Yes, she may have died almost 6 years ago, but the year before she had said that there was a reason that they had been put in the same uni house.

Yes, Andrew went to Southampton Uni back in 2014, and was put in a house with 9 other people, one of whom was also a committed Christian. So, Mum said that God realised they would suit!. Anyway they shared a house for 3 years, then she went to Spain to work for 2 years. When she came back she went to college in Bath, and gave Andrew a ring and said that it would be fun to catch up. Eventually they started dating, and yesterday Andrew & Jess became engaged. So both are now 25 and with that history I am really hopeful that they have a great chance to really survive.

Congratulations Andrew & Jess

I do love that top, or dress, she is wearing!

Well while passing on good news, I will also do the 2 days meme to be able to turn off the pc soon.

6. What do you think about hunting?
Sorry it's not PC, but for me I see the history of the English Countryside ... a lot of long term heritage.
In most hunts very few animals are actually caught, as they are mostly cleverer that humans, and can often out-smart us!

7. What places are you really grateful exist?
Museums

Well this evening I shall be watching Sound of Music ... I do love that film, and will honour Christopher Plummer ... may he R.I.P.

2 Have you ever seen the same movie more than twice at a theater?

Back when I was at college the film Gallipoli was released and I went with a few friends.

One of my friends, and myself were both interested in the history of WWI, and decided to go back the following week to see the film now we knew how it finished. Then one week later we went again!!

The film is brilliant (with a young Mel Gibson), but in a cinema the race against time is quite tense, which is why we ended up watching it 3 times.

Well the sun is out again, so that's good news. It was nice to get a day of rain though as, although I am not a keen gardener, I do have tubs of plants ... so nice to see some flowers, and healthy shoots.

I spoke to my doctor yesterday - and am still signed off work. The clinics I normally work in will soon be re-starting on a small number of patients, as cancer testing services are re-starting. However the manager is not happy about me being in the hospital as an asthmatic (although mine is very mild), but my GP has signed me off due to post-viral fatigue afetr the Christmas & January flu bugs. So at present am off work, and trying to build up my stamina levels.

On another note, I made 5 icons for [livejournal.com profile] moviefilmstills ... we had to pick out "comfort movie", and I know it is corny ... but it has to be "Sound of Music".  So thought you might like to see them -

Well, I got a bit distracted last month, so thought I would go back to the meme, and see if that keeps me focused ... so ...

May 1 Who made you feel good this week?
Jiffy - he is having a good day, and we had a good walk this morning.

ExpandThe rest of the month )

Well weekend is coming, if that makes a difference to many of us. But, enjoy

I am all behind with the meme, with reading your posts ... and life in general!

I ended up working a full week this week, and the last 3 days have been a struggle.  So much so, I pulled out of a music thingy, and am glad as I slept for 16 hours last night.  I do feel a bit better, but still very tired.  However this week I am back to my normal 3 1/2 days, and then am off work for a fortnight.  So, all in all I am positive about how I coped last week.  I will catch up, at some point, I hope!

However I did want to get these icons posted as they are for [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo round 25, and the theme is Flaming June.  I have decided to make the 10 from a favourite film of mine, The Longest Day, which seemed so appropriate being the 75th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, and my holiday there the previous month.

100 Meme - Film # 40

Thunderbirds ... The year is 2010. Teenager Alan Tracy, sent off to a distant boarding school, is the youngest of the sons of Jeff Tracy, a retired American astronaut. Jeff, a widower, has formed International Rescue, and raised his sons to act as a secret, volunteer organization which uses highly advanced technology to save lives worldwide. Jeff and his older sons John, Virgil, Scott, and Gordon, who like Alan were named after the Mercury Seven astronauts are joined in this effort by Lady Penelope and her butler/chauffeur Parker. Their futuristic hardware is largely developed by a genius scientist known as Brains, who lives at the International Rescue base on Tracy Island, somewhere in the Pacific.

Even better is that Jeff Tracey is played by Bill Paxton, who was Fred Haise in the epic Apollo 13 film.

And for those who don't know why I wanted to share this film ... This is the real reason, the original series that I loved, still love ... and gave me an abiding love for all things sci-fi!

Sorry for the delay in doing this meme, I will try to get back on track.

100 Meme - Film #19

The film I was watching last night is certainly an "old one" ... Lost Horizon was made in 1937 and is the story of a British Foreign Secretary (Ronald Colman) on his way back to England, who was diverted to Shangri La. It is about the concept of finding Paradise ... but of love, peace, and how most of the group want that.

The original film has been damaged over the years and now, on the DVD there are a few parts where the soundtrack is playing over publicity stills, to try to maintain the storyline as much as possible.

For my birthday last year, Nick bought me a set of 50 films on DVD, and I am slowly watching those I didn't know. The latest one Blood on the Sun is starring James Cagney, and although filmed in 1945 it is in B&W.

Nick Condon James Cagney) is a newspaper reporter working in Tokyo who refuses to toe the Japanese line on the expansionist policies of the anti-democratic Imperialist government. When it become clear to the authorities that Condon isn't going to cooperate and that he has some valuable information and contacts, they decide to get him in their clutches for some interrogations and then dispose of him.

According to IMDb ... "The DVD sleeve notes claim that this was one of the first American martial-arts movies. Though not a martial-arts movie by modern standards and definitions, judo is seen in the movie and with James Cagney performing it. Cagney insisted on doing his own stunts in the film."

This really brought back some great memories for me as I learnt Judo for 7 years ... so, yes, I know how to do these moves (even the strangle at the end!)

I said I was going to be obscure for the next 10 films ... so here goes with the first.

Yellow Canary is a war film starring Anna Neagle as a socialite who is sent to Canada as a Nazi sympathiser. On the boat over she meets an Englishman and a Polish Captain.

Once there she is slowly to find out the Polish family are more Nazis ... and, yes you guessed it, the English guy is an English special agent sent to help her uncover this major plot.

Photobucket

And, the final scene shows her coming back home, a hero - complete with husband ... and all the Nazis in prison!

No You Tube as too obscure!

One story has been placed on film at least 3 times and has had a TV series on it. I love all the film versions, starring Leslie Howard, Anthony Andrews and David Niven. However the one here, which is my favourite stars Leslie Howard as The Scarlet Pimpernal

A great story of a British nobleman going to France during the civil war to rescue aristocrats from the guillotene.

Here is the star quoting the poem of the same name, and showing why he wasn't suspected as the dare-devil who was doing the fighting.

The first book I ever read without stopping (well, only to go to scvhool) ..3 nights sleepless nights!

Gone With The Wind  was a book that was filmed and won 10 oscars in doing so.

Everyone has heard about it, full of big name stars, memorable music and a time in history that is no more. A story of adversity, war and love. A film that has a sad ending, yet I for one hope that they do get back together.

Having written this and watched the above trailer I must now dig the film out and watch it again (complete with tissues, of course.)

Enjoy!

Day 02 - Movie that you think more people should see

The film I have chosen doesn't have a You Tube link - so you just get a photograph of "the" star!  The film is Moonshot, and is about the landing on the moon of Apollo 11.

I chose it, not just because it's James, but it shows the sheer tenacity of human spirit ... Those men were brave, clever ... and mad!  Their wives had a tough life, as well.

When you see it, you are reminded that man got to the moon using their brains ... no major computers ... and no guarantee that they would return.  How's that for a positive show of the true meaning of human spirit.

I was old enough to remember the actual event ... and to literally hold my breath waiting for this re-entry!   Apollo 13 is a great film - but the final scene always both makes me cheer, and brings a lump to my throat.

The soundtrack is poor - couldn't find a better one ... but for those who don't know Jim Lovell was played by Tom Hanks ... and in this scene (at 3mins) that is the RL Jim Lovell greeting the actor Jim Lovell.
