It ha ended up as a 2 part post - this one is of general views of Churchyards - we have 3 Parish Churches in Bude, and so there are a couple of pictures from each

Date: 2008-10-29 04:49 pm (UTC)When I was a kid I used to take my Grandparents to see the "pretty pebbles" whenever I could (the chippings on some of the plots!)

Date: 2008-10-29 04:16 pm (UTC)I used to live in Cornwall, in Penzance, right next to a churchyard full of graves. Every morning I would look out the kitchen window and see something new with each headstone. I wanted to do some rubbings, but time wouldn't allow such a thing. I really love the angel from Bude!
I miss England. *sniffle pouts*
Wonderful, post more!

Date: 2008-10-29 08:09 pm (UTC)A few years ago I went 75 miles out of my way in Lincolnshire to see a lot of family stones (having a really unususal surname, I wanted to see them) - only to find that they had removed the stones to make it easier to mow! That was annoying!

Date: 2008-10-30 07:59 am (UTC)Sometimes you can find that the local family history society in that area do memorial transcriptions and either put them on a CD or you can email them for them to do a lookup for details - might be worth checking if your still interested in doing that.
I did a lot of transcribing in the town cemetery for our local society a few years back.
