How Does Buffy Die?

I have just answered that question on joans_journal ... and my thoughts are ...

"I love some of the fics where they are offered an eternal choice - so they fight together for many years - then given peace together!

But yes, Buffy dying will be with Spike at her side - either he dusts and she hesitates; or she dies and he meets the next sunrise."

Sorry for all those non-Spuffy fans, but they are together in my mind (no, I haven't read a single comic); their story takes off from "Chosen", with a bit of AtS season 5 ... and they find each other, and move on, together!

I still haven't had time to get back to my re-watch, but my overall memory of their journey is one of steps ... hard steps.  Those mean that they have a real relationship ... and that they should be together, whatever life throws at them.


So, what are your thoughts?

In my rare fics where I follow their relationship that far (cause I like to think they live a nice long time, but don't usually feel obligated to watch them to it. lol) they usually go out together - often fighting. In at least one of my early fics, I suggest that the claiming relationship (frequent small exchanges of blood) has an effect on Buffy that leads to her living a longer time than expected, but I just hint at that, it's not part of the story. So, I guess that's how I want to imagine them - living a long time and going out together.
Only the short "sequel" to "Hearts Breaking Even" has Buffy definitely living after Spike has dusted. At least that's the only one I remember like that. And I have one drabble where Spike appears to be thinking about dusting at Buffy's grave (Angel thinks he's going to anyway) and one where he tells Dawn he isn't going to because he promised her he wouldn't. So, I seem to be ambiguous about that. LOL

Yes, I think a lot have used a claiming to keep Buffy from aging ... the other plot twist I have seen is that when Willow brought her back, she is "different".

I think that Spike would dust himself if the story is some time in the future ... but Buffy would shut herself down emotionally.

Oh - a fic I haven't read! I must read it all.

Yes, I have read a couple of other fics where she is aged, and hospitals think Spike is her grandson.

But, yes, Spike will be there till the end.

I try to avoid character death fics (Buffy dying, Spike dusting except it's a twist where they'll come back).

Mmmmh what I like the most I think is Buffy having a longer life span. May it be because of the claiming or because of her being the Slayer.

Oh yes - I try to avoid any fics that have this as a plot ... in my heart they live together "forever"!!

I think that a claim, or Willow's spell will help to achieve this.

Don't know - I never read them, to me Buffy is only canon in the TV series!
