Yesterday was one of those days that was "nice"

Although an early start to get to the opticians I was told that, although I have lost some of my field of vision on my bad eye, my overall vision is un-changed.  Also the catarct on my good eye has not changed at all.  He also gave me some advice about "dry-eyes" and computer use, so all in all, a good appointment.  So I don't need to have another appointment until next year.

Work was a short shift, and really went well.  No real problems ... no-one swearing at me, the volunteers were both in a good mood ... so all in all OK

The evening was nice and relaxing ... the jigsaw began to pull together after a long struggle, and I watched an old favourite film on DVD

I also heard that nephew #2 & partner had got their house, finally, so I am happy that things are working out for him, as he previous girlfriend really screwed up his life a few years ago.

So, yes, a nice day

Now I have got to get some shopping done, before heading off to work, so ....

28. When was the last time you spent a night (or more than one night) away from home?

My birthday weekend ... I stayed at Nick & Brenda's for the weekend.

See you tomorrow.

Just as I got in from Church on Sunday a friend text me to say that the lady doing the afternoon/evening shift at the Reception had phoned in sick.  Mel wondered if I could do it ... and I agreed, so Mel said she would let the team know.

Shift went well ... no roblems.

This morning when I was in clinic I saw the "boss" and we were talking about the weekend ... so I pointed out that I had worked both days in the end.  She looked shocked ... and asked which Sunday shift I had done, and I told her.  She said "OH"  and explained she had just confirmed the other (cancelled) shift as worked.  Apparently the lady had not cancelled it on the system (as we can), but just let my friend know (who let the 2nd in charge know ... who is actually off sick today).  So .... I do wonder how she thought she could get away with that.  Iroronically if Mel had asked anyone else they would have booked it as overtime on a different system, so she would have got away with the pay!!

Well, it's now up on my "calender" so at least the boss has got that bit sorted.

The opticians appointment went OK ... good, and bad, news.  I haven't lost too much more sight in my right eye, however have developed cataracts in both eyes.  So that's a problem for the future.

Ihave 3 days of photos, as I have Sunday & Monday to catch up on ... as well as today -

Sunday I finished the last few pieces of my puzzel before I went to work -
15th January (1)

Monday I spotted these flowers.  The plant was a gift from friends of Jiffy's that they gave me when he crossed Rainbow Bridge (over 3 years ago now), so nice to see it looking cheerful again (it's on my lounge window-sill)

Today I walked down to my "corner shop" o get some milk when I got in from work -

I won't be around tomorrow as I am working in clinic tomorrow morning, and then on the Reception desk in the afternoon.  So I shall do 2 of [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cees questions.

Right, let's get this posted -

16. It's Fig Newton (or Fig Roll) Day! Are you a fan?
Never had one - although that's odd, as Dad used to like them.

17. We're halfway through January - what's the weather like where you live?
Cold, dry & sunny ... odd, I hadn't seen the question when I took the photo today.

Right, see you Thursday x

Good News Yesterday

... yes, the optician assured me that the blindness in my eye was no worse this year.  And, although my prescription has worsened a bit, it's not bad enough to need to buy new glasses.  So, all in all a good appointment.  The 20 minute appt last over an hour, though, so ended up catching the bus home.  They have a new scanner thingy for retinas now ... I have had the retinas photographed yearly for about 15 years now, but this is new.  I actually got to see a complete cross section of the layers, which was fascinating.

Clinic was good again today - although we had one patient that was totally deaf ... even yelling in his ear he found it hard to hear.  So, everyone knew what was happening to him at all times ... fine for other members of staff, but not nice for other pateints, although they all seemed very relaxed about it (in fact most of them laughed at watching me struggle!)

Now the afternoon is here again, and I have baking to do.  But, before I head off to do housework and baking ....

28. Did (or does) your family take seasonal vacations?
I presume this means Easter/Christmas. If so, then the answer is no, although we always did, and still do try to catch up with each other for those dates.

Right, that's me up to date again

I Bring Photos

... so hope I am forgiven for only posting twice this week!  However, as it's PhotoFriday I do have photos to share althought this one was actually taken for on a walk with a friend yesterday -

I spent over an hour in the opticians in the end.  All they could, eventually, work out was that I have lost a small amount more of my vision in that eye, but my glasses prescription was completely unchanged.  So, all in all, my eyes were fighting the changes to cope.  There wasn't enough of a retina change to actually make me notice it - but the prescription was obviously different, as the view out of that eye was going to be in a different angle.

Yesterday I went for a walk at Haldon with my friend from work.  She is now back at work mornings and overall is doing well.  However it was nice to have that walk to be able to chat.  So that was 2 busy afternoons, so I didn't get round to switching on my computer.

Today I walked into the city the way I would normally drive (a bit further, as it's just over 2 miles that way, so I had a total of just over 4 miles)

So as you can see there is some more Spring colours ... but also to show you a bit more of the city -

Well that's my photos up to date ... I hope that you are all keeping well and safe

Well I suppose I will find out tomorrow.

I had this morning off which meant I could get an emergency appointment as I had been feeling that my glasses weren't fitting properly (a pain (literally), especially as I have vari-focals).  I wondered if wearing the over-glasses I have to for clinic had caused the problem.  However after 1/2 hour of checks - everything was OK.  However as my notes are marked that I need annual, or less, check-ups they want to see me again tomorrow.  So I am hoping it is just my eyes in general needing a new prescription, even though I was only there 9 months ago.  However the bad news would be that of more loss of sight in my damaged eye ... so, tomorrow afternoon I have an emergency appt.

The good news for both is that it's about 4 miles walk there & back ... so I can certainly have a biscuit, or two, later!

And, of course -

13. What brand are you most loyal to?

Cadbury chocolate
Kellogs cornflakes
... and due to allergy I have Stork block margerine

A couple of days ago I had my annual eye-test.  I go to Boots, which means I see a different optician every time.  I saw a very nice lady this time, but as she sat down I knew she had bad news.  However, as it turned out, it wasn't as bad as she had thought!

One of the tests I had done was the individual eye field of vision, and that is what she wanted to start with ... She needed to tell me I had tested as 50% vision in my right eye.  However it was my turn to reassure her!  I had surgery in that eye back in 1989, and for a few hours I had been totally blind ... then I told her to look at the photo of the rtina.  She was then suprised I could see anything at all!

So, as I pointed out, I have 3/4 vision, but am not really aware of the fact as my left eye compensates most of the time.  On even more good news, no need to change the glasses prescription (so no big bill), and the loss of vision is only marginal compared to last year.

So all in al a positive trip.

And continuing to be positve - lets keep up ....

14 If being permanently stapled to a cello would somehow bring about world peace would you be prepared to be permanently stapled to a cello? It would hurt a little bit and you would never quite be able to escape the pain but there would be world peace and you could learn to play the cello.

i am a clarinetist.  I am a saxophonist.  I don't like stringed instruments ... however at least it's a cello and not a violin.  So, for world peace, ummmmmmm, maybe!!

I haven't turned on LJ in weeks.  I haven't been to music group ... although I have managed to work most of my shifts, and get to Church.

I have been stuck in LIMBO, and am really having to fight to escape.

I am on the countdown to my holiday ... yet am struggling to feel happy about it.  However I have started to sort out my clothes, so that's a step on the way.

I have also started councelling.

So, all in all I will wake up in time for my holiday.

Anyway, in those missing weeks I have missed being part of the friendship and community .... but sadly not enough to break through this terrible darkness.  Today Christine and I went out for lunch and a walk, and that has focussed me enough that I am typing this.

SORRY!

Anyway, I have done a few random things in those weeks ....

  • Went to Auntie Joyce as she asked for help to sort out her garage.  When I got there she changed her mind.  Sadly she also tried re-hashing old family tensions (from before my birth!!).  Then I got stuck in traffic on the way home ... so not the greatest of weekends at all.

  • Jiffy has turned 11, but has managed to stay pretty healthy recently.  So good news, although I suppose he is sad that he hasn't had a chance to visit his much loved vet.

  • Got my bra fitting done and am a inches measurement smaller.  So maybe the gym work is helping after all.

  • Had an opticians appointment and am sadly losing a bit more of the field of vision in my right eye.  I had the retinal op 28 years ago, so am happy to have my sight at all.

  • Dan (19) and Tom (17) have passed their driving tests ... so all the eligible boys are drivers now.

  • Auntie Mary came over for a meal.  She was Mum's best friend, and came down on a coach trip to the area so that she could see me.  It was really special to see her ...  really lovely.  One of thos times when you want to slow the minutes down.

Well it seems as if that's it.  As I said these last few weeks have just drifted past.  I am going to aim to post some of my photos from today's walk this evening.  However I warn you now, that plan my not work.

Hope you are all OK ... any news, let me know please .... and SORRY again
