As the town faces the south ... and Torbay is an area that is safe for shipping, there were large gun emplacements added.

The harbour was also one of the area used for loading men onto the landing crafts, before taking them to the boats and thus to Normandy in 1944.

My Tiad might never have been much of a man, but he was brave and he offered his life up for these nations of Great Britain and for that alone, he will always have my admiration.
