Happy Anniversary, Mum & Dad
Monday, March 26th, 2012 10:59 amWe had a wonderful day on Saturday ... the food went well, everyone made the effort to spend time with M&D (including the younger boys) ... and even the weather behave do we could get some pictures outside.
All in all Mum & Dad felt that it was lovely, so that was the main thing.
Nick got the 4 boys to read out some facts about 1952 and 2012, and Andrew said a prayer of dedication, as well as the 4 of them singing a hymn -
Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided,
urged and inspired us, cheered us on our way,
sought us and saved us, pardoned and provided:
Lord for the years, we bring our thanks today.
That truly made M&D's day.
Tim read an inspirational story about faith, and both Mum and Dad talked about some of the "weird" family history.
They loved the vase, and later admitted they were glad we had done it. We had all bought plants for the garden as extra gifts, and I had also had a tree planted in Northamptonshire (the county they married in), as there are some re-planting programmes going on at present. It is a field maple, which is a native to England, but has a family link as Mum's Mum was actually born in Canada.
Anyway, words can't really sum up the day - just to say it went really well - and here are a few of the family pictures from the day -

Date: 2012-03-26 08:02 pm (UTC)It actually made Mum cry when the boys were doing their bit (and she's not a great person to show emotions!)
I must do a weird post at some point, then! (and link you, in case you miss it!)

Date: 2012-03-26 12:34 pm (UTC)I didn't know your grandmother was born in Canada. Have your visited her homeland? My father's mother was German and once I lived there I could see so much of how she was who she was.
Was the cake a heart shape? I love the photo of them sitting in their chairs. It's just a vision of them being a couple. You have a lovely family.

Date: 2012-03-26 08:07 pm (UTC)Grandma was born in Toronto and came to England when she was 10 ... but her parents were actually English. Her main memory of the journey home was the 2nd boat sinking after being hit by an iceburg! And the sound of Niagra, as they sailed from New York.
Yes, a heart-shaped cake. That is "their" chaires .... so as well as the pic of them opening the pressie, it is very "them"!! You are right.
Yes, the family is great - and basically we all get on incredibly well. Claire, Brenda and I did tea and just worked together and round each other - very special. I am glad I know how lucky I am.

Date: 2012-03-26 06:04 pm (UTC)'Weird' family history has always been interesting for me to hear - my relatives have quite the stories...
The tree was such a lovely and unique idea.
Moreover, the heart-shaped cake was such a nice touch and very personal, since it was made by your mother. (it looks great and very delicious.)

Mum was a bit sad that the icing on the cake wasn't great as her eye-sight is not great. But for those who had a piece it was announced as delicious (I don't like English Wedding Cakes!)

Date: 2012-03-26 08:11 pm (UTC)Thank you - you are the only one who commented on that. I love it, yes it was new. My panic was I bought it a few weeks ago and it was fitted, so I was worried I wouldn't get the zip up! (Or I would bulge!)

Date: 2012-03-27 08:42 am (UTC)I shall have to get you to tie a yellow ribbon on the tree for me, won't I? It is nice to have it where it all began 60 years ago.
It was a great day - and lovely to get the photos of us all.
