For those who were expecting a large building - yes, this is truly the entrance to Stratton (Cottage) Hospital ... where I wasted 10 minutes today!

Today, rather than go on the normal road round the outskirts of Stratton, I came down the old road, through the village, and stopped to take a photo for you.

Stratton is the old half of Bude, although Bude is now the town, while Stratton is now a village!

The actual date of the battle was 15th May 1643, and is one of the battles that took place during The English Civil War. For a few more details, Look Here !!

I am not in Bude tomorrow, so took this photogarph today of the War Memorial, which is located on the top of the hill where the battle actually took place.

(The memorial was made when part of Poughill Church Tower fell off - Eighteenth Century re-cycling!)

There is, as ever, going to be a re-enactment over the weekend by the Sealed Knot

When I posted the pictures yesterday I said that I said that I also had some individual gravestones to post - Well I have divided them into two.

This first post are of some local graves, showing some of the many stones and memorials there are to see.

May they Rest In Peace, as we take a second to remember them.

Some weeks ago, when I asked for ideas of what to take photos of, [livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpackand [livejournal.com profile] dragonflylady77both suggested that I take photos of graves. At long last I get round to posting them!

It ha ended up as a 2 part post - this one is of general views of Churchyards - we have 3 Parish Churches in Bude, and so there are a couple of pictures from each

debris4spike: (Call me!)
Hoping that you can all help me ... one or two of my friends in particular.

As you probably now know I have a new camera, and want to get back into "proper" photography.  Now I have part of my problem ... can't think of anything to photograph ... I know that is silly, but when I did my course a few years ago, we were given tasks to do ... Fo me, that makes life so much easier.

So, PLEASE, could you challenge me ... What shall I take pictures of.

It can be a one-off picture, or a set ... small or large, I will give it a go.

However I must remind people there may be a time delay, due to weather at present!

Anyway, under the cut are a few pictures I took today of Stratton ... it was the original town, before Bude was developed in the 19th century.
