debris4spike: (Grin!)
I am reading the bible chronologically in the New Living Translation.  Part of yesterdays reading ...

Proverbs 16:
31 Gray hair is a crown of glory;
it is gained by living a godly life.

Well that explains my hair style and colour!!

Psalm 37:39-40 (The Message)

The spacious, free life is from God,
            it’s also protected and safe.
God-strengthened, we’re delivered from evil—
when we run to him, he saves us.

Just a great thought for me to remember today.
debris4spike: (Closer to God)
Back 18 months ago I started posting a verse that had lept out at me while I was reading the Bible in the morning.  As I said then, no insults meant, just for my own personal focus and reminder.  Over the last months life has been weird, and LJ got missed more than read, so although I read the Bible, I didn't post much.

However a couple of verses I read this morning I loved.  I read from The Message in a morning, which is a paraphrased Bible written in modern English.

One of the readings i had today was Psalm 36, and here is one of the sections -

v 5-6
God’s love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness
nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks
.

As I was reading this morning (I am now in Mark ... I told you my reading pattern is set out oddly in this scheme), I came across this sentence in the passage where Jesus is feeding the 5,000 -

Mark 6 v 39 ... Jesus got them all to sit down in groups of fifty or a hundred—they looked like a patchwork quilt of wildflowers spread out on the green grass!

I just thought it was so descriptive, and a reminder that God gave us so much beauty in nature.

Disclaimer, for my new f-list ...

I do read the Bible every day, and every so often will post a random thought. Some are just to help me remember what I actually read this morning. They are not meant to upset or offend anyone ... Please feel free to ignore.

Like the last time I posted (about my name), this is another vague entry!

When I was reading this morning there were a load of lists of names - family lineages.  I will admit that after years of reading the Bible I tend to skim through the genealogies in most cases.

However it occured to me that many people like going back into family history ... which is actually a list of genealogies!  Last year I was fascinated to find out, via Tim (who enjoys this hobby), that Mum's family (on her mother's side, goes back to Jasper Tudor, and beyond.

So, maybe I am a hypocrite to not read the heritage of the Jewish families of the Old Testament.

I realised that I never posted this thought when I had it a couple of weeks back!

My name comes from the Bible ... that's why Mum & Dad chose it.  Most people know that she was the only female judge in the book of Judges.

However in Genesis 35, there is another Deborah mentioned.  She was Rachel's nurse and it was just mentioned that she had died.  The amazing thing is that it talks about where she was buried ... under an oak tree.  As I read it I realised that I really love oak trees, in fact they are my favourites.

No real point to the thought, just an amazing coincidence.

Yesterday reading Genesis 31, I was reminded of a word I grew up knowing ... MIZPAH ... It is used a lot by the Brethren, but when you read the verse you know why.

Gen 31 v 49 :"The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another"

A truly lovely wish.

I have been a bit out of sequence recently as the exhaustion has hit, but am back on track again today.

So, I return to Genesis, and Jacob marrying the love of his life and her sister.  The sister Leah has children, and a couple of the meanings jumped out at me in the first 4 children.  Not just were they named to help Leah at the time, but their names continued to mean something when these babies grew up and became heads of their tribes.

LEVI -  His name means attachment, connection.  Leah felt thet Jacob would feel connected to her again at this time.  Levi became the head of the priests ... they are the ones who helped the Jews connect, stay attached to God.

JUDAH - His name means praise.  She praised God that she had children from her marriage.  The tribe of judah is also the tribe that Jesus was born into ... the true reason to praise God.

I know I haven't posted daily, but have read the Bible.  As I was ill for a few days I only read a few verses then, as my brain goes fuzzy.  So not as far on as I had expected.

Anyway -

The start of Genesis 21 is a lovely reminder for me ...
"God did ... what He promised, ... at the very time God had set".

So often I wonder why things happen (or don't), but I have to remember that God sees the whole picture, not just the day I am actually thinking about.

I am fighting a really nasty cold that is trying to head to a chest infection, but fluids, rest, paracetamol and oranges have joined the fight ... I just hope we win!

I managed to get Jiffy walked this morning in the dry, and now as it's raining I am going to try to get some LJ caught up, and some icons made.  I am only doing one set of 20in20 this month, but hope to get back to the 2 sets of 100's I am doing as well.

My friend Toni came over yesterday - it was great to see her.  We had both had tough years last year, which meant we didn't get to see each other much.  She has moved house so is now nearer, so we hope this year to keep in touch more.

I went to the solicitors yeaterday to swear over Mum's will.  So that will be done in about a month, we hope.  It should be at about the  same time that Tim and I finally get the paperwork through the Court of Protection for Dad ... until then we can't sell the house, but at least we know things are moving along.  As everything is frozen for the money etc, Tim has taken out a loan to pay Dad's Home fees.

He is certainly more settled.  He has been to Church there, and when I go we usually go for a walk.  Jiffy goes in once a week, so he likes that.  As does Jiffy, who loves all the attention from everyone.

Starting next week I am going to be increasing my hours slightly ... I am doing, via The Bank, a short term contract as a Physiologist.  So as well as being a good challenge, it is a bit more pay an hour.  Still all in the same dept, and they requested me, so it really should work out well.

My Daily Bible Reading continues ... but haven't posted any thoughts I know.  Today I was reading of Abraham and Sarah laughing when they were told that they would have a child (she was in her 80's) ... but the reminder shows that nothing is impossible, with God.  A good reminder for the day.

I won't skim your LJ's as I want to get caught up, before I get side-tracked again.  Hope you are all well

Group *hugs*

Well I Made It!!

debris4spike: (Hardest thing - live in the world)
As my Daily Bible Reading reminded me today - "God, you have put my life back together" (Psalm 4).  As I type this I realise that I am having a "normal" day.  In fact my whole week has been pretty easy.

Today I have taken Jiffy for a walk, done some shopping, eaten dinner, done some sorting, and now I have pc time.  Just one year ago today I was nursing a very sick Mum ... she had C Diff, a urine infection and flu.  However as there was an NHS crisis, and I am a nurse, she stayed home ... until 3 days later when the doctor realised she was getting rapidly worse.

Almost 4 weeks of hospital and she came home, and it was then I realised how week he was.  It was a long year, as I look back on it ... but at the time, day by day, it was just something I needed and wanted to do.

Over this last year I have not been around much, but when I have the love and support from many of you has been amazing.  However, for those  who were concerned, let me assure you that if I had to re-do this year I would.  Yes, it was frustrating, tiring, lonely, but I am glad I did it.

I still feel really in limbo about Mum, but know that I will come to terms with things in my own time.

Dad seems to be slowly settling into his new home ... when I went in yesterday he was telling me about some discussion that he and a couple of the other men had over lunch.  It didn't make much sense to me, but he seemed happy, so that is the main thing.  Jiffy is more settled.  He has a couple of favourite walks, and enjoys deciding which one to go on, and he certainly knows where his treats are stored!

I have managed to sort out my bedroom this week, as I had to amalgamate 2 sets of clothes, 2 sets of jewellery, etc.  So at least that seems "me" now.  I know that soon we will have to sell Mum & Dad's, but I am having a couple of weeks off of even thinking about that.

So, now I am in 2016, and like last year I don't know what it will hold.  However I do know that the support of friends, and with God's strength I will get through it.

Happy New Year to you all.
debris4spike: (Sunshine after rain)
There is a verse in the Bible that assures us that there is nothing new under the sun - my reading today really shows that to be true.

I was reading of Noah and the flood.  The account said that it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, but that the waters were on the land for 150 days.

As this year ends and we watch the news in Britain and America (and other areas) we see the devestation caused by the rain, but not just the days of rain but the time to dry and clear up the mess.  My heart goes out to them.

Daily Bible Reading

debris4spike: (B7 - Going to live forever)
Well day 2 of my plan to pick a verse in my reading and I fail!

However, I was reading Genesis 3 - 5 this morning.  One of the chats we all often have is what generation would we like to have been born in?

Well todays reading listed the men of old ....Methuselah 969, Adam 930, Kenan 910, etc.

That would mean that Kenan was born in 1105 if he died today.  I do wonder what changes they saw in their lives ... and what they achieved.  I worry that Dad is old, yet he is only 1/10 of his age.  Hard to comprehend.

However I suppose they must have been healthier as it finished with the thought that Noah was 500 before the flood.

I don't expect those centuries, so maybe it's a reminder that I need to make best use of the days I do have.
debris4spike: (Christmas - reason for the season)
Every day (well, I suppose I will admit to occasionally missing), I start my day with a Bible reading.  Over the years I have read hrough the Bible, in a traditional translation, a modern one, in chronological order, etc.  I have re-started my reading again.  This time I am using a modern paraphrased version called The Message.  When you know the Bible, have grown up knowing it, it is good to read varying versions, and in varying orders.

The book I am using has 2 readings per day, and jumps around the Bible.

Anyway, one of the reasons I read is to learn something more of God and my faith, and to give me a "thought for the day".

So foten I skim through a page or two to get out the door in time.  So in the future I am going to try to pick a key verse/thought and post it here.  Please feel free to ignore, as it is mostly for my own benefit.

So, today's reading was Genesis 1 & 2, and Psalm 1.  The verses that I chose are from Genesis:-

"God looked over everything and it was good, so very good ... Heaven and Earth were finished, down to the last detail!"

(Pity us humans muck that up!)
