debris4spike: (Happy Birthday)

Do you remember me going to a 70th wedding Anniversary a few years ago Jan 2009 to be exact?   Well Auntie Blanche (Mum's first cousin died in 2010) but last Saturday we drove back to Barnstaple again to celebrate Uncle Charles 100th birthday ... the even better thing is that he still has all his marbles, in that he lives alone. In fact he learnt a (very weird) poem to recite on the day ... better than I have ever managed to do.)

Sadly he had a fall coming home from Church last week (he had actually taken the service) so had damaged his hands, and had a black eye.

It was great to be there, see other cousins ... and hear the worst choir ever. Their music choice was weird (I only knew half of it, and my 3rd cousin who I was sitting with who is in a choir didn't even know all of them!) ... their outfits were nice, but the truly creepy thing was they all had matching necklaces on!

Still the meal was nice, the roads weren't too busy and we enjoyed the day.

Bless his heart. He really did some damage to himself in the fall. How the world has changed in his life time. It must be amazing to talk to him about his life.

In 1976, my grandmother was in a nursing home. We spent a great deal of time with her and all of her friends who lived there. There was one man who turned 100 yrs old and was feisty and knew everything that went on around him. He was a joy to talk to and listen to him. I feel bad that so many younger kids do not get to really know their older relatives as we did growing up.

Wow that's quite some fall he took! Glad he still managed to enjoy the celebrations.

I wish you'd videoed the choir!

That's wonderful! If he were American, he'd get a birthday call from the Prez. Do British citizens get calls from the Queen when they turn 100?

Reminds me of my late friend Nurmi, who passed away at 98. She was a lifelong Democrat, and was looking forward to scolding George Bush, but she didn't make it to 100.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,UNCLE CHARLES!!!

Wow..100 years. How amazing. He´s truly blessed!

You seem to have very good genes going round in your family! Looking good for you! ;)

That choir - really creepy. Are you sure they weren´t a secret cult or something? And if you didn´t know some songs, maybe they only exist to deliver hidden subtexts into people´s heads? LOL I don´t know..but - WEIRD!!

Ouch - what a nasty tumble - but how wonderful that he can still minister.

I like the gardening images on his cake.

And, it sounds awful to say, but I'm glad you've met the worst choir ever - I had thought that accolade might belong to the one belonging to our sister URC here on the island; they are (whispers) really not very good at all...

Living to 100 and being of sound mind at the same time is quite an achievement. My father-in-law is only one year and a few months behind you Uncle Charles.
