World Giraffe Day

I know, I never popped back to catch up, but the tiredness has been a real problem this week.

However yesterday was my last day at work for a fortnight, although today and over the weekend I am busy meeting friends.  But I will try to be more organised (if you could see how dusty the house is you would know you aren't the only ones I am ignoring!)

Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi, and to tell people of what today is ... other than The Longest Day.  My favourite animal is a giraffe, and today is World Giraffe Day, so I have copied and pasted this off their news page for today, so you can see a bit of (yet another) project to save the stunning animals of this world ...

World Giraffe Day – 21 June 2019 – is dedicated to Twiga Tracker, the largest giraffe GPS satellite tracking programme ever in Africa (‘twiga’ is Swahili for giraffe).

Giraffe were listed as Vulnerable to extinction on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2016. Giraffe numbers in Africa have plummeted by a staggering 30% over the last 30 years.

We estimate today that there are only approximately 111,000 giraffe remaining in all of Africa.

To save giraffe in Africa, we need to gain a better understanding of where giraffe live, where they move and how they use their habitat. Twiga Tracker aims to track a minimum of 250 giraffe across their range with innovative GPS satellite solar units.

This is an ambitious goal – both logistically and financially. At a cost of USD2,500 per unit, deployment in remote areas of Africa will cost an estimated USD4,000-5,000 per unit – a total of more than USD1,000,000.

Twiga Tracker is a collaboration between some of the biggest names in field conservation and science: GCF has partnered with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and San Diego Zoo Global.

10 Icons

I know, I have been MIA (again), for those who read this and not just look at the icons! I have been working some extra shifts, which is good for the bank balance, but not great for my CFS. However I must be positive and say that 6 years ago I could hardly walk across a room without wobbling, so the fact that I have just worked 4 - 5 days a week for the last 3 weeks, is great ... However it means that I tend to just slob around, and not even turn on the pc in an evening. And even my weekends have ended up busy ... but one day (soon, I hope) I will post a proper update (on LJ), and will try and finish the Snowflake Challenge that I still have a couple of days to do.

Anyway, until then, at least I have icons to share. I started off making them from the last episode of BtVS, but then ended up doing 3 different ones, as I read the challenge ... anyway, I hope that you enjoy them. They are made for Round 7 of [community profile] icons10in20

Hi

I know .... where have I been?  Ummmm, nowhere!  Just days have shot past me.  I have done a few extra shifts at work (on reception in another part of the hospital) which was a great challenge, and one I enjoyed doing (so much so I have booked a couple more).  I have managed to get to the gym a couple of times a week, as well, so haven't been lazy at all.

I will admit evenings have drifted a bit (thus lack of LJing), however I have made an effort to do something so have done jigsaws ... in fact 2 since Christmas.

The first one was a pressie from Christine ... in memory of all the sight-seeing we did over the year.  The second one was borried from a work friend, as her fiance bought her one for Christmas (she had never done one since a kid), but loved it, and so we actually did a swap!  So, 2 x 1,000 pieces (well, there was one piece missing on Ceri's puzzle, which she had told me) ... and I have just found anouther to start tonight.

So, hope you are all well, will try to catch up later

Sneaks Back In

debris4spike: (Sorry ... James)
I owe replies, have had a couple of day trips, still owe you some Flanders pictures and Jiffy's birthday photos.  I have missed birthdays, and events.   But, with every day that passes I feel worse about my absence ... and so embarrasment swalows me, and I don't click my LJ icon.

So, have decided that I will be back tomorrow ... and will not try to catch up, but will carry on from now.

So, sorry everone (again), but I will be a better girl, I promise.

Just to let you know Mum wasn't very well over the weekend, and I persuaded her to go to A&E ... and they kept her in.

I had been saying she didn't drink enough for ages and she was seriously dehydrated, and had a bowel problem that they are doing a colonoscopy on this morning.

They also need to (at long last) sort out her medication ... her doctor is the laziest woman around!

So, I am Daddy & Jiffy sitting ... and have little internet (or time)

Trying to get their Christmas cards/letters/shopping sorted ... then next week I start mine!  So like my icon I feel I am doing a lot of juggling!

Hope you are all behaving yourselves!
Miss you all
