Happy Easter

This is just a short note to wish all my friends a VERY HAPPY EASTER.

Hope that you all have a great time over the holidays - but do spare a few minutes in that time to remember the reason we are stuffing ourselves with Hot Cross Buns and Chocolates!

I am off in a few minutes to meet my parents and then tomorrow driving with them to the village that my Mum grew up in - where we shall be meeting my youngest brother and his wife.  It is (hopefully) going to be a great 4 days - a bit of walking, a bit of visiting - and a lot of memories - both old and new!

Hope that you all manage to spend time away from "the normal" - and then we can really start looking towards Spring Fever (for those in the UK) ... even if we aren't going to all (or any) of the events - just to know James is around is a great thought, isn't it?

We have Gründonnerstag (Holy Thursday), Karfreitag (Good Friday), Ostersamstag (Easter Saturday?), Ostersonntag (Easter Sunday), Ostermontag (Easter Monday). Feiertage (public holiday, days off) are Friday and Monday (I don't have to work at Saturdays or Sundays).
We have to work on Thursday. Do you have that day off too?
I don't know how you did count the days... they are two workdays off and four days in a row not having to work... long weekend :-D

We have Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Day and the Bank Holiday Monday. Like you the Fri and the Mon are Bank Holidays - but most places still seem to open. In theory everything should be shut on Easter Day - but gradually a few places are opening over the last couple of years. So the 4 days - is like you - a long weekend. I just made it sound longer, didn't I?

Here in the US it's jelly beans and chocolate bunnies and whatever other family traditional foods. In my family it's cheese babka, cruschiki, ham, and PA Dutch potato salad. Yuuuuuuuuuuum!

I think I will stick with the hot cross buns, easter ggs and simnel cake ... but it is great to read about other traditions. Have fun with your scattered family!
