Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

One show I love that you could say I watch to gain insight into the history of North America ... or the history of medicine ... but probably have to admit that it is the male star that is my "guilty pleasure" ... is Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman

And, for those who dont know the overall plot:-

The series begins in the year 1867 and centers on a proper and wealthy female physician from Boston, Massachusetts: Michaela Quinn, also called Dr. Mike (played by British actress Jane Seymour). After the death of her father Josef Quinn, Dr. Mike sets out west to the small wild west town of Colorado Springs, to set up her own practice. She makes the difficult adjustment to life in Colorado with the aid of rugged outdoorsman and friend to the Cheyenne, Byron Sully (American actor Joe Lando) and a midwife named Charlotte Cooper (played by Diane Ladd). After Charlotte is bitten by a rattlesnake, she asks Michaela on her deathbed to look after her three children, Matthew (played by former child star Chad Allen), Colleen (played by Erika Flores and later Jessica Bowman) and Brian (played by Shawn Toovey). Dr. Mike settles in Colorado Springs and adapts to her new life as a mother with the children while finding love with Sully. Furthermore, she acts as a one-woman mission to convince the townspeople that a female doctor can successfully practice medicine.

Sadly that episode doesn't show Sully - but here is a picture ... just for your viewing pleasure, and for no other reason at all!!



Brilliant show - that even has it's own Web Site   It is great to see a reminder of the way life was lived in that time - things that we all take for granted were not even talked about.

Ha, I just realized that I never knew Sully's first name. I only watched that show occassionally (thus never seeing these two hook up *shock*) and it never even occured to me that it might have another name as well...

I think you only hear his first name a couple of times ... so not suprised you hadn't heard it.

They stopped showing it here before the wedding ... but you can see by the links they end up with a baby girl!

I'm usually not into long haired men but like you said, there is something about him. :P

I think we had the entire show over here but it was on during the afternoon so I missed most of it. Whenever I got to watch it, they were either not yet together or they already had the baby.

Well it was one of those shows you could skip around as most of the episodes were stand alone ... and there was only their relationship that moved it's direction from time to time.

Never really watched it but I've seen some bits of episodes.

It was a show you could see bits of, as the overall costumes etc were well done.

But .... there is something about Joe Lando ... I thinks it's the blue eyes and the smile ... ring any other bells?

AH man I loved Dr. Quinn too, and miss it. Those were the good ol' days of tv shows (for me anyway, I am still pretty young). Thanks for the youtube link and show reminders. :)

It was a great story of women in medicine ... and the developemnet of so much like medicine, territory & states, the Indians, coloureds etc ... and Joe Lando!

This is a show that still has the occasional rerun here. Usually in the afternoon so I'm still at work then but it's something that I did watch sometimes. Sully being the main attraction as well as the costumes.

It has some great stories - the overall ideal of medicine in those days is amazing ... and then there's Joe Lando ... must be the blue eyes and the smile!!

I watched the show. My daughter was young at the time and it was a show that we could all watch together. Besides Joe Lando is easy on the eyes.

Yes, it was certainly one of those shows for all ages and all types of people ... even if I did watch it to maybe focus on one of the characters!!
