Snowflake Challenge #9

In your own space, promote at least one canon that you adore (old, new, forever fandom).

Which one shall I talk about? I am a Spike/Buffy (Spuffy ... BtVS) fan, a Janeway/Chakotay (Voyager) fan, a Jack/Sam (SG1) fan, a Hawkeye/Margaret (M*A*S*H TV) fan... I could talk about any of them loads and loads!

I suppose I have talked a lot about my Spuffy love, so I will go Star Trek, instead


I will admit that when Voyager was announced I din't want to watch it, because I go against modern living, and didn't want to see a female boss.  However my friends watched episode 1 and then had to work on week 2 so asked me to record it for them.  So I had to watch it as there was nothing else on and I obviously couldn't watch anything on video.  And  was intrigued by Chakotay, well he is pretty cute!  So I was hooked.

A female, sent out to capture a male, and ending up having to ask him to help her.  She was so serious, so formal, so dedicated to her plans.  Whereas he was adapatable, although he committed himself to be a great second.  It was obvious that they liked and respected each other, most of the time.  Occasionally they saw things from different points of view, but worked out their differences.  Yes they balanced out each other brilliantly.

Sadly she said right from the start that as Captain she couldn't have a relationship ... if it went wrong they were both stuck on the same ship, or it could be considered that she was pushing for the relationship.  However you see the way they look at each other, the way he helps her through major problems, the way she is upset when he is injured.  He admits to having feelings for her a couple of times, but she doesn't/can't

I do love how they are together, and wish that they had been able to find a way to be together ... but there again, that's what fan-fiction is for!

I loved Janeway/Chakotay! (I remember recording the shows on VHS tapes, too!) I enjoyed this trip down memory lane, so thanks for sharing.

It was fun remembering how it all started - VHS brought a lot of fun, over the years!

I Was SO INTO that ship during the original run. My tastes have changed since then, but it's more like I still ship them, just a little differently.

I suppose that because I now read a lot of the fan-fic it keeps the love going. I do need to schedule a proper re-watch at some point

Yes, Yes, Yes to Janeway/Chakotay! They had such great chemistry, and I always kind of head-canoned that once they got back home they found a way to be together. Funny thing I stopped watching Voyager before the end, probably somewhere around the fifth or sixth season, but I always assumed they ended the series with them together, or at least left it open ended. So, imagine my surprise when years later I read on the internet somewhere that Chakotay and Seven had ended up together, I was just like that can't be right.

The explanation used was that Chakotay felt lonely ... 7 had used a hologram of him to learn about humanity as she thought he was #1 ... so things progressed that way

However J/C fan-fics have many ways of splitting them up, so my heart is happy again!!

Ugh, YES to this post. I remember being all ??? FOR REAL when the show decided to go in a Seven/Chakotay direction even after that wonderful ep where J/C got stranded and he built her a bathtub. Just the regret on her face when she was looking at it before leaving was so heartbreaking AND YET. Sigh.

One of the great thing about fan-fic is you can have ones that will have Chakotay & 7 splitting up immediately! I can see some of the logic, but think that he would not have given into temptation, however tight that suit 7 wore was!!!

Oh wow. My first fandom. I loved this show and used to write stories about the characters in my head all the time, especially Janeway and Chakotay. Then we got the internet and I learned that people actually wrote such stories down and shared them. What a revelation. I was so happy to realise there were other people in the world who shared my passion because none of my friends or family did. I was a JetCer and even list mum of several groups. I even had people from the US record eps and send them to me in Australia so I could be as up to date at the rest of the folk in the groups. Like others I was appalled by the Chakotay Seven thing which to my way of thinking came totally out of left field for Chakotay. However I do believe that was 'fixed' in the follow up novels that I haven't managed to get a hold of to read as yet. Maybe one day, although I doubt it will be as satisfying as the way I fixed it in my own head canon. I have done a few rewatches over the years but I've only watched the ending once. Thank you so much for posting this and I'm so glad I got a chance to read it. Cheers
