Challenge #8

In your own space, create a wishlist. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

  • I can't make moving icons (like the default one here) so I would love some of my favourite OTPs
  • I always want more fics for my favourite fandoms and pairings ... but luckily AO3 is pretty good at keeping me busy reading.

Well I am sure this is the list I made last year, but overally I am pretty content ... fandom is good overall, isn't it?

I have no idea how to make moving icons either, I was so excited when someone made me some NCIS ones during the NCIS advent holiday challenge. I hope someone can fulfil your wish :)

Fandom is a wonderful place isn't it, there are times I wish I could just move in, lol. I don't think we share any fandoms (although I did love watching Blakes 7, it was such a wonderful show. I will take a look though.

I hope the wishlist fairy grants some of your wishes :)

Depending on how comfortable you feel with image manipulation, putting together the moving icons is a matter of making each of the individual pictures and then slinging them together into an animation tool that puts them all together into a .gif or something similar. I think that paint.net or other free tools can do it, so long as you set it up the way they want to with layers.

If it's about getting the pictures and/or cutting them down to size, that's a different sort of tutorial, I think, but I'm pretty sure there are ways to ask VLC or other video programs nicely to put out a specific set of frames.

And if none of that made sense, I'm so sorry not to have been helpful!

I think, perhaps presumptuously, that the principle is the same for both, there's just an awful lot more pictures to line up correctly, and maybe a really harsh compression on the end to get it in the file size requirements. It's a short clip in terms of time, and at 24 frames or better per second, that can be a lot of pictures to have to put in.

There's also the Glimpse project that's forking GIMP, over the name choice, admittedly, but that might also be a little slower to adopt the "improvements" and give you an interface you are more comfortable with. They just started, but they do have at least one release.
