Photos ...And A Photo Challenge.
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 05:31 pm Hoping that you can all help me ... one or two of my friends in particular.
As you probably now know I have a new camera, and want to get back into "proper" photography. Now I have part of my problem ... can't think of anything to photograph ... I know that is silly, but when I did my course a few years ago, we were given tasks to do ... Fo me, that makes life so much easier.
So, PLEASE, could you challenge me ... What shall I take pictures of.
It can be a one-off picture, or a set ... small or large, I will give it a go.
However I must remind people there may be a time delay, due to weather at present!
Anyway, under the cut are a few pictures I took today of Stratton ... it was the original town, before Bude was developed in the 19th century.

Stratton Court House ... now a private dwelling.

The house in the middle is clearly dated 1511. These houses are opposite the Church and during the civil war had Royalist leaders staying here prior to the Battle of Stamford Hill (Stratton) in May 1643.

Stratton Church.

The Churchyard is very typical - except for theis stone, which was erected in 1910 to a local resident.

The Church Tower is 15th century.

The masonary of the Church varies from 13th to 15th Centuries. Sorry the pics are a bit dark - it was raining out (and I had forgotten my tripod)

The font is 13th Century.

The Rood Screen was built in 1907 to replace the stone one, that had been added to replace the original wooden on, that was removed during the reign of Henvy VIII.

Date: 2008-08-13 06:19 pm (UTC)I love the carving on the rood screen.
How about some really close up shots e.g. close up of the stamens of a flower etc. You can use the very close up macro setting?

Date: 2008-08-14 08:02 pm (UTC)Yes, it is amazing carving.
Thanks for the idea - I don't have a macro setting, but will think about how I can take close ups without editing on my pc!! I took some earlier ... so will let you know when I get some decent stuff to show.

Date: 2008-08-13 06:35 pm (UTC)For the challenge...hum...you do fabulous work with landscapes and animals so how about some still life type of subjects? Some "arty" type of pieces might be a challenge..you know, close ups of parts of things done in sepia or B&W that one always finds in galleries. If the camera is regular not digital some time exposures are always interesting.
For my personal "kink" I love the old cemeteries if you do the landscape route. The ones in this post are marvelous!

Date: 2008-08-13 10:56 pm (UTC)Ahh what to photograph ? - how about textures ? they can be colour or B&W, and can be of anything you like, indoors or outdoors, others have suggested flowers so how about birds.

Date: 2008-08-13 11:36 pm (UTC)Re ideas.. well, one day, my mum and I took our cameras and walked around the old part of our town taking pics of random but interesting or quirky things we saw. Things that don't instantly identify the place you're in or that you'd never seen before. We found a lamp post with a cone on it, some strange stone engravings and I remember lying on the road to take some pics.. We did that in another town too. So there's that.
Or churches, or interesting tombstones (I love cemetaries, particularly Old Jesmond Cemetary in Newcastle Upon Tyne). Hmm.. Close up of flowers? The same corner of street at the same time every day (like in the movie Smoke with Harvey Keitel)?

Date: 2008-08-14 08:15 pm (UTC)I too love cemetaries, so that won't be a hardship - the unusual in the town will be a challenge.
Will let you know when they are up, Thanks.
