15 Icons

I have made 15 icons for Round 5 of somein30 ... the theme was Atmospheric, and I chose the basic mode. I decided to do a set of 5 from each of my 3 favourite TV pairings ....

1 - Buffy & Spike, BtVS
2 - Janeway & Chakotay - Star Trek Voyager
3 - Carter & O'Neill - Stargate SG1

Great set! I especially like the strong contrast and dramatic shadows in 2, 7 and 14. The decorative texture use in 3 is lovely as well.

Great job! And just perfect for me; I don't have a Voyager icon yet and we're currently re-watching the series, as we've treaded ourselves with the full box set for Christmas.
Edit to add: I can't use it, though, as the format isn't supported by Dreamwidth, and I don't have any software at the moment to convert it. I was surprised to see the format, too, but thought I'd missed some new development as it happens so often. *g*

Thank you .... I really need to re-watch as I am really into the fanfic at the time. If you want others do to my icon journal as there are loads of different voyager ones over there ... like the one I am using

But you suprised me as I upload icons on DW as well ... in fact if you go onto my journal there you will see I exported the post there ... if not I will look into it, as I only recently uploaded my new Jiffy icon over there with no problems

Actually replying to your LJ entry was a mistake on my part; I meant the DW one as I'm usually prefer DW to comment if it's available. ;o) I'm still getting notifications from both for you at the moment, though.

I just tried it again in case I made some mistake, but I'm getting the same error message: Files of type WEBP aren't supported. You can only upload GIF, PNG or JPG files. Most image/photo programs can do this conversion for you. The icon images you're using yourself seem all to be jpg (I checked just four or five). I'm unfamiliar with the format webp so I have no idea about properties and issues, but it migth be possible to embed images of that format in a regular post - or it must be possible, as your icon posts show - but still not possible to upload them as an icon. I'd converted it myself if I could, but I don't have any sophisticated image software in use right now, so I'm just giving it a pass. I just thought I'd let you know.
Edit: I just checked, LJ doesn't support the format either.

So sorry that it's a problem .... I have just saved your icon you are using and it saves as a .jpg .... and then uploaded it, and it worked, so can't help as to what is going wrong ... sorry (don't worry, I didn't save the icon, just tried to see if there was a problem)

With "your icon", do you mean the one I'm using? That's indeed a jpg, like most of the icons I'm using (I have a lot more on DW), plus some png not made by me, and probably a gif. I've never made icons for icon communities but regulary for fests and exchanges for the participants to use, and the requriements have always been "jpg, png and gif only", as DW and LJ don't allow for uploading anything else to be used as icon.
But the icons you made - or rather, those I checked; about four or five of those in this post, and the mirrored post on DW, but also the Discovery icons in the DW or LJ post (I don't remember which one, sorry) are all in webp format, except one of the Discovery ones I checked; that's a jpg.

If the icons you made were originally jpg, perhaps they got converted when uploading to your image hoster? I'm using imgur for my regular photos, and they stay in the format uploaded - as it should be, but TBH I don't trust any website or software further than I can throw it these days. ;op
Have you tried downloading one of the icons in this post here, and then uploading as an icon into your LJ or DW? Feel free to use any of mine for testing, I don't mind!

The icon in question is not that important to me - I don't know if I'll post anything about Voyager in the foreseeable future, as I don't talk that much about what I'm seeing; but as I still have slots free on DW I thought it's nice to have. But by now I'm really curious what happened here! :o)

I really like how the lighting and contrast came out in 2 and 14.7 also looks great!

Amazing set <3 I really love the strong contrast on 2 and 4. 6 and 9 has great texture work and 8 is wonderful crop and coloring. I love the white color on 10 and the contrast! :) 13 is wonderful crop!
