It's Saturday and I am meant to be gardening, but it is raining off and on so am trying to catch up with LJ and even popped onto FB ... this before lunch in the hope it clears after lunch.

So, how are you all?  Having a fun weekend - I do hope so.

I said I popped over onto facebook - well I snagged this from o[livejournal.com profile] oldgreymare.. even if you have never owned a horse, think of your 4 legged friends ... And for those who are pet-free, spend a moment to think of my Jaykub.  Sadly I wasn't with him when he died, although that does mean my memories of him are all happy ones.  My best friend and her daughter were with him (as well as his 2 best pny friends) ... I still miss him, 9 years on.

RIP Jaykub

Those commandments could be used for a lot of pets. Very beautiful, true and kind of sad. Definitely something people should think about.

I think anyone who might be thinking of getting a pet large or small needs to read these. An animal isn't a toy you can put aside when you tire of them. It a life long decision to bring a pet into your life. If you do bring an animal into your life, they give far more than they receive from you.

Excellent rules. I adore horses but have never had the means to have one. I hope I'd live up to these reasonable commands (many apply to any animal taken into a human's care).

Here in NM we are having an EPIDEMIC of abandoned horses due to the economy. half and near starved horses are being just turned loose and rescue facilities are at double capacity and having to turn them away. Meanwhile there are arguments for permission for a horse slaughterhouse to be built in southern NM adding to the debates. I am just so heartbroken reading and seeing on the local news as story after story is covered. These noble animals have a special bond with humans (like dogs and cats) and need to be treated well. Like dogs and cats there are emotional concerns as well as physical. It is just tragic!

*hugs*
