Eternal Refuge

I am normally a real tradtionalist - Hate modern hymns, don't like films re-made etc.

This morning, as I was very late in last night, Dad wasn't up to getting to Church (and anyway with his arm in a sling he couldn't have played the piano) and our organist was unwell. So, for our second service I played the hymns on my clarinet.

The first one we had was a new version of The Lord's My Shepherd ... a favourite Psalm and hymn of mine, yet I also like this new version .... wondered how many of you had heard it?

I'm thinking that this question is not "what are you scared of?"  So I don't need to list the things that make me panic ... good, that would be a very long answer!

I suppose my main fear is that of letting people down ... especially my friends and family; although primarily I'm worried that I let God down in some way.

The things that I miss in my life, I worry that I have walked past an oppertunity that I was given, that I missed something God was telling me.

No, I don't think it means that God will strike me down, just I fear that I am missing out on something special, that I could have had, and somehow missed.

My faith is the vital thing in my life, and I don't want God to be upset with how I live that life.

Although I am not a member of the Anglican (Church of England), I have been to many services and one thing that is recited at Morning Prayer is, for me, a basic truth -

The Apostles' Creed - From the 1662 Book of Common Prayer

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen


Now, below the cut, I shall ramble a bit more. I'm quite happy for people to ask me why, but I hope that you, in turn, accept that these are my beliefs .... my life.

Five good things that happened to me today:

1.  God loves me.

2.  I have a roof over my head, and food on the table.

3.  I have great friends ... who love and support me however mad they think I am.

4.  I have a lovely family ... Mum & Dad, Tim & Claire, Nick & Brenda & boys ... and Jiffy.  And ... I shall end up seeing them all this weekend.

5.  It's James birthday ... and I can be thankful that being a fan has brought me so much ... friends, I've dared to wriet ... and now learning graphics.  Thank you James - Have a great day.

Just wanted to share something I was listening to at Church yesterday.

We have been having a series of DVDs by Wayne Grudem (of Chicago) and yesterday he was talking about Creation.  He pointed out one or two things we may have forgotten.

Thank God for  creating colour.

We could live in a B&W world ... some of the shades and tints have no purpose other than to give us somethig to look at.

Thank God for creating music

In a similar fashion - everything could be a basic mono-tone.

Thank God for creating computers.

Yes, without God's creation of sand, we wouldn't have silicon ... and without that we wouldn't have computer chips.

He then went on to wonder what else is out there, yet to be dscovered.

I don't honestly think that there is anyone who needs to forgive me anything (I hope I'm right as I type that) ... However God I do know, has forgiven me everything.  That is the most amazing thing that I can know.

However in the 10 Commandments we are told not to make a likeness of God, or Jesus ... so no picture for the reply, just the words.

Day 14 — Someone you’ve drifted away from

Hallowean 2002 - Chris, Me, Sylv (the bride) and Sharon



That was taken immediately after the vows were taken ... Sylv and Mike only had 20 guests, and it was a brilliant wedding.  Up till then the 4 of us fenced together and so used to have "our" night on a Thursady ... Fencing, then back to Sharon's for a DVD/Video.

Sadly, although we are still all in touch and are still friends, RL gets in the way.  The 3 of them were at school together,a nd although I am 9 years older, the friendship is good - just wish we met more often.

The Bride now lives 50 miles away (she is the one with the daughter with heart problems, I mentioned last year)
Chris works for "the place that doesn't exist" ... you know the one that has a mixture of people from England and that "island" 3,000 miles west of us ... so she does weird hours.
Sharon and her partner both work weird hours - and he has had mental health problems.

So - RL is a pain - I am just as bad though at just picking up the phone and saying Hi.

I have just been reminded in an e-mail from a special friend that -

That the Lord didn't do it all in one day -  What makes me think I can? "

I must remember this -
