The Old Chapel, Upminster
Monday, December 28th, 2009 08:00 pmHaving just typed about my baptism I decided to Google - and thought I would share these very sad photos.
They have brought back the memories - but are sad to see that the money has never been raised. The trouble is that there is a natural spring under the building, so repair is evry expensive. It was originally built in 1800, with a new front being added in 1847
Anyway - here are the remains -
The baptistry is in the floor in front of the pulpit -
The upper gallery was already closed as dangerous when we were members there -

Date: 2009-12-29 02:52 pm (UTC)When we left the area in 1986 there were already problems and the congrgation were looking for funding - which was proving impossible. Most of the then members went to the local Baptist Church (just round the corner!)
However it was still good to see the building and remember the years we went to Church there - and especially my Baptism back in 75.
