go to the wake as it was another hour's drive on from that.  However they didn't leave immediately so I was able to chat to my cousin(s) ... and both gave my condolances as well as share some happy memories from years ago.

I have spent the last hour "arguing with my computer" again ... and trying to thaw out my feet!

So now I am going to go off and pretend I am not frustrated ... but ...

11. What do you think is the most overrated movie?
Everyone always talks about Home Alone ... sorry, I don't get it, at all

Will try and catch up with you all later x
debris4spike: (Default)
Somehow my computer has swallowed my icons that I was in the process of making ... and a few that I had posted for competitions but had yet to share with you all, or save on my icon journal ... [livejournal.com profile] d4s_icons I have tried restoring the files from the cloud back-up but even they are missing, so all in all I am annoyed!  I had started some work on some icons for a competition, and for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy ... luckily only made a few so far, but still super frustrating ... especially as I had actually made a banner for the Spuffy entries.  So, goodness knows where they had all run way to.

Still I must be positive and say that at least my treatment on the ankle is going OK ... I now have a lot of exercises to do, so I must be a good girl to let the recovery continue.

Clinics today & yesterday were "interesting".  Today we had 4 profoundly deaf partients, so I now have a slightly sore throat!  Yesterday our first patient turned up and then asked to be taken to A&E as he wasn't feeling very well ... and it turned out he had been like that for almost a week.  So, why did he come?  Another patient yesterday arrived and as I called him in he told me that he wasn't staying as he didn't like hospitals!  So despite me trying to persuade him, or at least speak to the physiologist, he left.

So all in all an odd couple of days!

Oh well, I must start trying to sort icons out again ... without glaring at the screen too much.  But, before I go -

4. How long have you known the last person you text messaged?
All his life!  It was my brother, who is 6 years younger than me ... so I have known him 54 years

5. Do you keep notes, drawings or letters that people give you?
Yes .... in fact I am a total hoarder

No News, Is No News

debris4spike: (Default)
But still managed to post this!

1. Have there been any periods in your life that could be described as being chaotic?
Some odd hours, most days, can feel a bit chaotic ... but nothing long-term

Clinic was OK, with only one no-show today.  Had a walk, but not as far as I had planned as I am a bit tired, as well as it is warm again.  Nice to actually get some sunshine (for a change)

My computer is still debating whether they will upload my photos ... so that post won't be today

Hope you are all well x
debris4spike: (Default)
And, had hoped to post a few photos as well .... but

  • The computer is on a go-slow for uploading the photos, so I shall smile sweetly, and hope to get to share the photos with you at some point!

  • Yesterday was not a good day, so after work, and a walk, I slept most of the afternoon

  • Yes, although not a football fan I did watch some of the England v. Germany match ... nice to be on  the winning sde!!

And now we are at today.

  • Today is my baby brother's birthday.  My memory of 54 years ago, is of being told off!!  My other brother & I spent time in the garden, and we went paddling in a large puddle.  Yes, I remembered to take both our shoes open, but forgot to remove the white socks Nick & I were wearing.  So, don't remember Tim arriving (he was born at home). just know I got told off.

  • For the 3rd day in a row we saw a boy who was aged under 10 (in fact yesterday we saw a 16 year old, as well)  All the boys were really nice, and makes life easier.

  • Other than our 3 year old patient we saw one other man, and the other 3 were no-shows!

  • I got home early, which was lovely ... and lucky as I had organised for a horologist to come at 1pm, or later ... he was 1/2 hour early.  So both my Mum's Grandfather's wall clocks are now off for repair.  Both are 1870's - 1880's, and Mum has had both since their wedding in 1952 ... so I inherited them a few years ago, as neither brother wanted them.

  • Had a great walk, and now am here to try and get some icons finished, as well as hope the photos upload.

But, as ever, before I do other things -

29. Did you go to your high school’s homecoming dance?
We didn't have one - but wouldn't have gone if we had

30. Who taught you how to drive?
Mum took me out for my first drive.  After that I had 2 instructors - Collin & Bob

Well that's me back up to date - hopefully I will try to catch up with you all this evening.

15 Assorted Icons

I have made these icons for challenge #7 of [livejournal.com profile] somein30

It has been an interesting challenge, with working on images, etc, that I wouldn't normally use.  So I don't know how good they are, but at least they pushed my brain a bit ... which is good for me.

So, here are my 3 teasers, and the full set, plus the challenge, is below the cut -

Hope you enjoyed!

Yesterday I had work cancelled due to the fact there was no one to actually run the clinic ... pretty good reason I suppose!  Although it was annoying to lose the 3 hours pay, I decided that the time off would be good for me health wise.

I then decided that for some of that spare morning I would start to write some Christmas letters as there always seem to be no real time.  I have a few friends I just contact at Christmas, and have inherited some of Mum & Dad's friends as well.  So, great, my day had a plan!

I turned on the PC ... and, needn't have bothered!  Yes the intermittant problems had added together to leave me with a useless box of electronic bits!  Oh well, annoying, and expensive, but something I had been semi expecting!  So, I picked up the car keys to drive to the shop ... to find that the battery had gone in the car-key, so had no alarm/automatic locking.  So, #2

Anyway I spent yesterday beginning to set up the new pc, and continued this morning.  I wrote a letter to USA, and one to Australia ... only to find that my printer has also died!

#3

So, frustrating ... although, at least I have been off work so I can get the things repaired/replaced.  Although off work means no money, so thanks Mum & Dad for the new computer.

Oh well .. off printer shopping later.

Hope eveyone else is having a better day than me!

What A Day

Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 11:18 am
debris4spike: (No time)
Well today is my posting day over at [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy ... and over the last couple of weeks I have made 40 icons.  Brilliant I hear you say!  Well, it would be brilliant if my lap-top that I made them on hadn't died last night!  And, I mean totally dead ... so as soon as I have scribbled this I have to get my thinking cap on and make some more icons!

Added to that today I should have been on holiday (so I only signed up to do the icons when I knew that had been cancelled).  I was due to be visiting some WWI sites this week, and this afternoon shoud have been at the tank museum at Cambrai.  I had been especially looking forward to that as I wanted to get my photo taken with their prize exhibit - a WWI tank, called Deborah!!!  Yes all the early tanks had female names beginning with D, and one they have on display is my name.
 photo ct1917cf-moreau-98-100410_2_zpsm6c2euqx.jpg

It was really appropriate that it was going to be today, as it is also the anniversary of my namesake's birth DJ (my initials)  is 21 today!

So, Happy Birthday boy

I had planned to get caught up with the meme, but looks like icons call, so will get that done later (or tomorrow)

Must rush -- Hope you are all well and safe x
debris4spike: (Spike - with white frame)
I collected my computer a couple of days ago before the shop closed for ... (however long)

However as it is an intermittent fault they hadn't been able to sort it out, but think it's something to do with the fan.  So I can only use it for short times here & there.  Still I can keep in touch with people so that's the main thing ... but may not be around much

Hope you are all keeping safe.  I am still off work after the virus that floored me at Christmas ... so the rest of the world is worried about Corona ... I am still recovering from the previous one!  Much of Exeter is "behaving" and keeping off the streets, but there are still people around who think they are off work/school for a holiday.

I actually took Jiffy to have a haircut today ... vetinary care is still happening, and for an almost 14 year old dog who has had a skin problem for 10 years  I felt it needed to go ahead.  While he was being pampered I did some shopping, and then had my walk (in a cemetery), and will post photos when I can upload them.  Poor Jiffy has slept since we got home ... it's what he does a lot of the time anyway.

So now for the next few days (or even more), other than short strolls with Jiffy I can stay in.

On one point of good news it was announced that we get 2 Dresden books this year ... after such a long wait, that is brilliant news.

Everyone keep safe xx

Off-Line

Friday, March 20th, 2020 04:17 pm
debris4spike: (No time)
Just signing on briefly "elsewhere" to say as of yesterday I am off-line as my computer has died.  I am having it looked at, but it will be some time for that, and if not, will have to buy a new one.

So will return ... when I return

Bye!  See you on the flip side

At Long Last .....

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 12:11 pm
debris4spike: (Ow - look of shock on face)
.... I have my new router so can try to keep up to date from now on (*fingers crossed*)

Well that's the good news .... the bad news is OUCH .....

As you know, I have been battling the tooth problem from Easter, and last week had the tooth taken out.  End of problem, HA HA.  Apparantly 1 : 10,000 extractions give something called a "dry socket" ; in other words the hole refuses to heal.  So I had the socket cleaned and packed yesterday and started on penocillin, and have to return for more treatment in a couple of days.  They think it may take up to 6 months to heal :(

I asked "Why?"; and was told there was absolutely no reason .... so I pointed out that my last extraction went the same way.  Apparantly all that proves is that I am incredibly unlucky ... so, for those who wonder how I got the name Debris, you can see why!!!

Also saw the doctor today as my thyroid has decided to pack up.  The good news is that I now get free prescriptions, the bad news is that it makes my tiredness worse ... so not good to go with the CFS!!

Well must get lunch and head into work.

Will try and catch up with some of those back comments this evening.

Just Popping In!

Sunday, June 5th, 2016 02:17 pm
debris4spike: (James - looking down)
The rest of England has sun, we don't here.

I saw Dad this morning, and as Nick found yesterday he is not doing well, just very very sleepy.  Whether it's the weather, or just "that time", I don't know, so am going to do a bit on LJ, (hopefully I shall catch up with you all even if I don't get time to comment)  and then do some art work to try to focus on other things.

I have letters I really need to write, so hopefully will get a lot done.

Love & hugs.
debris4spike: (Not pleased.)
I was going to "pop" in to moan about the book I finished last night, to find that my pc had updated itself to Windows 10, and I had to find where things were - luckily I found LJ, so the rest will have to wait until I get that illusive spare minute!!

Anyway, my book.  Story synopsis is girl in her 20's is being stalked, so mother asks a family friend to move in while they find a way to get him caught by the police, so not just cautioned.  Family friend has a nephew staying, and as the story progresses you see that the 2 pairings are slowly building.  It's well written, and flows well.  So, last night I had the last couple of chapters to read and although tired wanted to know what happened.

So last couple of pages, stalker is caught ... THE END!!   Not even a final ... "one year later", or the promise of a sequal, so annoying!

So whereas I would have said it's a good book, now I am left totally in the air and not even enough to set my immagination fully going.  Oh well, lets just add a last line, shall we - "And, they all lived happily ever after".  Yes, much better!

Right must fly - off to dad's, then lunch then work this afternoon.  Have a good day everyone.

Catch Up Time

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 08:43 pm
debris4spike: (Yoda - Keep Calm)
Sorry ... I seem to start all my posts like that!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes .... I hope I managed to catch up with them all.  Sadly my birthday wasn't great as Mum was taken ill.  I had to take Dad to see the Dermatologist, and that clinic was running an hour late.  He got the all-clear, which was good news.  When we got back, mum was very wobbly, so rather than the Chinese take-away, I ended up making dinner.  In the afternoon I opened Tim and Nick's pressies.  Both my brothers know me well .... jewellery!  I have yet to get anything from Mum & Dad  ... but there again, that's not what life is about.

I went back to Exeter that night late, but after 1/2 hour in work I had a call from Mum to say she had collapsed.  So I ran, calling an ambulance on the way.  I then spent the next 3 days trying to get her to eat, and to drink.  We had to call out an ambulance another twice as she fell and I couldn't get her up.  She is now fine, but still feeling very week.

Jiffy had his op on his rectum on the Friday.  He had a small growth, which has tested as benign, although the vet warned it may return.  He was very sore for a couple of days, and then the heat increased, so he is flaked out again.

I did quite a lot of gardening, so that was back-breaking, but nice to be out in the fresh air.

Yesterday I had a rough day as I think the the stress, and the broken nights suddenly caught up with me.

On non-health notes, my computer had totally died, so I am back to square one, having to slowly upload everything.  I was really thankful I had taken out cloud cover.

Hope all is well with you all
*hugs*

PS - Hope you like the new icon, my brother bought me a t-shirt with that logo on.
debris4spike: (Irrisistible)
Firstly, yes I did end up with a blue screen on my pc, so although I am only here briefly, I can't catch up, or do some art work.

So the pc is off to repair. Luckily I had the extended warranty as it was on special offer when I bought the machine. There was only a few weeks to go so I was very lucky. The other great thing is that after all my absence over this last year, I had bought cloud storage .... so at least I know I haven't lost anything.

I have also decided to be a very, VERY bad girl and delete most of my inbox, as the replies I owe are from ages ago. So if you asked anything, then please forgive me ... and re ask. I just think that it was a bit silly to comment on comments that you won't remember posting in the first place. So I will re-set my journal .... and promise to keep up from now on.

Over the last couple of weeks I have managed to have an hour's rest each afternoon that has really helped. I still get tired but at least I don't feel I am about to collapse. So good news.

Mum and Dad continue to potter along, although both are that bit worse, both physically and mentally. I do make sure that Jiffy has some fun each day. We have a good walk .... nice for us both.

Well I think that's me up to date, as nothing changes for me. When I am at mum and dad s I will try and get the photos posted from my day out a few weeks ago.

Group hugs .... and apologies again.

Hi

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015 06:05 pm
debris4spike: (James - buzz cut & name.)
I have been very bad at keeping up to date, haven't I? No excuses as I now have the small tablet, and the fact that I am beginning to feel a bit better, which considering how much stress I have at home is great news. The Cranial treatments are really helping me to feel stronger, more focussed, and less tired.

Still I have been bad, so have decided to snag the month's meme from [livejournal.com profile] teragramm ... although I know it wont get done everyday, at least I will "have to" get more organised.

ExpandThe meme questions )

I have also made a couple more icons for [livejournal.com profile] historamedy365 ... with the theme "hug"

 photo cygnus102_zpsdistdipm.jpg photo btvs301_065sd_zpsxtculngm.jpg

I didn't work this afternoon, so have actually got some housework done at my house. Sorted out my shed, as well. As a treat I do get myself a Chinese take-away on a Wednesday ... always the same ... Chicken & cashew nut, with egg-fried rice. Once I have had that I shall return to the pc and try to get some more stuff done, es[ecially the comments I need to reply to.

*hugs*
