I have just come in from a great day out in Plymouth with my friend Christine. We were very lucky with the weather ... and eventually a pic scam will arrive.

However, until then, here is a picture especially for the Americans ... I am standing on Mayflower Steps.

No. :-( Unfortunately, I haven't been to the UK- yet. We were planning to go next year, but with the Olympics and my relatives actually coming to the States, it seems we will have to wait til 2013.

OoOoOo What a lovely place.

Just think, if that place didn't exist, George Bush would never have had any power in this world... ;)

It's a lovely photo chuck :)

Some of us liked him. Just sayin'. I didn't agree with everything he did, but I thought he was pretty darn good with what he had to deal with in office. One thing's for sure, I don't wish that job on anyone and I would certainly never run for president.

As for the current state of politics, I have never really trusted anything that politicians say and they have only gotten worse over the years. The whole system makes me sick.

Yeah, I know some of you guys liked him, you voted him in twice and two years into Obama's Presidency, you voted any power he had away from him. So I do get that a lot of Americans liked him/the Republican party.

Trying my best to look at it from a non critical POV here... Okay... As a non American, I can only say that he gave the rest of the world loads of laughs over the years and represented the global American stereotype very well. He took excellent care of big business as well. Yep, he was a truly iconic and unforgettable world leader.

I know not alot of people outside of the U.S. liked him. From my POV, he wasn't liked b/c he refused to cow tow to world opinion. He wanted to put America's interests first and others didn't like it. I get it. We don't like a lot of other countries' leaders either, but as far as I am concerned, what another country thinks is best for them is their business.

As for "big business", I am far from being any kind of socialist and capitalism is far from being fair or equal, but it is the system we chose to have in America and we must deal with the consequences. I am also a firm believer that if a business is corrupt, which many large corporations are to some extent, then they should face some form of punishment b/c they are breaking the laws. Capitalism only works well if everyone follows the rules. I also find it quite logical that if a business starts to fail, then we should let it fail. I hated the bailout Pres. Bush did and the subsequent "stimulus" that Pres. Obama followed with.

Anyway, I feel bad for taking up comment space on our friend's blog, so I'll sign off now. Thanks for the discussion, though! Have a wonderful weekend!

Every President of America puts American interests first LOL That's just a fact and ever since you guys rose to the top position of the world.

But hey, I get it, I really do, when Britain was an Empire and we were the top of the heap, we executed people, we took care only of the Empire's interests, we didn't care what anyone else thought, we didn't take care of our poor or needy, we elevated the rich beyond measure and we got very warmoungery with anyone who *dared* to do what we considered a slight against us.

In fact it is what the Empires or most powerful nations have always, always done.

We had a September 11th every night during The Blitz of WW2, and from that we rose to create the NHS, the social welfare system, a multicultural nation with socialist and capitalist ideals in balance. But we were at the end of our Empire days by then, so I guess one has to crash before a nation looks inwards and decides to take care of its people.

Bush did a lot of damage to the world with his policies, now I can not talk about how he ran your nation, cos I am not of that nation, but I will say that his policies were damaging to the climate and world and he started illegal wars and disrespected other world leaders constantly. The world, a lot of us during his reign, just saw the America system as playground bullies who demanded their own way and if they didn't get it, dropped bombs, with this guy in charge who couldn't say words in the right context, or even say some of them properly at all.

I know you think it is sour grapes, cos America is the most powerful nation in the world, but it really is not, this is a *world* and not "America and the rubble you know" Selfish attitudes like this affect all us as well, not just you guys you know. That's why we are irked, cos that administration didn't give a hoot how it affected the rest of the world, which is frankly, disgusting.

The man was a true Republican and I am very sorry to have to say it, but I have yet to see an American Republican, male or female, on TV that didn't come off as a fundamentalist Christian, angry, poor despising, obsessed with making the rich even richer and cutting more and more help from anyone not lucky enough to be born with a family fortune behind them.

But I am glad you liked him and he worked for you, like I said, a lot of you must, he got in twice and I am sure the next Republican President will be just as great, let's hope it's a tea party candidate and perhaps that whole Biblical apocalypse of fire and brimstone can be fully realised?

I got your message on my journal, thanks for that, I am really busy but I will do that tomorrow.

Oh no! I don't think it's sour grapes at all! I think many (maybe all?) world leaders do not look far enough into the future to evaulate the consequences of their actions. Of course, it is also impossible to see the future. It is also difficult, especially when one is attacked, to truly have the time we would all want and enough knowledge to make a proper decision on certain situations. I never said Bush, or any other president for that matter, was perfect, but I do believe he did the best he could with what he had. We also must remember that Congress needs to be held responsible, too. Unfortunately, many people forget they hold the true political power in this country.

I do agree that the Republican Party in general comes across as to "high and mighty" in a religious sense for their own good. The Democrats, on the other hand, think they are so unbiased, that if you disagree with anything they say, they shut their ears and yell things like "Nazi" and "Racist" without even trying to listen to the conversation. Politics in this country have gone to Hell in a handbasket!

I try very hard to be an independent. I hope that one day soon, we will be rid of this two party system b/c I didn't like any of the candidates last time and, frankly, have no intention of even voting in this next election.

Maybe we need an apocalypse in this country and that's just sad.

Hey, we go to Plymouth fairly often! Plymouth, Indiana, that is. It's a little farm town - bigger than the one I live in, though, and our county seat. Not nearly as historically important as your Plymouth. (Or as old - it has the oldest cemetery in the county - founded in 1838.)
