Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

I had to have my car serviced this morning.  Normally I would leave the car and get the bus into the city and potter ... however with Lockdown that wasn't going to work!  So I dropped the car off, took a seat and waited ... 4 hours!

Still, it gave me a chance to read "Battle Ground", which is the latest Dresdon Files book.  I had read "Peace Talks" really quickly, but although I had started BG I hadn't been able to sit and read ... so today was the classic excuse.

Anyway I had water, a comfy seat, and a book ... a nice Monday morning (although Mum wouldn't have approved, as Monday is washing day!!)

Anyway there were a couple of others sitting in the waiting area ... I got about half way through the book when I hit the shock (no spoiler though), and it took me all my strength not to yell "No" out loud. 

I remember when I read, and later heard, "Changes" for the first time ... I did scream out loud then, as I was by myself.  I Am looking forward to hearing how James reads it, at some point.  "Changes" is actually one of my favourite of the series, but "Battle Ground"  is not going to be on that list.

Anyway, I have a couple more chapters to read, so I am going to make myself a cuppa and finish the book.

Oh wow - 4 hours! That's annoying!

And we had to bring in our own water - no coffee!!

I think there were a few lesser shocks near the end, as well

That sucks about the waiting.

Neither Peace Talks nor Battle Ground are on my Harry Dresden favourites list either. Sadly, I also think the narration isn't JM's best.

I haven't heard the books yet, but Peace Talks was better than Battle Ground for me

Jim Butcher loves writing fights. Battle Ground is pretty much nothing but fights. Brutal and a bit wearing. And that shock. Not nice.

So true - much of the story is a battle ... so much so I do think a lot of the final section felt slightly rushed.

But he has certainly left a lot of story lines to sort out.

I accidentally/on purpose read the plot synopsis of Battle Ground. I'm not looking forward to it when it arrives.

I was a good girl and missed all the spoilers ... but at the end there are certainly a lot of assorted storylines available

Wow 4 hours in time of Covid. No fun. Did you read a paper book? Otherwise it would have been a question of having enough battery when having to wait this long (I could see that happen to me).

My Dresden's are all proper books ... and yes, I do read them, as well as books that were Mum's or family's

However my Kindle is what usually travels with me, and has about 8 hours battery ... so not too bad eoverall.

I actually had both the book, and my Kindle with me.
