I worked this morning and in the end it was quite a nice clinic.

As I walked back I decided what I wanted to bake this afternoon (seeing as Tim "stole" my extra cake when I saw them this weekend).  So as it's the 14th Feb I thought I would make Courting Cake.  Now I can almost see the bakers out there looking at their recipe books.  You won't find it! And the stor behind the name ....

When Mum & Dad met (and for over a year after they married) they lived over 100 miles apart.  Within a few weeks of visiting each other Mum's parents knew there was "something going on".  As Mum worked most Saturday mornings it was Dad who did the trip ... Grandma always made cakes, and one of her recipes became a firm favourite with Dad ... and Grandma used to tease Dad that he visited just for the cake ... and his favourite became re-named int he family to "Courting Cake", and that is what we all know it as.  (His mother was a good baker, but she only ever made chocolate sponge, so he loved the varieties).

So as I type this the cake is cooling on the tray.  I had to go and buy some jam for the recipe, but as I needed milk as well it was nice to have a short stroll in the sunshine, despite the cold wind.

Hope you are having a good Tuesday ... and, as ever ...

14 – Organ Donor Day: Are you signed up/registered to be an organ donor? Do you regularly or occasionally donate blood?
I have attempted to give blood on 4 seperate occaisions and each time have been refused ... so gave up and didn't bother trying again. dad was a regular donor. Mum never could as she has hepatitis in her late teens.

Right, let's get on

Ah - I think my mum made something very similar but we knew them as jam slices :)
