This painting is of Wellington ... WRONG!!!! ... it was of Napoleon Bonaparte and when he lost the battle of Waterloo the painting ended up in Exeter ... without a head. Yes, there is a square cut in the canvas. So they added a piece and painted Lord Wellington, changed his medals ... but he is not riding Copenhagen (his horse), but this is Marengo, Napolean's horse

The ceremonial sword is still the original, although the scabbard was updated. It is still presented to the Queen on each visit.

One of 6 portraits in the main hall - this is of Princess Henrietta, daughter of King Charles I who was born in the city, and lived locally for a few years. After the restoration her brother Charles II presented this portrait.
