You may have already heard this - but I only saw it this evening.

Dr Who is apparently taking a year off - so no Dr. Who in 2009.  The reason is that David Tennant wants to do a play.  However the BBC won't confirm that he is to be the Doctor in that series.

It sounds to me as if he will be - hence the year out.  I hope so as I think David is a great Dr. Who.

According to this BBC Press Release, DT is doing three specials in 2009 but they haven't confirmed that he will be the Doctor in 2010. So Christmas special 2007, new series 2008, Shakespeare 2008 and filming specials to be shown 2009, then ??? New Doctor or DT - who knows.

Still after reading Jamses comments from Dragoncon about Torchwood I'm just focussing on that at the moment. *g*

What???!!! Had to double check my calendar to make sure it's not April Fool's Day.

Took a look at the official DW site. It seems they are planning 3 specials starring DT and with the head writer Russel T. Davis during 2009 and will return to a full season in 2010.

I had never seen the current "Dr. Who" series until just yesterday. The BBC had shown a "Dr. Who" marathon, and I was able to catch a bit of it. I could very well get caught up in this series. I may find myself renting it very soon, in order to catch all of the eps :)

I am getting the show so late (via my local PBS station) so we're just finishing up Series 1 with Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor.
I love it though. My son and I watch every week and we're hooked. I know, I know... you can find all the epi's on-line and such, but it's fun to watch it in the traditional way and look forward to it week to week.
I mean seriously though, after last weeks ep (the second to last of Series 1) it's taking all my willpower NOT to download the final ep.
:-)

Thanks for the info though... maybe it'll give me time to catch up :-)

You know... everyone keeps saying they like DT better. I dunno though... I agree, CE was kinda overdoing it for a little bit there but the last couple of episodes (after Cap'n Jack showed up) I've really grown to love the big lug :-)
Especially after his "I'm going to rescue Rose Tyler" speech in the last ep that I watched :-) ::swoon::

I have yet to see Torchwood but I've been hearing all kinds of good things about it even before I heard about James' guest role.

I don't know if they'll air it over here... I'll have to look around for ep's to download I think.

I just read over the comments so I know now, that you know of the specials, I wanted to tell you about lol I'm looking forward to new DW stuff and I can't wait till I can download the xmas eppy. I know that a network in Germany bought the rights 2 years ago, but they haven't shown it. I'm curious to see it in german and how they mess up the dubbing. ;)

I remember that they really butchered the joss whedon stuff (Buffy, Angel, Firefly), because the humor is just not easly "translated" to German, which is the biggest problem. Of course the lovely accents all go bye-bye when replaced with the german, but most of the time it's just the problem of translation. When I think about it, I actually stopped watching the shows and movies in german when i get DVDs lol. And believe me, I watched season two of House MD in english over the weekend and that was complicated, but for once i used the german instead of the engl. subtitles because of all that science babbling ;) Just like with star trek you don't need to understand why the warp core is overloading just that it is :D Ups, and now I'm rambling *blush*
