Some weeks ago, when I asked for ideas of what to take photos of, [livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpackand [livejournal.com profile] dragonflylady77both suggested that I take photos of graves. At long last I get round to posting them!

It ha ended up as a 2 part post - this one is of general views of Churchyards - we have 3 Parish Churches in Bude, and so there are a couple of pictures from each

I love the old headstones. We have some graveyards like that here, but so many new graveyards don't have that type of stone anymore. They have small flat stones with just grass. It's so the caretakers can mow the grass easier. My parents are buried in a graveyard like that.

Ick, I had to move house once because I didn't realise how much I *don't like* graveyards.

They're pretty, but ick.

God, these are beautiful... *sighs heavily*

I used to live in Cornwall, in Penzance, right next to a churchyard full of graves. Every morning I would look out the kitchen window and see something new with each headstone. I wanted to do some rubbings, but time wouldn't allow such a thing. I really love the angel from Bude!

I miss England. *sniffle pouts*

Wonderful, post more!

These are so pretty! I love being in cemetaries during the day, they are so peaceful and pretty...

Though at night they get a little creepy, though there is always the chance that Spike could show up! xD

Oh they're lovely, especially the old stones in the one at Poughill,I've spent a lot of time trawling around churchyard looking for my ancestors, unfortunately a lot of my ancestors don't have any headstones but it's interesting to look around them anyway.

Oh that was a shame - we have a lot here in the town cemetery that are being laid flat, it wouldn't be so bad if they laid them so that you could still read the inscriptions but they lay them face down - no good for historians of genealogists.
Sometimes you can find that the local family history society in that area do memorial transcriptions and either put them on a CD or you can email them for them to do a lookup for details - might be worth checking if your still interested in doing that.
I did a lot of transcribing in the town cemetery for our local society a few years back.
