These pictures are really for anyone who had a father/uncle (etc) in the 4th Infantry Division of WWII - who left England for Utah Beach, in June 1944 - Below the cut are the actual ramps that were built in Torquay Harbour, and have now been preserved.
We have a close relation who was in the 1st Infantry Division [Big Red One] and he left for Omaha Beach from West Bay and Weymouth. He re-visited both there and France 50 years later. It must have looked very similar.
