1. A favorite character
2. Something that makes you laugh
3. A bookshelf
4. A game or hobby you enjoy
5. Something you find comforting
6. A TV show or movie you hope more people will watch
7. A piece of clothing you love
8. A thing from an old fandom
9. A thing from a new fandom

1. Come on, look at my name. It may be the name I chose years ago, but the character of Spike (from BtVS) is still amazing ... love his story, his highs & lows ... and a great actor to portray it!

2. This is a Christmas card made by a friend. I loved the Val Kilmer version of Batman, and love Ewoks (neither of which Chis likes), but she drew this card of Val Kilmer as an Ewok ... but, didn't realise till she saw me open it, that he has 2 sets of ears ... But that just makes the card more special, and gives me a smile.

3. I have got loads & loads of books (& bookshelves), but this small section is special ... books written by my Dad (including his PhD), a poetry book of Mum's poetry, books written by French friends, a couple by one of my brothers ... and a couple written by a friend and partially dedicated to me.

4. I was brought up doing jigsaws, ans still love them. This one was a Christmas gift from a brother, and is of London ... which is a city I visit every year, and love.

5. My faith. For me I love knowing that God is in charge ... and I have a future in Heaven.

6. I rewatch a lot of shows ... most of which have been loved over the years, so hard to find one that needs more viewers. Although Blakes 7 was only ever shown on mainstream TV once, back in the 70's - 80's. I also love The Champions ... a silly show from late 60's.

7. Not a great clothes lover ... although I do still have Mum's wedding dress from 1952

8. As I just said, Blakes 7 is a long-time favourite show ... and I was a member of their fan club during the late 80's ... and this was my mug I used, now in a cabinet in my lounge

9. I tend to enjoy fan-fiction from my newer fandoms ... and these are on my Kindle (this is my one that I bought just before Christms, complete with cover

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

  • I want to get my 2 x W.I.P.s finished.

  • Again I am looking at doing more work on banners etc

  • I want to compltely re-vamp my garden. It had been an aim last year, but I had to have work done and it got completly ignored ... so that's a plan (again) this year.

  • I aim to get back into playing my clarinet & saxophone.

Well, I do wonder how many of those will get done!

.... it's turned cloudy!  What happened to the sunshine?

Yesterday I had a nice lazy day, and did icons (as I ended up posting), and otherwise didn't do any more housework. Actually one other thing I did do was set up my Kindle ... yes, the new one has arrived. I wondered if they would just sort out the battery, or whatever, but no, I have a brand new one ... so that's great (another year of guarantee, and another year delayed before I will need to buy another one!!!)

Now it's the weekend ... I have pottered and lazily done jobs around the house (including moving out my heavy settee and hoovering around, so that was a great positive job and certainly one that doesn't get done regularily! Along the top are a load of teddies ... some are pressies to me, a couple are souveneirs, a couple were Mums ... and a couple were Jiffy. So it was nice to see them all individually and bring back memories.

Now it's late morning and I will soon need to get organised for lunch. Then this afternoon I am going to do a shortish walk, and come back via the shops ... yes, guess what, I need milk. (I drink a lot of tea, and have loads of milk on my cereal, so there always seems to be milk needed)

Then I shall be lazy, again.

But before I go -

15. What social stigma does society need to get over?
That history has happened ... sorry, but sad & bad things have happened. We need to remember the events, good & bad, and learn from them

16. What's the most creative use of emojis you've ever seen?
Don't think I have seen anything special

So, that's me done for the weekend ... hope you all have a great time, and will see you on Monday x

So to finish off my yesterday I decided an early night was a good idea ... only to find that my Kindle had totally died.

So, all in all a winning Monday!

I am still trying to get my ID badge sorted out, but at least I have a good news about my Kindle.  I managed to speak to a lady at Amazon, and amazingly it is a couple of weeks pre it's 1st birthday.  So, when I have finished this I am off to the Post Office to return it and they are going to replace it.  So great news, although a pain as all my fan-fics will need to be re-downloaded, but at least I don't have to pay out for a new item.

Work today was a really typical odd morning, although a couple of the patients were really nice, so all in all my week is beginning to look up.

So, as I said, I need to pack & post, but before I go -

11. What do you think are three things that are pretty great or interesting about you?
I would imagine most of you know these, but -

  • I am colourblind (unusual for a girl)

  • I only started horse-riding in my mid-late 30's ... but then ended up doing most things

  • I have always hated cycling ... even before I was almost killed in an accident. I even hate it when on a static bike in a gym

So, lets head out - see you on the flip side

That was certainly a weird clinic.  All 5 of the males were really nice people ... and 2 brought consultants with them!  (One as his father, as the patient was 12, and the other as his daughter as he was in his 90's).  We had one patient who didn't know he had requested private treatment (well that was his theory ... even though he had been happy to get an early appt!!), and one who had surgery yesterday and told us 3 different operations ... so all in all a weird selection!  Still, it made the morning go rapidly!

The sun is out and I have just had a 2 mile walk around the local park (you have seen photos in the past Fridays).  It was so lovely I even enjoyed listening to Ghost Story (my least favourite of the Dresden Files)

Now I am here, complete with a cuppa, so this afternoon is going well.  Although I do have some housework I want to do ... I have received a couple of Easter cards, so thought I would dust that cabinet before I put them up.  I have done the other one, so at least I will be balanced - well my lounge cabinets will, any way!

However, before I dig the duster out I want to make a couple of icons (I realised earlier I didn't have a "cake" one), but before I start that -

30. What was the last book you read?

That could be one of 3 answers!

  • This morning, as every morning I read The Bible (I am reading Genesis at present)

  • In an evening I am re-reading the second part of the I Would Still Have Loved You verse by [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly

  • Today, at work, in brief gaps I read a fourth part of a trilogy (yes, I know, that's weird!). Yesterday I read part #3, and then found that there was a part 4 ... Father's day ... the series has been about spies in the time of the Battle of Trafalgar

Well icons and dust are calling me!  Hope you are all having a good day x

When I first had a Kindle I asked for help then - and was given the answer of Calibre.  In other words I wanted a program that would transfer Word Documents onto my Kindle (without going onto the internet)

I have used that programme since.  Well, that is, until today when it wont open anything, or accept new "books".  I have un-installed, and re-installed, but still no good.

So wonder if there is another similar programme out there I could use ... or if anyone has any ideas.

Any help would be appreciated ... thanks

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] teragramm for your help - I now can upload other things, again

Day 05 → talk about books this year

As ever have continued to read more Spuffy fan-fic.  There seem to have been a few new writers recently that has really given some great new stories.

I have been reading quite a lot of regency-style romances (like the Georgette Heyer style).  When I packed up all Mum & Dad's books there were a lot  I wanted to read, so while in chaos have downloaded loads onto my Kindle.  Come Christmas (I hope) I shall be able to get back to some proper sets of books again, for example I am looking forward to re-reading the whole Anne of Green Gables series.

I am hoping that the next Dresden Files will be done soon, as that is a series I am enjoying, and re-read the last 3 books this Spring.

Still like to start my day with a Bible reading, at present I am in Leviticus.

Last week with the Black Friday thingy Amazon tried getting me to buy a new Kindle and will admit I was tempted, but no money.  So didn't.

And, guess what I have forgotten to back up!

Yes, you guessed....

My Kindle died last night!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just hunted my cloud, and found that I had my Kindle plugged in long enough that it has uploaded, so may have lost a bit, but not as much as I dreaded

...... I can't find what I'm looking for!

I was sure I had a freebie programme on my last pc that would convert .doc and .docx to RTF format for my Kindle.  The only one I can find is one that does to TXT (but I am often loosing all the paragraphs)

So, is there one, or did I trnsfer everything one doc at a time via "save as"

It must be Monday morning!
