A Spring Day Out
Monday, March 2nd, 2026 10:17 amAs I said, last Thursday Christine and I went to Killerton and it was lovely to see all the daffodils. I think we picked just the right day - after some warmer, brighter days, and before the rain returned.
We have both been nmerous times, but while I can't drive it's the place I can get to with buses, and a reasonable walk.

A sea of cyclamen

As the house was pretty empty, the room guides were quite chatty ... and explained this painting. This is the family who did a lot of the building work, a love match, although also money-match, as she came from a rich family. (The cross in the garden was built to remember him) They took their faith seriously and on Wednesdays they used to have the vicar come over for a Bible reading time ... and this is the picture. However, what was also pointed out was the "ghost" ... it is a self-portrait of the artist (who didn't actually sign the painting because of this!) ... he is between the lady of the house, and the vicar.
Killerton has one of the largest costume collections in The National Trust and every year they switch over the display. This year is not one of my favourite ranges ... but still some lovely items to see.
