As ever I still haven't managed to work out how to make moving icons. The one I am using here was a gift last year ... so if anyone else wants to make me an animated icon that would be amazing ...

Thanks, anyway - I love making static icons, but can't do the gif ones! Oh, well, maybe that's plane to look into for this year!

I'm afraid I don't have any animated icons for you, but most graphics programs, including free ones, do know how to create them. They tend to ask you to make each frame into a different layer, and then arrange the layers for how you want it animated, and then there's some scripted magic and you have a .gif. (If that was unhelpfully vague, I could try dragging up a tutorial for your favored graphics program?)

I can do flickering icons, but even with either of my icon programmes I just can't work out how to "snip" a piece of action and icon it (such as the icon I am using) ... oh, well, maybe that's plane to look into for this year!

For that, if you've got a source, I believe many people use a program like VLC to cut out the piece of action they want, find their frames, then save each of those frames individually so they can be imported, cropped, and iconified. It's an extremely versatile program for payback, but it also contains tools that let someone do a certain amount of prep work for eventual vidding or icon creating.
