A Lovely Day out

Yesterday Claire & I went to Saltram House ... and had a lovely day. If any of you have seen the film Sense and Sensibility you will have seen some of the house, as it was used as a location.







I always love a nice fireplace, and this one is truly a winner ... so couldn't resist being photographed in front of it.

Those carpets are very bright!

The carpet is 250 years old, and they have had 2 X 2/3rds re-woven by Axminster ... so you can see the original, but also walk on the carpet itself. (It's only just been done, and we did wonder how much that would have cost!)

The pattern matches the ceiling, which is hard to capture in photos

I love the ducks ... there is a wheel-wash near the stables, now turned into a pond

Lovely! Although I think I prefer the simplicity of the outside to some of the rather fussy rooms indoor.

A couple of the rooms were designed by Robert Adams. We were surprised that there were no flower beds as you looked out of the windows.
