Both Mum & Dad had neat writing ... sadly that is one thing I wished I had inherited.

They also were both brilliant at art - Dad's drawing was almost photographic, whereas I now have a lot of Mum's paintings around my house ... I so wish that I had inherited their artistic skills.

Saaaame. I really wish I had fully learned ~proper~ handwriting in school. We started, but then the curriculum changed and teachers were told to forget about handwriting because it was more important that we learned to type. So I can write in cursive and a few years ago started using it for everything and it's improved a bit, but a lot of my letters are just wonky.

Oh I hadn't thought about that - I started to learn cursive at age 9 at one school, then changed schools, only to find that they had learnt that the previous year ... so, that must be it ... I made it up as I went along.

Mum and Dad would have done pages of lettering

(I still have to learn how to type rapidly ... I am making that up, as well)

What lovely memories and keepsakes of your parents to have! ♥ I also hear you on wishing to share such skills. My father is (was, he no longer does it) terrific at calligraphy, and did marvellous inked drawings in his youth. I've always wanted to learn that as well, but I'm left-handed and this kind of calligraphy isn't possible to do with the left hand. But I have a wonderful work by him he gave us to our engangement, a love poem he made for us, which is one of my most precious possessions.

Oh how beautiful to have the poem as a special gift/keepsake. Things like that are truly worth more than money, aren't they?

Ahhh, that must be so frustrating! Were they just naturally good, or did they have to learn it from scratch like mere mortals?

I would imagine they both had writing lessons as they were at school in the 1920 - 1930's

However their art was natural ... Dad had not great schooling, only learning basics, and Mum had good schooling but in the A stream so art was considered a waste of time in favour of Latin!! Mum did lessons in later life that gave her more courage with her painting
