I am trying to keep more organised this year - so here are some icons I made for 2 lots of [livejournal.com profile] slayerstillness ... and an even bigger shock to see a couple of awards!

No surprise at all - congratulations! The Willow one is my favorite of the two prize winners; I like the "pointilist" quality of the background contrasted against the sharp image of Willow. I used to wonder how people achieved such things but I've started playing with Pixelmater on free trial, (a sort of junior version of Photoshop that even impresses my sweetie), and realize it's a matter of "layers". I don't know how to actually do layers yet - but someday!

You already know I love the Buffy in EP one, but I also LOVE #3 because it has several of my favorite things:
Buffy
A rarely-used image from the show
tight on the face and emphasis on the expression
strong contrasts of light and shadow
slightly assymmetrical, well-balanced composition
monochromatic (I love mono icon imagery and often make them but tend not to share because I rarely see them so I assume other people prefer color)
use of a frame (and in this case an unusual one that overlaps the image)
and, I like Sarah's profile (I don't know why, I just do)

Really? *hugs*

And yes you've mentioned Gimp to me before; I'm looking forward to mastering Pixelmater and doing layers of my own.

That #3 frame was simple in that I blocked out a section and reversed the monochrome ... yes, I was pleased with the result as well.

And as with your character or shot choices, I see a lot of subtle effects in your icons that I don't often see otherwise.

BTW - if the Top 5 was multifandom I'd be rec'ing your Servalan and Capt Janeway icons. (I was admiring them yesterday.)

and to remind those who look at them of the vast range of stories that are portrayed.

YESSSSSSSS! That has been so much on my mind this year. A lot of my conversations with [livejournal.com profile] clockwork_hart1 and the stories she wrote this past year have had to do with that point. And the Buffyverse Top 5 this time round has emphasized that - there's so much richness to this 'verse but it's easy, I think (I'm as guilty of this as anyone, I know) to overfocus on one character, 'ship or "clique".
