Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat  and [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly,

I am not a great cook, as there is only "me" I can't always be bothered - but I do love it when I do it. I try to cook a cake or biscuits at least once a week ... but don't ask me what I made this week, as there was nothing ..... oooooops! As I deleted some of s[livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftlys comments I realise that (at long last) we have a meme with English, rather than American phrases on!

Bold the ones you have and use at least once a year, italicize the ones you have and don't use, strike through the ones you have had but got rid of.

spaetzle makers - Spaetzle is a type of noodle. You can make them by hand, but some use a tool that you push the dough through to drop into boiling water. I ate Spaetzle in Germany.

I have an electric kettle for cocoa and tea. Works pretty well.

I added a few things when I did the meme.

I can't imagine anyone not having an electric kettle - I don't even know anyone who would put 'electric' in front of 'kettle' - no-one in Britain would ever think of a kettle being anything else - nor not have one!

Here in the States, we have kettles that go on the stove. When the water reaches the boiling stage, the kettle whistles.

It's more unusual to have an electric kettle where I live. We drink more ice tea here than tea like you enjoy. Heating water on the stove is more common. Different strokes for different folks.

We had those when I was a small child in the late 50s or early 60s, but I haven't seen one in use anywhere this century.

I hardly ever drink tea - but I use the kettle all the time! For example - I have just been cooking pasta - I boil the water in the kettle before putting it in the pan (1litre from cold to boiling takes about 2 minutes, 3 at most) as it is much faster than starting from scratch on the stove. Obviously I do the same when I cook vegetables, or rice, and to rinse the rice.

And, of course, we have a kettle in our office at work to make tea or coffee as we work, or for cuppasoups or pot-noodles if we are desperate as lunch times.

It amazes me that Americans regard electric kettles as gadgets!
