As many of you know I remember the first landing on the moon (I was 8), so loved the film Moonshot (pointing to icon)

As I told you, I went to the Cathedral last Thursday - well they have an exhibition there this month, called Museum of the Moon. It was stunning, hard to capture it on camera, but I tried.

Only Me

I am going to try to do better, allthough as I have said that a few times, I really hope I will stick to it this time.

Last week I actually managed a week of mornings at work ... and(insert cheer here) I managed to not sleep any afternoon.  That is the first time that I have managed that since mid December ... that has been a long time coming, and I am trying to not push thingsas I don't want to fall back again.

Anyway, while I was cooking Sunday lunch, Jiffy asked to sit on his/mum's seat.  Back where it used to be he & mum used to sit in it ... first come, first served!!!!  You can probably see that he has lost weight - yes, he is eating, but sadly still not putting the weight back on.  However he still loves a short potter around, and enjoys dinner!

Well I thought that maybe if I copied out the meme this month I might make it back to LJ more often ... well, let's hope!  So, I have some catching up to do -

1. What Hogwarts house would you be sorted into?
Sorry, but although I have seen the first 3 films, that's as far as my Hogwarts knowledge goes!!

2. What is the first historical event you clearly remember?
I was taken to see the first regular hovercraft crossing from North Wales to Liverpool (we lived locally).  I was 2 ... and yes, I remember watching this building (the hovercraft) suddenly lift up, and we got sprayed with flying sand!!  I remember the basics of the Aberfan disaster as I was 5 and in a Welsh village school ... but I suppose the one I can really remember best was the Apollo 11 moon landings, which has given me a love of all thing space travel.

3 What part of elementary/primary school would you like to incorporate into your adult life?
Regular history lessons ... I love visiting and travel, but would love to be updated as to the history

4 If you could eliminate one thing that you did every day, what would it be?
Housework

5 Your rescue team in the coming zombie apocalypse is the cast of the last tv show you watched. How screwed are you?
I watched part of "Songs of Prasie" as I was getting Jiffy organised for his stroll.  So, not good, although with my singing, maybe I could just scare away the baddies!!

6 What is something you do to indulge yourself?
Reading in bed in a morning when I don't have to get up at a specific time.

And the rest )

So if I don't post this now another day will have gone by.  I don't really "do" anything on a Sunday so won't be catching up with you all, but hope to tomorrow (fingers crossed)

When you are old enough to remember a historical event, that was then turned into a great film, there is a double reason for watching.

I have already listed Moonshot as my #1 film ... another memorable historical event about Apollo 11 and the first moon landing. But this is two Apollo flights later - Apollo 13 ... and as you can see it was endorsed by the man himself -

Jim Lovell is also on the end of the film with a camio role.

I love the film, an amazing true story ... and it still gives me goosebumps when I watch it. (For any of you who don't know what I am talking about, Tom Hanks plays Jim Lovell on the true story of the ill-fated 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon. Astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert were scheduled to fly Apollo 14, but are moved up to 13. It's 1970, and America have already achieved their lunar landing goal, so there's little interest in this "routine" flight.. until that is, things go very wrong, and prospects of a safe return fade.)

I was old enough to remember the actual event ... and to literally hold my breath waiting for this re-entry!   Apollo 13 is a great film - but the final scene always both makes me cheer, and brings a lump to my throat.

The soundtrack is poor - couldn't find a better one ... but for those who don't know Jim Lovell was played by Tom Hanks ... and in this scene (at 3mins) that is the RL Jim Lovell greeting the actor Jim Lovell.

debris4spike: (Umm ...)

I have just had a patient not turn up, then have a gap, and as my 2 fics I am working on are on my Bude pc and I am in Plympton, [livejournal.com profile] mabel_marsters  gets a gap before she has some more work to do, and I get to meme!

BTW - I have just confirmed with Mike that next Friday will be my last Friday in Plympton - another step on my ladder of change!

Anyway - so to the meme -

Comment to this entry and I'll give you a letter. List ten things that you love that begin with that letter and then post that list on your journal.

Hope He Gets A Holiday

debris4spike: (Do Not Disturb - James)
Just seen the note that James is back in America ... I just hope that means he gets to spend some quality time over the ummer with his kids, both resting and re-charging the batteries.

Glad to hear the filming went well - I rmemeber going into my back garden and looking up at the moon to try to see Buzz Aldrin (and Neil Armstrong) on the evening that it happened - so it will be great to see James re-enact a part of my childhood.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

For those who may not know the news is now confirmed - From www.jamesmarsters.com

MESSAGE FROM JAMES

James is happy to announce that he will be starring in the forthcoming ITV/History Channel/ProSieben movie “Moonshot.”

Moonshot” is a dramatization of the days leading up to the Apollo 11 launch to the moon.  James will portray American astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

"Moonshot" is expected to air in 2009 but no specific date is yet scheduled.

That is great - I remember the moon landings ... I remember standing in our garden and looking up at the moon that evening and bing really sad that I couldn't see the space-craft.  As I was, at that time 8, it means James was 7 ... so wonder what his memories are.

The story of the Moon has, from that day always fascinated me - so I am really looking forward to this

CONGRATULATIONS JAMES
