Day Out In History
Saturday, March 1st, 2025 12:26 pmAs I said, on Thursday Christine and I had a great trip out to Dyrham Park ... a really lovely place. There is so much to see, I think we could have gone back the following day and still there would be plenty to keep us focussed.
Anyway - here are some tasters -

St Peter's Church -

Tomb of George Wynter 1581, and his wife, Anne

Sir Morys Russel (1401) and Isobel, his Lady (1415)

A family of 3 siblings killed in WWII

Tea was a huge part of the trading ... thus the icon!

The dairy - I do love the tiles

In the kitchens

The Leather room ... and close-up of the wallpaper (300 years old)

William Blathwayt - the man who rebuilt the house.

Bed, built for a royal visit, that never happened!

A reminder that the slave trade was part of the trading system that went on at that time.

A Paintinng added to make the house look a lot bigger than it is!

Lead and bronze statye of Mercury, 1703

Chinese teapot, 1700
Yes, well worth (another) visit.

I do understand why they keep everything so dark nowadays, but it gives the impression that the rooms were so dark and dismal. I'm sure they weren't originally!
